With my job I'm on an HDHP, $3000 deductible but 100/0 afterward. The difference in monthly cost between that and the PPO plan goes into the HSA. After less than a year I'm getting close to the full deductible amount in the HSA, and if all goes well I can lower my HSA contribution next year. If you're willing to take the chance having to pay the deductible amount before the HSA fills out, I don't see a downside...(To add me to my wife's plan would be far more expensive than me taking even the most costly plan from my employer.)
