I pay 29.99 for 10/1 from Suddenlink. 15/1.5 is 44.95 and 50/3 is 120 or something a la carte. 107/5 is coming at some point I would expect. holla.

Is that 5mbps up guaranteed like AT&T? or 5mbps up shared among the neighborhood, like Cable?

well, i'm sure people won't actually pay those rates... i know i won't.

and phil, it's still shared at the CMTS, but they're also putting bigger pipes in... so we'll see.

Frickin RR Turbo is costing me about $70 a month now. This wont be much of a jump.

it's not guaranteed, it's a max rate, it's still over cable so still has the Achilles heel of the low spectrum limitations.

Dear Customer,

Over the next several days, Time Warner Cable will be upgrading its Digital Home Phone and High Speed Internet delivery systems. We're excited to say that this upgrade will enable us to offer even faster Internet speeds and improved reliability in the future. Look for more information on new speed offerings soon.

All necessary work will be performed at night between midnight and 6 am in order to minimize the potential for service interruptions. During this time you may experience a brief loss of Road Runner High Speed Online and/or Digital Home Phone service. Once the upgrade is complete, your service should be operating normally.

Its -- LIVE!

Apparently the Extreme and Wideband offerings are now live in most of Raleigh/Cary/Durham. For those that are not currently live, it should be available by the end of March.

There is a $59.99 installation fee to have their tech come replace your cable modem (lame) and the extreme (30/5) service is priced at $54.95. They will be coming to do my install tomorrow between 5pm-7pm.

For reference, I am in Durham (27703).

If anyone needs to call in and speak to a rep, this is the information I used and it was extremely quick and painless (You can call me directly at 919-573-7620 ext 1131127 or email me at katrina.x.williams@twcable.com)

As of a little bit ago, they still had appointments open for almost the entire day tomorrow.

This thread also has some good information in it:

I'm paying $112 right now for TV and Regular Road Runner from Time Warner

Calling Time Warner, they say my bill would go up to $161 for Extreme with TV (normally $174 without discount)

I can get similar speeds and TV from AT&T Uverse for $120 - I don't think sticking with Time Warner is worth an extra $40 a month

Just called and they said the Raleigh area won't be available until the beginning of April

edit: FWIW I live in Garner. I see on the dslreports forum that somebody got an install for Clayton, though the second person I talked to said "Oh no, not Clayton. I live in Clayton." So I guess nobody knows what's going on over there. They told me they'll call me back, but we'll see. I am disappoint.

Did you call the person/extension that I listed above? If not, I'd recommend calling her. It seems like a lot of people at TWC still aren't even aware it is being offered in our area yet -- this Kat lady seems to have her stuff together.

Commission aside --a lot of reps have their performance reviews based on surveys. So if someone goes above/beyond I always offer to fill out a perfect one on their behalf even if they don't ask. Usually they will give you their supervisor's email to forward your thoughts if they don't have a system in place.

What does this mean? like 6 months or a year?

And how do I go about getting this? I don't see anything on the website about it...

I'm not sure of the duration, if it is a limited time until it reverts to the "full price" or if it is an introductory special price

Call Kat - 919-573-7620 ext 1131127 or email at katrina.x.williams@twcable.com for clarification

Just got it installed.

Right now, internal TW speedtests put it exactly at 30/5, however external speedtests are not as impressive (12/5).However, I know that all commodity pipes are pegged right now with people streaming NCAA games, so I am going to hold judgement until the games are over and I re-run.

He knew I was a network engineer and gave me his install sheet and hit the road. I have all the default passwords (user/user). Bridge mode is supported. It's a really nice looking modem.

Looks like Time Warner has dumbed down the modem. According to the spec sheet, it has some really nice features and VPN support that isnt even available in the admin screen.

Please check your speeds to external sites. I haven't gotten more than 19 down for sites outside tw that I know support much higher. I have a service call tomorrow, even though this is a waste of time and I'll use this for escalation.

For those of you that have this, give me your results from ndt.ncren.net. This is the ring all of the colleges connect to. There is a 1 gig peered connection to all universities off that pipe, and you should see max speeds. Unfortunately, on my wideband, I do not.

Works fine for me -- I did have a huge issue with packet loss when my setup was first performed -- using http://www.pingtest.net/ I was getting 85% + packet loss. After looking around online, I came across a forum which recommended two changes.

1) Enable the wireless on the modem and turn on WPA2 encryption. By default this is on for most people apparently. However, I had turned it off as I didn't care to use wireless.

2) Disable the built in firewall in the modem.

After making these two changes I now get 0% packet loss and my overall connection speed is fantastic.

Disabling wireless on the modem causes packet loss? Sounds fishy

So the TW guy came over today. He said it was the wiring. I told him I didnt think so and I wanted him to connect directly to the tap outside and test speeds before I waste a week waiting for line to be run. Same speeds at tap. So now he is replacing the tap. Sheesh.

More damned problems.

1) Had install
2) Had followup visit when I was getting shitty speeds
3) came by at 3AM this past morning to install a new tap (truck woke me up)
4) same shitty speed, called again, sending ANOTHER person out even though I have ruled out my house entirely

Really pissed off. I did get something good done with the Ubee modem... I turned it into bridge mode. I think it sucks as a router.

Same thing in Greenville with Suddenlink's D3. It's almost like a public beta and a no-win situation. People bitch because they did the upgrades and would never offer the speeds or kept a tight reign on who they turned up. Then they roll it out -- shit hits the fan at a particular node and people bitch that they're paying for the speed and not getting it 24/7 and want prorated bills for the next 6 months.

(not implying you are even remotely this guy just what I've seen on DSLR)

That said I've had 1.5/4/8/10/12 and 15Mbit in some form or fashion over the past 4 years and always got advertised speeds. There's a 20Mb D2 package and 50Mb D3 package available but I'm not going to pay the premium for them at this time.

Well, my issue is that I am not getting advertised speeds even to things inside or directly connected to their network. The tech was getting 19 mbit/sec at the tap. Upload was good at 5.

Thats why i let it slide the first day, because I figured their commodity connections were being staurated from NCAA streams (UNC hit 3.5 gigabit/sec).

MCNC is a directly connected gig to time warner's backbone, so I should have no problems getting speeds in excess of 500 megabit/sec if my end station supported it.

Check on https://secure.dslreports.com/forum/timewarnerdirect usually there's an official rep for each of the major ISPs that can actually discuss your issue on the level you want to hear it. Not "Oh it's this or that, we're trying A but it could be "Saturation, Noise, Backhaul, Meaningless, Buzz, Words".

The guy I talked to on the phone did say he thought I would just be able to pick up the modem and not have to have anyone come out though.
