going into ny state for some snowboarding today. yay! It's our first real effort to figure out wth we're doing. Hopefully neither of us breaks anything, and I can get a few pictures of us face-planting in the snow.

Planning my Snowshoe trip for end of January -- any lift discounts? I can't find any info from Costco this year where I got the passes from last year...

Snowshoe is not offering lift tickets from costco this year. They do however have their tickets on http://www.liftopia.com/ but they are not really that discounted. Other than that they have the coke deal, but the dates for that promotion end before you want to go.

go to vertical urge. they sell actual lift tickets that you can attach to your jacket and hop on the mountain as soon as you get there. (not vouchers)

Anyone have recommendations for ski in/out accommodations in NC/VA? How much do those typically cost around here?

Free flights + free lift ticket =

The Park City Quick START (Ski Today and Ride Today) Vacation lets you convert your airline boarding pass into a same-day lift ticket to the Park City resort of your choice. It’s your chance to get a free same-day lift ticket at Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort or Canyons Resort."

Does anyone have experience with liftopia.com? I just bought some lift tickets to The Canyons for a good price from them, so I hope it is legit.

Wintergreen is alright if you want to make a very quick trip and short commute... Just don't go to sugar or beach

First you rent a snowboard....

Seriously though, I recommend taking a lesson with a real instructor, not your buddy. Instructors are paid to have patience.

I just gotta say the snow in CO is pretty epic for December, Vail got dumped on last week (over a foot, and almost another foot this week)... going up to Breckenridge on Christmas day (day 3), it's going to be awesome!

I actually like Sugar. I lived in Boone for 5 years. Is Wintergreen much better than Sugar or comparable?

we got back monday night from our VT trip. It was quite a learning experience... we tried out their 3-mile long "easy street" on day one, and got our asses kicked. An hour long lesson on day two helped, and now my husband is fairly solid on his board. I'm still struggling, but mostly because I hurt my wrist right off the bat and was terrified of falling on it again and making it even worse. Hopefully Stowe in late January will go a little smoother!

easy street is at Killington, right? Mt. Snow turned out to be really fun. That was a top 5 ski weekend for sure, but mostly due to all the friends that came and the hijinks we got in to.

I'm going to Lake Placid/White Face for my bday in January, woot.

Killington in late Feb or early March.

Probably a few trips to Loon and Sunapee.

I'm so pumped about this season.

I've yet to go to Killington, so I'm not sure if there is one there (but it wouldn't surprise me). We were at Stratton for our trip.

Base delam:

Contacted Ride CS about it as it's a manufacturer defect and they refused to fix it because it was pass the 1-year warranty period. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was interested in buying a Ride board.

Granted I think this issue is isolated to this board, but was not happy about my snowboard lasting only 3 seasons.

So... I'll probably end up with a Never Summer Heritage X 163

Getting up bright and early to ride Wintergreen tomorrow. First trip this year to knock rust off and get my sea-legs underneath m. Our annual trip out west is in 2 weeks to Lake Tahoe. Hoping Wintergreen still has some of the fresh snow left from Christmas.

I'm so excited I can barely stand it. Been watching YouTube vids all week of deep pow riding that have me stoked about this season.

I'd like to do some skiing over MLK and part of that week following it...I'd like to hit Squaw Valley.

Anyone ever skied Alaska? How tough is the terrain? How late in the season do I need to wait so it's not so brutally cold that it's miserable?

Went to App Ski Mtn yesterday

got soaked it was raining on the mountain...its the shortest runs i have ever been on although the terrain park was nice since I board.

planning to go to Beech again in about 2 or 3 weeks.

what sucked was I was with 7 other people who had never boarded and I had to try and teach them.

I'm not gonna spend my time perusing through this thread to see if it's already been said but:

I went to Snowshoe a few weeks ago. It was pretty flipping sweet.

Lodge/Cabin came out to be about $40/night/person: http://www.vrbo.com

We used the Kroger deal for lift tickets. Buy 4 12-packs of Coke products, use a Kroger card, and receive a Buy One Get One Free voucher on your receipt. So if you and a friend are going, it'll cost you like ~$37/lift ticket for a full day.

http://www.liftopia.com for discounted lift tickets too

Depends what you drive/how fast you're willing to go on small curvy backroads.

It took us less time coming back when we went 30 extra miles but took major roads/highways/interstates instead of the backroads google maps loves.

From Raleigh: Take 40 west to Winston Salem, then get on 77 North, then take exit 40 for I-64 East, then exit 169 and follow the signs.

Went to Vail, Alta, Snowbird, and Deer Valley while I was interviewing out west earlier this year and I'm going back to SLC in 2 weeks. Few pics from Vail and Alta on the blue days. The freakin corduroy at Vail was absurd and I think I took this picture at like 11 AM. There was nobody there...thursday december 2.

^ Yeah, Vail is AWESOME. Probably my favorite place to ski, and I went there as a skeptic, thinking it was just an overhyped place to brag that you went (like the opinion I generally hold of Aspen, although now I know to reserve real judgement until I ski it).

I'm so, so sorry.

That place has got to be a contender for the shittiest skiing facility on Earth.

Got two more days at App Ski Mtn for the PE skiing class. After one night on the slopes, I now know why the trip was so cheap. Hopefully Sugar Mtn is better.

Yeah, Sugar sucks way less.

Appalachian is drowing in fail, and to add insult to injury, it isn't even cheaply priced in accordance with how much it sucks.

So anyone been to wintergreen lately? dubcaps and I are trying to head to Wintergreen or possibly Snowshoe this weekend.

For those of you who have been to WG this season, how was it? Just coverage wise. I've spent more than enough time at WG to know what I get when I got there. I'm just worried about the above freezing temps all week stripping what man made they do have on the ground and leaving the steeper runs closed.

Thoughts anyone?

I went on the 30th. It wasn't bad for wintergreen. It was a little crowded, but if you stuck to the area where all the "black diamonds" are it wasn't too bad. The other side of the ski area was full on retard slalom. Very dangerous.

But between then and when you're going, there's gonna be a lot of days that go well above the freezing mark, and a lot of nights that dip below freezing.

so bring yer ice skates.

Not worried about ice so much as coverage. But thanks for the info.
