i agree w/ the chain comment. out of the moe's/qdoba/chipotle camp i would prefer chipotle

but if i have a carrburritos/cosmic on 9th/baja/or even salsa fresh, i'm gonna choose that. i just can't fathom thinking chipotle is better than these. i mean to each his own, but damn carrburritos, cosmic (9th st), etc are soooooooOOOooOO delicious (IMO). and i love the salsas at carrburritos.

i've never been a fan of the salsa at chipotle. but yes. in a moe's v. chipotle, chipotle def wins. or a chipotle v. most other fastfood/chains. i'd def choose chipotle.

i just was shocked that someone prefers chipotle to carrburritos (or any other of the non chain places that are fantastic)

El Rodeo Grill on Six Forks Rd.

It's not the typical El Rodeo you're thinking of

http://www.elrodeogrill.com/

They have California-style burritos or whatever and they are massive. I had one with chicken and chorizo, lots of cilantro (om nom nom), etc. and it was freaking amazing.

That particular El Rodeo is pretty decent...of course, it must be part of the vast "el rodeo" empire in some way...there's no way they could use that name otherwise.

Never been to Carrburrito...I'll be sure to try it next time I'm over that way.

I do enjoy Chipotle a great deal. And I don't care what nobody says! Having it tonight actually.

People who do not rank Chipotle as the best of the chains really, really startle me.

Where are these places? Save me the google.

moe's, chipotle, qdoba are all bullshit burritos...think of them as mcdonalds, burger king, and hardee's respectively.

carrboritos is the BEST in the triangle, and rated as such in the independent for i don't know how many years.

The only burrito place i ever went to outside the chains in the triangle area was flying burrito in chapel hill, which i thought was pretty good. That being said

Qdoba>chipotle>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>moe's

More sit-down style: Dos Taquitos and Chubby's both have really good burritos.

Ranking the chains: I put Moe's slightly ahead of Chipotle because I prefer their hot sauce and their queso is great but both are >>>>>>>>>>>>> Qdoba(definitely the last resort).

I had Flaming Amy's once, didn't leave thoroughly impressed, will try again.

on a semi-related note, has anyone tried the new fish tacos at baja burrito?

I haven't eaten at baja since I lived in wood... their burritos were always just so bland to me (maybe they have changed that?)

fwiw, I like qdoba, moes, and salsarita's all the same, but I get different things from each. Qdobe = bbq burito (or tacos), Moes = fajitas, and Salsaritas= traditional burrito

never been to chipotle though- will check it out!

also, in response to flaming amy's - I think their burritos are average, but their salsas make them a step above everyone. I am pissed that I haven't been there in several years. I need to make a dg trip down to castle hayne and stop and get some flaming amy's on the way back!

I have eaten at Tijuana Flats 2 times in the last week now. The hot sauce bar is awesome. Actually everything I've had there is awesome. I still love Chipotle but TF is going to hurt their business in Cary since they are so close together.

Last week we got the cookie dough flautas for desert. It's like fair food any time of the year, but better.

Still, nothing beats Flaming Amy's, even though it's almost 2 hours away.

The fact that Chipotle is the top of anyone's list shows how shitty burritos are in the triangle or how limited the list-writer's experience is

Qdoba and Chipotle aren't as high on my list simply because they don't include chips in the price of the burrito. Gotta include chips for 'free' not charge what amounts to $texas for a just a small hand full of chips as a side. Oh, I got 12 chips, and only for a $1.50 extra. What a deal.

Quote :
"huh? how much are they? i don't remember them being $8 or anything..."

I think Chipotle tastes a bit better than some of the other chains, they charge about what the other chains charge (or a little more) but I find their burritos on the smallish side. Maybe it's just the one I go to, but sometimes they are small enough to almost fit two inside what I remember being the typical Baja burrito. That's how they are overpriced, not necessarily the price they charge per burrito, but the quantity of burrito you get for that price.

Again, it's probably just the one I go to that sucks. All burrito places are really inconsistent with what you get. I typically go to whichever one has a BOGO coupon and will often get the exact same burrito. More often than not one burrito will dwarf the other.

As I get older all the chains start tasting the same to me. I guess enough taste buds have died off. I'll have to try Cosmic and Carrburritos - saw that on a few people's list, but I haven't even seen one.

All that aside. Moe's only if it's a BOGO coupon. Moe's isn't that good, so I'd only go there to save a buck. I went there once with a "free queso" coupon and was surprised when the free queso turned out to be a tiny, tiny (I should probably say tiny a few more times) cup. Stupidest promo I ever saw by far. To top it off I think the cashier even forgot to apply the coupon, so I ended up paying money for that thing. Really made me since the $1 or whatever they charge is a complete ripoff.

Why would anyone have Tijuana in the name of their restaurant?

I rarely ever feel sick after eating something but the Gordita at Chubby's was so greasy it made me feel like death all day.
