All you need is a time machineGo back 100 years and make your school and football program something other than turdsThen you can have success in a small market

^Is there supposed to be a point to that post?Gainesville is home of UF, a team that has won multiple national championships, in the past 5 years.Madison? UW a big state school with a lot of Alum. They also play in a big time conference.Blacksburg? VT has been good for how long? They play in what conference? They're in a big state with two bigtime schools.Clemson? Large school, one of two in SC, have a history of football success play in BCS conference.Tallahassee? Home of a large school in a big state with a lot of football history and they play in a BCS conference.Athens? One of two bigtime schools in GA. They play in the SEC.Lincoln? The only good team in Nebraska plays there. They were arguably the best program in college for a long time. Two of the best teams ever played there in the 90s. They also play in a big conference.Ann Arbor is basically Detroit, and is home to a BIG school with big time football history that plays in a bigtime conference. They also get more than 100K people at home games.South Bend is very close to Chicago and Indianapolis. Notre Dame plays there and has a non-localized national market. What is your point?7 of those places house a former national title winner.[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:10 AM. Reason : asdf]

The point is that you don't have to live in a giant market to bring in huge number of TV viewers.
9/12/2010 12:09:45 AM
But you have to have a giant national fanbase of alums and bandwagonersECU does not have anything close to that
9/12/2010 12:11:48 AM
sure you don't, but when Ann arbor is something like 40 miles from Detroit, and South Bend is <100 from Chicago, and 7 of those teams are former national champions....also Madison is 80 miles from Milwaukee. [Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:15 AM. Reason : asdf]

I think all the talk of the Big Ten Network this past summer has you guys confused on how this TV thing works. The Big Ten network is a very unique situation in college football. When nebraska joined the Big Ten, the Big Ten network was able to sell their package to cable TV providers throughout the entire state of Nebraska. Then you have the obvious outliers like NY and Chicago and a few other giant population centers. Outside of that, the City's population doens't matter. Otherwise, memphis would have already been invited to the Big East.
9/12/2010 12:13:47 AM
I think you're missing the point that no one outside of Pitt County gives a fuck about ECU

9/12/2010 12:16:38 AM
9/12/2010 12:18:00 AM
It also helps to have a demographic that isn't borderline retarded
9/12/2010 12:18:12 AM
Whether they travel better than small schools like BC or Duke or GT doesn't matter. People care more about BC than ECU, that's saying something.
9/12/2010 12:18:22 AM
This killpups guy has to be trolling. There is no way even a ECU fan could be this dumb.Of course someone who thinks Southern Delaware State is a college is pretty sad.
9/12/2010 12:19:26 AM
srsly
9/12/2010 12:20:03 AM
speaking of borderline retarded.......ya'll are killing me. lol

9/12/2010 12:22:09 AM
What is your opinion on ^^?
9/12/2010 12:23:28 AM
No, he meant Southern and Delaware St.The game that was on opposite the ECU game on SundayThe game that featured two I-AA schools and pulled in a higher rating than ECU
9/12/2010 12:23:32 AM
If you think ECU's fanbase is nearly as big as State's, you're an idiot.
9/12/2010 12:23:45 AM
No he said Southern (the college) and Delaware State
9/12/2010 12:23:57 AM
9/12/2010 12:24:36 AM
ecu may have a decent number of fans, but most of them either cant afford a TV or are too stupid to figure out how to turn one on so their ratings blow. just like their market blows. i know this is true because they wouldnt be slumming it up in CUSA otherwise
9/12/2010 12:26:06 AM
9/12/2010 12:27:06 AM
I guess he got tired of not responding to anything relevant
9/12/2010 12:28:21 AM
Yeah exactly. I think my point may have hit home.
9/12/2010 12:31:29 AM
wtf?lol srsly?
9/12/2010 12:32:22 AM
i grew up in the triad and no one gives a shit about ecu there. they are below app on the food chain
9/12/2010 12:32:38 AM
And most of those schools he mentioned, while not in a large city, are very close to very large cities.Ann Arbor ~40 miles from DetroitMadison ~80 miles from Milwaukee and the only D1A football team in the State plays there.South Bend is <100 from ChicagoAthens is like 60-70 miles from AtlantaGainsville is like 60 miles from Jacksonville
9/12/2010 12:32:59 AM
lol at two I-AA teams pulling a higher rating than ecu, thats pretty sad
9/12/2010 12:34:22 AM
lol ya'll are fucking cluelessthis is hilarious
9/12/2010 12:36:46 AM
Please state your case for ECU's inclusion to the Big East vs let's say....Central Florida.[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:39 AM. Reason : f]

ECU is probably 5th soon to be 6th or 7th in most peoples minds in the State of NC. I'd put App ahead of them with State, UNC, and Wake. No one cares about Duke football but that could change.Everyone knows ECU is just full of players to are too dumb (either for academics or off field problems, usually both) to get into better schools.
9/12/2010 12:39:06 AM
9/12/2010 12:39:14 AM
didnt you hear man, they dont care about the big easttheyre holding out for the SEC
9/12/2010 12:39:22 AM

we need a list of "Things that get higher TV ratings than ECU football"I bet women's basketball is on there

dont forget that charlotte is a huge sleeper if they get that football program off the ground. im more scared of them reaching FBS than ECU's continual existence tbh[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:43 AM. Reason : ^beaten]

I also thought about them a few more posts up talking about ECU being maybe 7th in the state.^Come back to me when1) ECU can stop someone2) ECU scores on a decent team.Did ECU play today? [Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:46 AM. Reason : asdf]

50 points a game! Wow! We are so fucking scared I'm calling Tom to tell him to forfeit! We've beaten two of ECU's best teams EVAR the last two years.

Ok, one of ya'll has finally made a decent point. The Liberty bowl does suck big hairy balls. thats a fact. Kudos. You get one point. It does suck to lose in the Liberty Bowl especailly when ya have both games won and you crap them away. What bowl did ya'll play in last year? Or the year before, or the year before, or the year before? Yeah how's that BCS thing workin out for yalol ya'll are trippin me outthis is funwhats the next topic?oh yeah, things that get higher ratings than ECU.I will enjoy this. ya'll are really good at these thingsI will sit back and check it out.[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 12:50 AM. speaking of virginia tech...they were independent until they got a legit ass football program, eventually the big east took them, then we stole them from the big east. the big east doesnt want ECU because they dont even have the upside of VT (which is basically offer good not great football, nothing else, and hope for the coverage of a state that has no pro sports teams and maybe some of the DC market)ECU has greenville and some other sparsely populated cities in half of an already saturated state
9/12/2010 12:49:33 AM
And how did I miss this earlier gem?
