if you really need to know i will email you later
yeah right about drlpping out yeah right i have 3.9 gpa last time i checked , rank 2 in major in sophomore class (out of 60), rank within top 10% of entire university sophomore class and been invited to all honors programs and socieites department and university and others.

@amorris. i never said i needed to to be spoon fed everything but he lacks other qualities of a good teacher as well i have already menioned, i have taken plenty of courses where teachers have some qualities of him but they were effective in other ways

i dont know maybe because that is the whole point of the study hall board which is to get help from other students and i might as well take advantage of it? i dont make topic like this for every class i take do i? so whats wrong with providing some help.

if your just gonna tell me to ask the teacher for advice that is not really help cause any one can do that, hey didnt need the course or know the material

It may be really helpful for you to go to your professor for reasons other than being successful in the class.

Developing personal relationships with your professors will be beneficial to you, especially if you are considering graduate school and will need faculty recommendations in the future. Don't be such a wuss and go approach your professor. He will appreciate the effort you show forth and remember you better.

Aren't you the same guy that was trippin' balls because performance was such a big part of your bowling grade?

Uh, bullshit. You can't spell, punctuate, or construct sentences correctly, and you expect us to believe you're in the top five in your class (not really a big deal for just your second year, by the way)?

No, we're saying you need to be spoon-fed, because that's what all your self-righteous complaints boil down to. Have fun once you graduate and try to get a job with that sense of entitlement.

i agree that relationships need to be made, but the instructor here just doesn't provide clear answers and I could care less about history, it is hard enough hearing him ramble 50 minutes every class. eg) i ask him a simple question and he rambles about 2 minutes providing no clear answer, now do you see why I don't want to talk outside of class?

yeah I do believe it is too big of a grade (70% or 80%), epsecially since the bowling lanes there are worn out and the ball doesn't roll strait which will make your average much worse than what it is supposed to be? yeah why do you think the drop rate for that class is so high? at least i didn't drop it after the first class. I went to a modern bowling lane and bowled at least 40 points higher each time. it doesn't matter now since I passed with an S. and don't you having anything better than to track and read my posts? what does it have to do with this topic and why bring it up now?

reason I can't spell cause I usally post from the phone and nor do I care...its an internet mesasge board man...well I don't think asking for help in this 1 class means I need to be spoon-fed but if that is how you want to see it.

Guess I'm a little late replying...

Yes, I did take the class. As an engineer who needed a foreign culture humanities requirement only. I'm glad you feel I am at such a higher level of intelligence than you, but this class really wasn't that difficult.

I would love to help by suggesting ways to think conceptually and keep paying attention in class but I think you have an antagonistic and defeatist attitude about the class and the professor specifically.

As everyone else has said, if it is a problem YOU have, then YOU should take the initiative to go to office hours and figure it out. If you spent the time it took writing all these responses in his office instead, you'd probably have enough time with him to get caught up and possibly ahead of your classmates.

dude you are missing the point, when i ask for help from study hall i expect real help (like what topics, key terms, definitions are important, because most of what is lectured in class is not on the test) from students not suggestions from students who tell me to ask him for help-that is not help that is just laziness if I needed that i wouldn't even be here in the first place students who took the class can provide help that the professor will not so if you are unwilling do that then you need not post and waste my time

yes i do have an "antagonistic and defeatist" attitude but as i already mentioned i have good reasons to support that, i already said why it is not my problem

bro, for the 100th time, MOST OF US HAVE HAD VICKERY BEFORE, stop acting like we're just being holier-than-thou jerks. We know how his classes go and what you need to do to be successful. You have to read chapters he assigns and identify key areas (I'm sure he would point you in the right direction if you asked him) to study.

The solution can't be flashcards or anything like that because that's not how he tests. Now if you aren't sure what to study in the text, the simplest thing would be to go talk about him in depth about it, not as an off question before class or whatever.

You're lazy, you hate history, and you already have a bad opinion of this professor. The only suggestion I have is that you find some way to drop the class because I don't see any way you can get better if you're struggling at this point.

I realize this thread is about those who have had vickery.... which I have not. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.

I am in outside sales, which is currently salary+commission, but will move into straight commission starting at the beginning of July 2010. I have been in this position since July 2009. I have competition from several direct manufacturing sales reps, large distributors, and local distributors. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:

Direct Advantages: Immediate knowledge of new technology, no middle man mark up, one shipping bill (paid by manufacturer or buyer of goods), access to larger range of non-commodity items, control inventory, have access to many distributors that can effectively sell their goods which increases market share, and set prices of commodity they manufacture.

Direct disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 sales reps per region (i.e. southeast, mid-atlantic, northeast, etc.) limiting the number of accounts they can successfully manage/cold-call, lack physical customer service or physical technical service available to or affordable for smaller users or altogether, are sometimes not trustworthy because they will go in behind their distributors that sell their commodity to one account in large quantities (i.e. they missed a big account, and have found out about it through a distributor selling their particular product) which leads to the distributor not selling their product anymore, have too many distributors selling the product ultimately driving the set price down through deviations, possibly rely on distributors to actually sell the product, and competition from other direct sources.

Large distributor advantages: have access to other commodities that go hand in hand with other manufacturers (poor example- grocery stores sell milk as well as cereal), get direct pricing, many locations regionally or nationally easing the shipping burden of buyers with multiple locations, personal service either customer or technical, many sales reps that are able to cover a broader territory, access to multiple manufacturers of the same commodity allowing to keep prices in check, service programs that smaller companies can't offer and direct providers can't match in price or value, and experts of many many commodities as opposed to one or a few.

Large distributor disadvantages: smaller local distributors creating price wars (think Michael Scott Paper Co vs Dunder-Mifflin), direct mfg's going in behind and stealing business, limited access to all of the mfg's (you won't find Harris Teeter name brands in Food Lion and visa versa), can't truly set prices because it's based on both supply and demand, territory management, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for direct as well really)

Local distributor advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the seller and the buyer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the local level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies, if the local guy buys at high enough volumes then there is no shipping charge to the end user, and access to both direct mfg's and large distributors.

Local distributor disadvantages: easily beaten in price, array of commodities, array of technology, lack of trained staff, low cash flow, etc etc etc.

This is what I have noticed in my six months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a sales person is this: I go after the big accounts right now while I am new. The big accounts, if I land them, will take care of me while I am new and building a customer base. The money made off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller accounts that get me higher margins. I build up big accounts, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 medium accounts. If I lose 1 or 2 big accounts, the 20-30 medium accounts keep me afloat while I go after new big accounts. I don't really waste time on small accounts simply because they basically pay for breakfast or something really small.

I will say this, if you can't get a big account in the first 6-8 months (assuming you have cash flow that you can ride this long) you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going after the others a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time on anything other than big accounts in the very beginning. You work just as hard on the medium sized accounts and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the money in my situation.

If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I hope this helps in the slightest!

Is there really someone on tww that has trouble with a lower level vickery taught history class? unbelievable. Both classes I had with him had multiple athletes in them and they did fine. This kid needs to suck it up and buckle down and read the material. if that isnt enough to pass a class taught by vickery (and you are paying attention during the lectures) then you are just plain dumb.

I showed this to a friend of mine, happens to be one of the deans of career services at one of the area law schools. She had an extremely pained look on her face and couldn't stop repeating "oh my god." Ended up with saying "karma will fuck this kid up."

i got the test back today and somehow I got an 81 even though I left one response blank http://yfrog.com/5yimg1004wjj
i guess the person is right that he grades easy because most of the stuff I BS'd and I still got almost full credit on including the essay. also was given partial credit for wrong answers. i guess i was expecting him to grade harder than that.
sorry to waste everybody's time if you responded to this thread

^^ no dude it isn't apparently b/c way more people have read this topic than posted in it and they didn't react or post. so you are talking about 5 % of people maybe and if you can't resist ignoring the thread if you think its stupid thats your problem maybe you should move along.
also you are not a moderator, employee, etc. and its not your board, so why care about "flaming stupidity"
now since the issue is resolved i am going to leave this thread for good and no logner put up with gerks like yourself
