Completely unfair. No other argument. Believe me, I am all about the rules/sanctity of golf, but the minute you allow patrons to stand all over bunkers, they become waste areas at every other course on the PGA tour. Its perfectly legal to ground in a waste area, and thats exactly what that should be labeled. The dude could barely see the area with all of those fans around. Look at that overhead pictures. That head rules official that was such a fucking prick should have been up there with a huge staff to clear all the average joes the fuck out of the way. Had DJ been able to see the totality of the area he would have at least been able to make his own judgment.

Feherty said without question he would have never in a million years thought that was a bunker. He was 100% certain and he was walking with the player.

I think I would sue the PGA if I were Johnson

^^ It was a lateral hazard so he could have gone back as far as the line where the pin is and where the ball crossed the hazard line.

this, especially the bolded part.

Watching that call made me sick to my stomach. Johnson got ass fucked there and everyone knows it. I like how everyone talking about it keeps saying "you don't get relief, and you have to play the ball as it lies, thats what they decided at the beginning of the week" ...well no fucking shit. He didn't ask for relief, he played it as it lied, and he played it like every other fucking golfer would have knowing that there were spectators standing in the grass filled waste area that he saw his ball in. There should have been an exception made to that particular rule under the circumstance that he could not identify the margins of the "bunker", and the PGA shouldn't have allowed spectators in the area.

So what happened in the playoff? I quit watching after 4 hours when they penalized johnson.

^Bubba lost on the 18th. Bubba birdied 10, Kaymer birdied 17, and both hit in the rough on 18. Bubba played first and chose to take a rip at it and came up short in the creek. Hacked a wedge over into the bunker and almost drained the bunker shot coming back. Kaymer layed up and 2 putted for bogey to win.

^I agree, all of those asshole rules officials were basing their arguments on the fact that he knew it was a bunker. The flaw in their logic is that nobody knew it was a bunker. That course had a ton of waste area, sand, beach, hazard sand, etc. The fact is with the huge crowd, and the trampled down nature of the area it was extremely misleading to the player. You can even see that the shot came off a hard flat dirt area, without your typical sand trap blast splash/effect. Just total bullshit. Reminds me of old timey basebally guys that want to stick to tradition, what a bunch of fucking assholes. The rules of golf are important, but they need to be flexible too, especially when dealing with crowds, and questionable hazard areas.
