Durr. Don't know how I missed this on the other page. But I'll repost it for page 2 since I "found" it myself tonight. http://forum.firecore.com/topic/4109It gives instructions on how to get practically all the websites with streaming content (Hulu, CBS.com, Spike, The Daily Show, SP Studios, etc) working on XBMC without having to use an external conversion server like PlayOn. I just tried it out and it works beautifully. Even has the subtitles for all the shows on Hulu.]

Also I just found out that an Orb server (free) just shows up as a source in XBMC (and PS3 for that matter). If you have a TV Tuner in your computer you can watch Live TV on your Apple TV. Also if your ISP supports it you can get ESPN3 as well. This thing just keeps getting better and better.
2/24/2011 10:58:59 PM
yea i found all of those in that repository earlier, lets just say that I did not do very much today.
2/24/2011 11:23:41 PM
Ok ESPN3 on ATV2, that's what I've been waiting for. Going to jailbreak tonight and install Firecore. So the process would be:1) Jailbreak (looking at Greenpois0n for this...any reason to use something else)2) Install XMBC3) Install Orb server on desktop PC4) Install various plugins via SSH5) Rock n rollCorrect?
2/25/2011 10:55:14 AM
Step 4 isn't necessary if all you're trying to do is espn3. For hulu there are some plugins needed. Also, if you have a Mac, I'd recommend seas0npass instead of greenpois0n just because the interface is so much nicer. I jailbroke before seas0npass had been updated and gp gave me some fits trying to get into dfu mode. The onscreen prompts never worked right for me.
2/25/2011 1:49:44 PM
Wife has a Macbook, might try the JB with that and seas0npass then. I'll probably install Hulu and some other plugins just for fun.
2/25/2011 2:13:47 PM
twice the pricehalf the featureseight times the marketing
2/25/2011 5:41:31 PM
Looks like hulu doesn't work anymore and the guy that got it working in the first place seems to think it is probably a lost cause.
2/27/2011 11:19:39 PM
Got my micro USB cable today in the mail...I know what I'll be doing this evening
3/1/2011 4:49:37 PM
Yeah I remember that excitement. Waiting for it to come so I could finally jailbreak it... and then it turned out I had ordered a miniusb instead of microusb. I tried to find a quick one on craigslist then just drove to cary and borrowed my dads.
3/1/2011 6:50:04 PM
HULU still works for me, FYI.
3/1/2011 6:59:45 PM
Well that was relatively painless. Only hangup in the entire process was when I was screwing around with add-ons in XBMC and the Flickr add-on wants you to authorize through the built in browser. It got some kind of weird error and I couldn't exit out of the browser with the limited remote functionality of the ATV so I just rebooted through putty.Just verified ESPN3 is working when using Orb. What is incredible is that it pulls every single replay from what seems like forever. I started streaming an EPL game from back in September! None of that shows up on ESPN3.com. I hate having to run such a memory hog on my desktop but then again what else am I going to do most of the time with 8GB of RAM?So how do you add repositories to download more add-ons than those found through XBMC.com? I checked the add-ons on their wiki and there are at least twice as many listed there as in the add-on menu within XBMC. nm found it with some searching...I like the power of XBMC but I can already tell it's waaay too much for my wife to be interested in. The firecore aTVFlash looks like it might be a better option for ease of use, but for now I'm going to stick with whatever gets me watching ESPN3 on my TV. If I could find the HGTV add-on (or especially TLC) then I think she would convert and be a fan [Edited on March 1, 2011 at 11:56 PM. Reason : google]
3/1/2011 11:48:36 PM
Hulu kind of worked for me last night. I was able to browse any list of shows I pulled up and started streaming an episode of The Simpsons with no problems. However when I realized I had already seen that one and picked another, it wouldn't load the stream. Not sure what the issue was, is just didn't load. Also installed The Daily Show add-on. Streamed the 2/28 episode in hi-def without issue. I know aaronburro is trolling in all the Apple threads about half the features, twice the price. All I know is that I dropped $99 (actually $0 out of pocket, used gift cards from Christmas to buy it) on a box slightly bigger than my wallet that has made cable TV totally irrelevant.
3/2/2011 9:08:33 AM
It certainly is a great device. Trying to get it all set up now with newsgroups to basically function as a DVR. Also trying to find a good skin for XBMC, like ^ I need something simple if I want to keep the fiance interested in it. And while I know there are other alternatives for the ATV2, it really is rather cheap (I got mine as an xmas present, but I wouldnt mind buying one myself) and while it requires jailbreaking to get some abilities that come stock with other similar devices I think the future support on the ATV2 will far exceed other products.
3/2/2011 12:33:52 PM
Using XBMC with the Ellipse skin. I love this, I tried like 5 different skins and this one seems to be the smoothest. I have sickbeard and SABNzbd set up to DVR all my shows, send them to the right directory and XBMC automatically updates. This thing is far exceeding my expectations with the ease of use and what you can do with it.
3/3/2011 10:33:48 AM
Ok so check this out. I love ESPN3 but they don't carry nearly as many EPL games as Fox Soccer. So I found this article:http://greg.mcmull.in/how-watch-sopcast-through-orb-your-iphone-or-ipod-touchHave Orb running on your desktop. Install SopCast and launch the stream you want to watch on the AppleTV.Right click Orb in task barClick Control PanelPick WebcamClick +Add http://127.0.0.1:8902/stream as the server, SopCast as the nameThen when you go back to your TV, go to Orb and you'll see SopCast as a source under Webcams. Click on it and it will stream whatever channel you have running on your desktop. There are tons and tons of SopCast channels out there (of varying quality...ie http://www.livefootballtvs.com/sopcast-channel-list.html). Hope this helps someone!

I'm really hoping someone finds a way to get all the NCAA games streaming. I at least have access to CBS HD through basic cable but it would be nice to have all the other games. Also - provided there is an NFL season I would love to see a way to get Redzone streaming.[Edited on March 5, 2011 at 9:54 AM. El Nacho's dresser is a fucking mess...
3/9/2011 11:52:30 AM
That's not my picture dumbass. Why don't you go back to not being able to figure out if people are talking about the iPad or the iPad2?
3/9/2011 3:13:34 PM
yea hulu crapped out. Does this affect playon as well?
3/13/2011 9:15:23 PM
I don't see how it could. Playon converts the picture on your pc to a video stream that is then sent to the ATV. As long as you can watch hulu on your computer, playon should be able to convert it.
3/13/2011 9:57:53 PM
cool I may have to look into it if there aren't any other options
3/13/2011 11:00:05 PM
PlayON is not affected. Well worth 40 bones for a year with all the add ons i have come across.
3/14/2011 10:44:35 PM
Apple started resigning the 4.1 (iOS 4.2.1) firmware again recently. If anybody's bought a newer ATV with 4.2 preinstalled or accidentally upgraded without backing up the SHSH blobs, it's now possible to back them up and/or downgrade. XBMC doesn't play nicely with 4.2 at the moment.
3/18/2011 11:01:42 AM
Was The Daily Show plugin basically pulling streams from Hulu? Because neither seem to work anymore.Getting SopCast to work was definitely the best thing I've done with it so far. Great to be able to watch basically any EPL game I can find online on my TV instead of my PC.
3/18/2011 1:28:16 PM
Thinking about trying something besides XBMC now. ESPN3 picture quality is usually not that great and now the ATV is restarting after about 10 minutes of streaming anything from SopCast.
3/24/2011 1:31:07 PM
^that's just being caused by the ATV checking for updates. Instructions on how to fix it are here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=96685
3/24/2011 4:15:32 PM
Awesome thanks...just followed that guide, we'll see if that fixes the problem.
3/24/2011 4:54:58 PM
Thanks again! I was able to watch the US v Argentina friendly on Saturday with ESPN3 streaming to the ATV2 with no restarts.
3/28/2011 9:08:51 PM
yep. Hasn't crashed for me yet since I changed mine. I wonder if Apple did that on purpose or if it was just an unintentional side-effect of the update being pushed.
3/28/2011 11:36:51 PM
Whats the best forum to keep up with for progress on more ATV2 hacks? I follow the guys at XBMC a lot for skins and things of that nature, but wondering for non-xbmc type hacks. Also - El Nacho, I'm pretty positive you have an ipad as well (mines arriving in a few days)... are there ways of using the ipad as a remote to control XBMC on the atv2?
5/1/2011 2:27:43 PM
appletvhacks.net i think?I'm pretty happy with xbmc on my appletv2. Good stuff. streaming via upnp from my bedroom pc.I wish we would get more 3rd party app development though. I'm expecting to get an ipad someday and got the atv mainly for its connectivity to iphones/etc.
5/3/2011 1:31:27 PM
Yeah I definitely love XBMC. I've finally got around to getting all my music set up on it, we recently moved to a house with a big backyard so we will be hosting lots of parties/cookouts so it will be nice to have an easy streaming option. Our ipad just arrived in the mail today as well, I plan on using XBMC commander, it looks really nice and from what I've heard works well.In regards to XBMC - what skins are you guys using? I'm currently using "Night". I'm using the logo view with extra fan art, it looks great although it does have occasional issues with lag.
5/3/2011 2:10:14 PM
5/3/2011 2:11:09 PM
Ideally I'd more like to use it for the ability to switch music from any room in the house. From what I can tell with xbmc commander it has the capability to browse your library and select whatever you want to play. I'll still use my normal remote when sitting in front of the TV.
5/3/2011 2:37:46 PM
So laying in bed playing with the Ipad last night trying different apps - I decided to check out the free XBMC remote app called Soulmote. It has a tiny ad at the bottom but its pretty awesome, I wanted to see if it would work and clicked on one song, instantly I heard the music fire up from the other room.

http://atv.macminivault.com/ Webpage being hosted by an Apple TV 2 (webpage is currently down/really slow, due to the fact that it's being hosted on an Apple TV 2 )]
5/18/2011 5:24:44 PM
so ive had an apple tv for a few weeks and i am really really missing my ps3 this thing can not even handle 300mb divx files over the network, streams netflix fine but damn, divx/xvid files should be playable by anything these days
7/5/2011 10:24:42 PM
You do know that this thing is beyond useless unless you jailbreak it, right?
7/5/2011 10:28:44 PM
I bought and loaded aTV Flash (black) on my apple tv 2, and I freaking love it.Beta 6 just came out and made the built in media player awesome. Im in the process of ripping my DVD library to our server, and its working great so far. The media player even preserves the menus from the DVDs, so I get all the special features and everything.
7/5/2011 10:30:06 PM
^^ its jailbroken, running TVMobili to XBMCis there a better program to use?
7/5/2011 10:49:46 PM
I've never heard of tvmobili before, but I just googled it and it seems completely unnecessary. Why don't you just use SMB shares? XBMC will pick those up just fine.
7/5/2011 10:57:23 PM
i could never get it to find the SMB shares but ill try again
7/5/2011 11:01:40 PM
Windows 7? I had some issues with my dad's computer picking them up too. I had to end up typing in the location manually cause I could never get it to find it with a browse.
7/5/2011 11:14:08 PM
xmbc with tversity (upnp mode) is my setup for a win7 machine.
7/6/2011 8:15:11 AM
PS3 media Server works like a dream. I use it on ATV2 and all my consoles.

So whats the best way to get epsn3 to work? the bluecop repository keeps giving me a failed script error, and I have orb installed but apparently i'm an idiot.
