It's not over - 2 day match. Double/Final Jeopardy will wrap up tomorrow.I actually see watson losing here - he was choking on those higher value questions and witty word plays.
2/14/2011 7:43:53 PM
they are playing 2 games over 3 days.Did anyone else find it odd that Watson picked the daily double on his first try? It was a $800 value question, and all his other selections were the lowest dollar questions remaining on the board.
2/14/2011 7:47:22 PM
"This online forum is a gigantic worthless troll where State kids go to waste their boring lives""Watson""What is 'The Wolf Web'""Correct!"
2/14/2011 7:55:03 PM
Yeah, Watson didn't seem to be doing well on the harder questions.
2/14/2011 7:57:02 PM
The harry potter question was super easy and he blew it.

Category: TextingQuestion: JillAnswer: Who is IDK my BFFWatson would never get it.

^^ I'm guessing statistically pop culture questions are lower on the priority tree than historical questions. Probably didn't have enough info to pull from. Harry Potter was in his process tree though.I hope they give some more information on the lines on the avatar - are we looking at network traffic? threads? random animations?
2/14/2011 9:47:57 PM
I lolled when Jennings got guessed the 20s wrong and Watson immediately rang in a guessed the 20s. Stupid computer.
2/14/2011 10:15:47 PM
^^ They actually went into detail on that right at the beginning of the episode. I can't remember what they said exactly, but it was along the lines of the combination of color changes, line frequency, and faster/slower movement were a representation of the computer "grinding" to find an answer.youtube might be your friend on this one
2/15/2011 12:02:06 AM
The other human missed a chance for easy points on the gymnast with the one leg. Jennings said "one arm," watson said "leg," third guy should have buzzed in and said "one leg"
2/15/2011 1:18:05 AM
F Watson. That's some Skynet shit right thurrr.
2/15/2011 5:22:27 AM
Watson got screwed on the leg question. He knew what he was talking about.
2/15/2011 7:24:52 AM
2/15/2011 7:43:42 AM
^ This was a known bug. They said they had fixed it by having the opponents answer fed to Watson just like the question is fed to Watson. It appears that the bug was not correctly fixed.

wut
2/15/2011 9:12:23 AM
yeah nevermind, you can only wager as much as you have in the bank. I need some coffeethat post was so dumb I'll just leave it without editing the post
2/15/2011 9:16:29 AM
Watson would eat you for breakfast!
2/15/2011 9:22:07 AM
^^ I think they said if you're under $1,000 you can wager up to $1,000
2/15/2011 9:41:59 AM
i was bored with this by the end. bring on a brad/ken 1v1 showdown
2/15/2011 10:17:28 AM
After ~12 minutes of watching an artificial intelligence machine answer jeopardy questions you were bored? That might be the shortest attention span ever.
2/15/2011 10:20:15 AM
2/15/2011 10:22:42 AM
not really. I just would have preferred an entire episode dedicated to the background and then 2 days of actual competition. there wasn't enough AI answering jeopardy questions IMO. (and i'm strictly referring to boredom during the first episode only, not the entire watson competition)]
2/15/2011 10:24:27 AM
2/15/2011 10:47:57 AM
they should've made watson flash evil eyes for a split second every few minutes just to screw with people.
2/15/2011 10:57:17 AM
2/15/2011 12:05:41 PM
So can this thing talk shit to his opponents? In yo face, humans!
2/15/2011 3:44:20 PM
I'm in the other camp. I would have preferred 2 1-hour specials on the history of the machine, the event, its predecessors, and interviews with those who made it. Then a 1-hour of the actual competition.[Edited on February 15, 2011 at 4:04 PM. Reason : f]

I, for one, welcome our new computer overlords.
2/15/2011 4:17:01 PM
i'm somewhat curious how watson reasoned its daily double wager.
2/15/2011 4:27:51 PM
It's interesting that it answered a question with the same wrong response another contestant had tried, I thought they ironed that out based on the NOVA special.
2/15/2011 4:31:51 PM
^No. Someone hand types the human contestants' answers so that Watson can learn from them. It was a last minute hack that is exactly as stupid as it sounds. The fact that IBM's flagship supercomputer didn't bother to use microphones and speech recognition to monitor three individuals to get some real world input is enough to discourage me from ever buying one of their products. It's a glaring oversight. The techs in charge of Watson on that NOVA special came across as imbeciles. I was laughing when the head of the project was getting butthurt because the Jeopardy host kept making fun of Watson's horrible errors.^^The wagers are based on statistical analysis and extrapolation of all previous Jeopardy wagers and their outcomes.[Edited on February 15, 2011 at 4:40 PM. you sound bitter

2/15/2011 4:55:09 PM
Holy crap Watson is running away w it
2/15/2011 7:14:37 PM
I don't like these giant IBM commercials in the middle... freaking business majors...
2/15/2011 7:15:14 PM
Holy crap i am feeling pretty obsolete. Watson is taking over.
2/15/2011 7:16:33 PM
2/15/2011 7:20:42 PM
Also those are terrible categories
2/15/2011 7:21:12 PM
Not much of a challenge.
2/15/2011 7:22:02 PM
does watson determine his own wager? seems like someone was picking random numbers just to be funny... 947 bucks, 1246 bucks
2/15/2011 7:26:57 PM
Watson obviously didn't get the final category lol.
2/15/2011 7:27:11 PM
how did it fuck up final jeopardy so bad?
Humans pwnt, stay home
2/15/2011 7:27:30 PM
Haha Toronto. Computers are so dumb
2/15/2011 7:27:44 PM
THE CATEGORY WAS "US CITIES"and he chose Toronto????????????lol
2/15/2011 7:28:00 PM
it's pretty neat to see it lose a question like that... there's obviously lots of room for improvement yet.
