If you're a white person who gets upset that black people use the N word you are basically the most ignorant motherfucker on the Earth. I could go into detail but it suffices to say that you probably are just itching to use that word to demean them, pretending that is somehow equivalent to them using it amongst themselves for entirely different purposes, often as an expression of solidarity and brotherhood within their still-largely-segregated community.[Edited on January 11, 2011 at 5:15 PM. That's kind of OK but in mixed company it might be prudent to refrain or perhaps ask how they feel on the issue before reciting those lyrics.

In the context of the book Huck Finn, it provides a great example of classic American literature to teach students. If a class was reading the book, they would be confronted with the immediacy of the racial divide of the time. When you teach teenagers about slavery and the Civil War, they often don't have any connection or understanding, but because of the visceral nature of how "nigger" creates a polarizing atmosphere, censoring this book completely eliminates the innate value of that conversation. As for your comments Str8Foolish, it is a little presumptuous to know what people think and why they think it. Seriously, the most ignorant motherfucker on Earth? Hyperbole much?Nigger/nigga is a word like ese or holmes for hispanics in modern usage. Although it has historically derogatory overtones, within the black community is not being used as a word of solidarity, but rather just a racial colloquialism. A fair argument could be made by non-blacks that it is hypocritical to say that black people can use a term in a non-disparaging way, but anyone else who uses the term cannot use a term in the same colloquial manner, simply because of the nature of their skin color. Usage should theoretically be based on cultural understanding and group identity, not race alone, if it is sometimes acceptable and sometimes not. To do otherwise simply encourages racial divides even further, by allowing a privilege based solely on race.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it hilarious that I've heard the word "nigger" more in the past week because of this shit than I have in the past year or two.
