you'd better back up when donte comes off the line of scrimmage, or he'll run you over!

if those shotgun snaps could actually make it to Clausen, he might get a better play off

Clausen is looking good overall

For the guy's first ever NFL game he is showing a lot of poise out there

strong arm too

- Moore looked pretty good once he shook the rust off in the first series or two. He made some good passes even though Gross brought a few back. I wonder how much more holding we'll see with the referee right behind the Left Tackle.

- Clausen looked pretty good too. He seemed to do well reading the coverage and making the necessary pre-snap adjustments. He threw some sharp passes too, although I have questions about his long ball.

- The defense didn't look that bad, with the exception of a few breakdowns that lead to big plays. I hope Brayton isn't too hurt. Connor looked good. The defense kept us in the game throughout.

- Deangelo is just fine. I have no worries about our running game, especially when we get Stewart back. While Gross has always had pass blocking questions, his run blocking has never been a problem. And whoever started at Right Tackle and played at LT later on looked solid. Not Duke Robinson, it was some big white dude.

- Our Special Teams need work. The positive is Armanti didn't muff any punts, but he didn't do much on returns. And our coverage continues to need work. At least Kasay showed he still has a boot with the 50 yard FG. I'm hoping the muffed FG snap earlier was a result of the rainy conditions.

- I would've liked to see more from Lafell but I guess the coaching staff is comfortable enough with him that they didn't need to see him as much as Edwards. Moore had a hell of a catch, and looked like he was playing at mid-season speed. I expect him to start as the #2 receiver after Smith.

- Fiammetta looked good. I think he'll be a fine replacement for Hoover. He had a huge block on Deangelo's big run and I like how we passed to the backs and tight ends. I hope we keep up that passing attack where we spread it out when we get Smith back.

- Cantwell has the arm but not the decision making. Pike can see the field, but hasn't adjusted to the speed of the pro game yet. I think Clausen established himself as the #2 tonight, and I was pleasantly surprised in his entire pocket presence and field vision. It didn't look like his first NFL experience.

I feel pretty good about what I saw so far overall, especially from the starters.

Armanti Edwards did nothing to show he isn't just a poor man's Kenneth Moore. I don't see how he earns an active roster spot, especially if he continues to be so tentative/contact-averse on punt and kick returns.

Are they going to cut someone like Dwayne Jarrett to make room on the roster? Smitty, LaFell, Moore, even Dexter Jackson look clearly better, and I don't see the Panthers going into the season with LaFell as the only receiver over 6 feet tall. They are probably going to carry 3 TEs again, and need RB depth even if they just keep one FB. Unless Armanti suddenly turns into Josh Cribbs, that is looking like a wasted pick.

I know it's just preseason, but our defensive line looked downright dominant at times. I think Hardy is gonna end up being one of, if not THE steal of the draft. And that guy, Moore, from FSU impressed with his range and explosion.

Clausen's pocket presence was really impressive. I love the fact that he takes what the defense gives him. Really never seemed to force anything, and had no problem checking down to a back. He just has the "it" factor.

True. I had my eye on him after Packman and Frank and Buck had been talking about him so much and he impressed. The reason he dropped is because he could never stay healthy in college though. Let's hope things will turn around on that front now that he is in a Panthers uni.

It was good to hear Marcus Hudson's name - he had a couple of tackles. Hopefully he can jump on the depth chart ahead of some of these younger guys and get some more PT.

I didn't hear Tank Tyler playing. I see he played some though, I guess at the end.

I don't want to be the pessimist here, but was I the only one that was not hugely impressed by "the most pro ready QB in the draft"

Just some quick observations.
- He stares down all his WRs
- Threw across his body and against the grain a lot
- Had "happy feet" in the pocket. To his credit he did stand in there and take a few hits
- The fade was under thrown. However LaFell should have caught that one.
- Constantly threw into coverage (got bailed out a couple of time by the receivers)
- Most of his passes didn't have a good tight spiral

Reminds me a lot of Jay Cutler's style. He has too much confidence and thinks he can make throws that he can't and it will hurt him when starting secondaries are in there.

I understand its preseason so I'm still reserving my finial opinion till I see him in a real game. I'm just not ready to anoint him like everyone on ESPN.

I was impressed. His very first game as a pro, most of it in a driving rainstorm, I thought the dude did really well. He seems extremely confident and comfortable back there. He made good pre-snap reads, adjusting the plays as needed be and went through his reads.

I don't think you're right at all about him "staring down the receiver" (aka Jake Delhomming). If you watch the replays of his eyes he went through progression after progression. Sure there might have been a couple throws where he locked onto a guy, but it's probably cause the guy was about to get open. Spiral? Eh could be better, but as long as it gets there, who cares. He's definitely got a rocket.

I only noticed one of those problems ^4 mentioned, and it was throwing across his body, and he only did that a few times.

He threw into single coverage pretty much all the time, which is completely fine. Only time he threw into double coverage was a perfect pass that was completed anyway.

Pretty damn good for a first game ever.

his ball is wobbly as hell. its not a big deal as long as he isnt throwing ducks

he does have a weird relationship between ball security and making plays. he doesnt seem fumble prone at all (a nice change from delhomme), throws the ball away a lot a la RW and checks down a ton. but then he throws off his back foot, across the field and lets his receivers "make a play"

i think a year on the bench will do him a lot of good. way more than people think it would. hopefully moore is good enough that he gets it

you know who else doesn't have a tight spiral? Peyton Manning

look, whatever you think Clausen will or won't do in the league, I don't know how anybody can say he didn't look good for his first ever NFL experience

I've read in this thread that Clausen has Jay Cutler's style, Peyton's release and Tom Brady's demeanor...I've also heard he has John Elway's resilience, Joe Montana's ability, John Holmes' cock, and the ability to leap tall building in a single bound.
