I've always wanted to get attacked by a dog. As long as it's not a mastiff or anything, I figure that I could take him. I don't go around looking for trouble with dogs, and in fact I've never had any problems at all, but that still doesn't change the idea in the back of my mind.

that's pretty fucked up. I mean if you have to use self D-FENCE and something happens to the dog that's one thing, but to set out to murder the thing is different. I had a childhood friend who lived in the neighborhood across the street whose next door neighbor poisoned and killed his two dogs because she thought they were annoying. absolutely traumatized the kid for a long time.

that being said, if the dog attacks you by all means take a bat to him to defend yourself.

I see it more of the "bush doctrine" of pre-emptive defense such as our invasion of Iraq. We are not talking about
"annoying" or "loud" dogs here, we are talking about hostile and visicous dogs who are lingering threat to the neighborhood.
The dog as mentioned in the OP was going beserk this morning, luckily he was in his fence, as kids across the street
waiting for the school bus now that school is in session. I suppose we should wait for the dog to get loose again, like
as in the night before. This way he can chase all the kids off and if he bites one than we can be like YA HE IS DANGEROUS!!

I have been around loud and territorial dogs before. This one though from my encounter the other night though is probably
the closest I have been to being bit and the most convincing act I have seen from a dog saying "I don't mind biting you"

That being said, my knife is coming with me on all future runs/bike rides in teh neighborhood.

if the dog was running loose without a leash, you can call Animal Control and they will issue a criminal summons to the owner.

happens every single day. (and, if you don't know who the owner is, they can usually find out pretty quickly)

We use these bite stopper umbrellas at work. It is what it sounds like, an auto deploy umbrella. YOu point it at the dog, it opens, and usually scares the bejeusus out of them. Also they wont attack though the umbrella, even though its made of fabric.
