Seconded. I loved Man on the Moon - The End of Day. Was very disappointed in the second album.

^I liked basically every single song on End of Day. This CD is just a disappointment. It's growing on me a bit, but I still don't like it.

Seriously, Eminem is just rehashed pop over and over again. I hate that he got nominated for a best rap album, but Bun B and Rick Ross both had great albums this year that didn't get a nod.

if you're putting Rick Ross' album over Eminem's from this year, you need to spend some more time with rap music.

^Completely disagree. I listen to a fair amount of hip-hop and I think Eminem's newest album is total garbage. I think Rick Ross' newest album is pretty decent.

Dude, if I can hear B.M.F. pumping out of trunk's all over town, then I would say that he had a pretty successful year.

Add to that with the fact that what Ross does is pretty original you know, he is basically raping behind the alias of a very infamous criminal and delivers it with perfection.

Whereas Eminem has the same rapid delivery as Jay-Z types only not as good, has Dr. Dre produce most of his stuff.

He isn't horrible, for sure, but at this point he is more of a pop star than a rap artist.

he's moved beyond that though. rick ross as faux real-life criminal saw its last real vestiges in Trilla, with deeper than rap serving to metamorphose toward something new. basically around the same time he was outed as a former CO.

2010 rick ross is a lyrical michael bay movie. he is life, writ large. he is not a person, but a concept in a human form. he took the hubris and ego of making people believe he was ACTUALLY a large-scale drug trafficker, killed ricky ross (who apparently knew noreaga, the real noreaga), and just embraced the truth that very little of the shit that rappers talk about is real, so why not just be the most grandiose storyteller out. as hip-hop lost its geographic anchors over the last decade, it has evolved to require ZERO authenticity. if you're not bothering to rep a dude for being from YOUR corner of the earth, then there's no real way to authenticate or even bother checking up on people. people just listen, go *shrug* and move on to the next song. ross realized it and capitalized on it. his latest album this year was a monster, assisted by the complimentary lex lugar production. 2010 ross found his lane, and like Wile. E. Coyote, painted the fake tunnel into the side of the mountain and walked right through.

I think there is still aspects of him rapping as ricky ross. that's his bread and butter.

A lot of the content in hip-hop is personal struggle related or based off of rags to riches stories or ghetto violence. What I find interesting about Ross's albums is that he delivers based on the perspective of the actual living and breathing Ricky Ross, which is more than just stealing his name and rapping about his own personal stories. And his beets and production are always very decent.

Anyways, that's just my spiel. The dude had a great year despite not getting a grammy.

This thread reminded me that I needed to listen to Crystal Castles. It sounds like a fucking Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack. No, thank you.

Didn't listen to many albums this year. The only 2010 ones that I remember giving a fair listen and liking were:

Sleigh Bells - Treats
Crystal Castles - Self Titled
El Guincho - Pop Negro

I haven't gotten around to listening to the entire album but I'm sure I'll enjoy the new Deerhunter, Beach House, Janelle Monae, Tame Impalla, and Curren$y.
