so do you people think RW will get his # retired when it's all said and donebecause i dont get that vibe at all, unless he plays his senior year and is an absolute beast + many wins by state
10/12/2010 10:44:58 PM
Mario should firstNo, he didn't lead the program to great heights, but any number 1 pick should get that honor
10/12/2010 10:47:39 PM
im wondering if they have a 'must graduate' criterion for getting the honor, like duke bball has[Edited on October 12, 2010 at 10:49 PM. Reason : hell i still have trouble believing that Mario is the only #1 pick from the ACC ever]
10/12/2010 10:49:04 PM
We would probably have to win the conference for 16 to retired. And, ^^, c'mon man! I can list at least a dozen players more worthy than Williams.Mario is a great pro, but only played great in about 10 games during his NC State days. He went number one based on potential and one dominating game vs Maryland.[Edited on October 12, 2010 at 10:53 PM. Reason : f]

Hell proof that RW is not in the running can be proven by the fact that PRiv was not even in the running. In 2003 Jason White won and where the fuck has he gone. In 2002 Carson Palmer got the award. Granted Palmer is a good QB but not in the same league as PRiv, Eli, or Big Ben from around the same age range. The difference was those two QB's were from USC and Oklahoma go fucking figure.Looking at the list....2001- Nebraska2002- USC2003- OK2004- USC2005- USC (although vacated)2006- the Ohio State2007- Florida2008- OKTrophies Held by School (listd >3)Notre Dame 7Ohio State 7USC 6Oklahoma 5Army 3Florida 3Michigan 3Nebraska 3

If we beat ECU and RW puts up solid numbers, then we pound FSU on ESPN and RW puts up huge numbers, then, he'll jump way up there.Otherwise, an average or worse performance against FSU and good bye dreams of ceremony.
10/13/2010 9:39:10 AM
in for 100
10/13/2010 9:42:05 AM
10/13/2010 9:54:26 AM
in for $100, but RW is a loooooong shot to get invited. Remember that Graham Harrell didn't get invited to NYC, which reinforces the "big" school bias. Even though Harrell didn't have a chance to win the Heisman he atleast should have been invited. Was Colt Brennan invited to NYC?[Edited on October 13, 2010 at 9:57 AM. Reason : .]

Is Stanford a "big" school? Toby Gerhart was invited.

^^^ You're right. The book "Death to the BCS" actually drops today from a Yahoo! writer who alleges the same things. The system is as corrupt as they come.
10/14/2010 10:04:36 AM
everything that HUR said is exactly what happens. Its a "rich get richer" scenario, just like what happens in society, if you have a big name, you get big recruits, which makes you a good team and get victories, which gets you into a bigtime bowl game, which gets you media exposure and a big name, which attracts bigtime recruits, etc. etc. etc. I dont know why you keep bitching about it, its the way the system is. Its not like this only happens in college football or in the BCS ranking system, this happens in baseball (the yankees and red sox), pro football (the cowboys), college basketball (duke, carolina, kansas, too many to mention), hockey (detroit red wings), it even happens in politics (democrat and republican candidates retaining office), and in the business world (NASA, Microsoft, etc. getting the best engineers and scientists in the world to work for them, which helps them continue to make the best products/services possible, which helps them bring in more money, which makes the best scientists/engineers to want to work for them, etc etc etc). It happens EVERYWHERE and is essentially what the country is built upon.
10/14/2010 10:30:01 AM
You can't really compare the BCS as HUR described it to any other sports championship procedure, college or professional. It's a system that discourages parity, something that every pro league fights to maintain. And the Cowboys? Really?]
10/14/2010 10:34:19 AM
well I'm speaking more about college football as a whole. The BCS system is just a product of the college football world and is just a computerized way of ranking teams based on their success (which is a product of recruiting, etc.).and pro football isnt as pronounced as the other examples, but you do have players who have said that they want to play for the cowboys because of their history as "America's team".
10/14/2010 10:43:52 AM
the second wilson finally started to get the recognition that he deserved, he threw 5 picks in two games. he aint gettin anymore talk
10/14/2010 10:45:14 AM
Right after the BC game he was on a brief "Heisman Watch" blurb on CBS, right next to Terrell Pryor. He's not getting anywhere near the talk he was getting before the VT game (and understandably so), but it hasn't stalled completely.
10/14/2010 10:48:32 AM
we pretty much need to win the rest of our games, and Wilson needs to throw for 300+ yards and 3 TDs a game for him to even be invited to the Heisman ceremony
10/14/2010 11:02:15 AM
^agreed. I do think that if we don't fall asleep at the wheel and lose to ECU, then turn around and Russell were to have a good game and beat FSU, that the buzz would be pretty noticeable. So many IF's right now it's like a damn met life commercial.
10/14/2010 11:04:03 AM
The group has almost 200 members in three days, so at least Russell will have plenty of biased support
