This weekend I'll be competing in the ACC tournament in Washington, DC!! Charleston doesn't have enough people to send a full team, so I'll be tagging along with a combination team. Three clubs are sending players for this team. I think it'll be fun and chill, my expectations aren't high cause most of us have never played together before!

that behind-the-head move was sick

Can you slash people?
6/1/2011 11:24:29 AM
^ I don't know what that is ... a term from "above water" hockey? PS ... Memorial Day weekend I went to a tournament in Atlanta. We played in the '96 Olympic pool! Depth was 10ft, our pool in Charleston is only 8. The bottom was REALLY rough concrete, which can cause some bad raspberries! But there were no subs so people got tired - combined with the depth the bottom was less crowded so I didn't get scraped up as bad as I feared. ]

Is this mainly a girl's game? I'd think with a bunch of guys playing, at least one drowning would be par for the course
6/1/2011 1:58:03 PM
^^ a hack maybe? using the stick as a weapon essentially
6/1/2011 2:07:47 PM
that's what I was guessing. Use the hockey stick as a knife and slash people on the arm/face/etc.
6/1/2011 3:27:11 PM
You don't actually lacerate the person, you sick fuck. You just bash them on the arms and body. Minor bruising at worst.
6/1/2011 3:30:10 PM
Lulz. You can lacerate them if you do it right, the wrist is usually the only place you can do this. Slashes occur on the arms and legs. High sticks, much less severe than a well placed slash actually explodes the skin, not cuts it. Makes for some sick scars. But yes, slashing I basically whacking someone with your stick blade.Seriously, are there penalties? And if yes, or not, do people beat the shit out of the opposition with fins, feet, hands, or sticks?[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 4:35 PM. Reason : .]

You're missing the backwards B
6/1/2011 5:57:16 PM
Well, you aren't allowed to intentionally hit people in beer league ice hockey, but it happens. Sometimes, people just piss you off and they deserve it. And yes, it is still considered dirty, unless the guy was asking for it. But I don't mind some of the dirty stuff behind the play. Is it like soccer sitting out, or like 2 minute penalties like real hockey? How do you talk shit under water?Nice shiner, btw. That's awesome.[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 12:47 AM. Reason : .]

^ Wow I realize I never answered those questions! For minor fouls, the ref places the puck and the opposing team must stay 3 meters back at the start of play. For a more serious foul someone could sit out like hockey. And if a foul happens within 3 meters of the goal, there can be a penalty shot. Those are done with 2 offenders and one defender. It's played until a goal is scored or the defender clears the puck.I just came back from Nationals in LA!! Charleston wasn't able to send a team so I played with team San Diego because they were short some players. We ended up with 4th place in the B division. I wanted third soooooo badly! But it was a great time, and I have some underwater pictures!I'm in the first pic, the others are of other teams but I think they look cool!!
