Lotus EletreThe brand's first EV is of course... an SUV 905 hp in R trim. Here is a detailed review, including a 1/4 mile launch.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8EWcrRDd5c

Lotus is dead.
5/5/2023 10:24:59 AM
the first ev is the evija, though you could argue it was the tesla roadster
5/6/2023 10:31:12 AM
^ shit, i forgot the Evija! i guess i should say the Eletre is the their first mass-market EV.the Tesla Roadster was sold as a Tesla, not as a Lotus.^^ surely coming out with an SUV would revive the brand, right? all the ultra-luxury and supercar brands coming out with SUVs in the past few years have massively increased their fortunes and sold more cars in just the past few years than they have for decades combined!

For their entire history Lotus has been a lightweight sports car manufacturer. Does what you describe above sound like Lotus? Ergo, gone. But that's the whole point. Nobody goes into the sports car business to have high sales. They do it to build fun and exciting cars. Not grocery getters for soccer moms. Who cares that their sales are all time highs? Is it sports cars being produced? No, it's boring 3 box practical vehicles, many just badge engineering exercises.[Edited on May 10, 2023 at 5:50 PM. Reason : ]

would you rather them be history or go the route of porsche?

^^ Lotus Emira on sale! There is your sports car.And my point is simple: SUVs = money = company stays afloat = it can continue making sports cars.
7/15/2023 5:06:42 AM
^^As soon as they kill the current Cayman they won't make anything I'd be interested in, so hard to say. The Emira is Lotus's swan song. Looks very likely that after that car they'll be unrecognizable as the company that existed before being taken over by Geely.
7/17/2023 10:27:08 AM
^ True about Lotus, but you can see evolution like that in nearly all car companies.
8/16/2023 8:08:42 AM
????Not sure what point you're trying to make. People will buy 4 door cars with cargo space instead of small sports cars? No kidding. Perhaps Lotus should have started that way in the 60s instead of the low volume sports cars they built instead? Do you see how silly the argument is?On the flip side, a naysayer could reference Porsche for "successfully" banking off SUVs. I mostly disagree though, as the company is now more about banking off it's history and hawking limited edition models to the 0.5%'ers. They used to be a halfway affordable sports car maker but have of late thumbed their noses to anyone of more modest means. Which would somewhat be okay if their lower trim "mainline" models were built to a decent quality standard. (inflation adjusted, a late 60s 911 would cost around $50,000 today).
8/16/2023 4:37:30 PM
I don't think they or any company ever desired to be 'affordable' that was just the segment they could have success in at the time because their brand lacked the cache. No company that manufactures anything wants to work on lower margin.

^^I mean, believe it or not but many of those companies weren't founded for the goal of getting rich. Far from it. But yes, different times, and yes exceptions to the rule for sure.

TKE-Teg's gonna love this... a 905 hp [probably 5,000 lb] sedan by Lotus!https://www.motor1.com/news/685648/lotus-emeya-electric-sedan-debut-905-hp/

Already aware of the upcoming sedan, and haven't bothered reading anything about it. No explanation needed there.I'd complain and say "make a new thread" for new cars, but I'm happy to say keep the trash in here

I finally get my lotus back after almost a year at the body shop thanks to a truck plowing through it while it was parked. I drove it home and mechanically it was perfect but all the hand made body parts took FOREVER. not sure what to do with it now
