It's not so much about Facebook as it is about the creation of a billion dollar company.
10/4/2010 12:52:46 PM
Thank you, bobster. Exactly right.
10/4/2010 1:15:16 PM
^^agreed.you're missing out on a decent movie if you aren't watching it because it's "about facebook." I went in a little skeptical and really enjoyed it. You could go into that movie having never heard of facebook and still enjoy the movie. It isn't campy and it held my attention the entire time.[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 1:38 PM. 10/4/2010 1:24:27 PM
^Exactly right again.
10/4/2010 1:35:24 PM
humm... is it now? Just sounded cheesy. I guess I'll wait for it to come out on netflix.
10/4/2010 2:39:29 PM
have you not seen the fucking awesome trailer
10/4/2010 2:41:19 PM
When I heard about it I was hesistent. When I watched the trailer, I was interested. When I looked up directors, producers, actors, et cetera, I was far more interested. And after reading some of the reviews from the people whose voice matters most in the industry, who are all saying it's an amazing film, well now I really want to see it....but Mission Valley has shitty screens.
10/4/2010 3:34:07 PM
Trent Reznor did the musical score. I think he's going to win an Oscar for that.
10/4/2010 8:46:40 PM
^It's a good score. It tends to distract from the movie at certain points, though, something a score should never do in my opinion. Then again, I thought Jonny Greenwood's score, while also good, committed the same crime in There Will Be Blood and he got rave reviews for that score, so what do I know?I think my favorite line in this movie is when Eduardo Saverin flips out on Sean Parker: "SORRY! I must've left my Prada at the cleaners along with my hoodie and my fuck-you flip-flops, YOU PRETENTIOUS DOUCHEBAG!"And also, when Zuckerberg flips out on the Winkelvii's lawyer: "I don't want to perjur myself, so I'm legally obligated to say 'no.' You have part of my attention. The other part is back at Facebook headquarters where my colleagues and I are doing things that nobody in this room including and especially your clients are intellectually or creatively capable of. Did I adequately answer your condescending question?"Not that I totally agree with the sentiment behind either line, just the way they're delivered is pretty great.[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 9:10 PM. i found myself thinking multiple times throughout the movie (which i enjoyed a whole lot) how excited i am that andrew garfield is going to be spider-man. he's a really solid actor.
10/5/2010 3:56:54 PM
I thought he was great in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
10/5/2010 6:16:22 PM
Does it portray the world of website development as gritty and cut-throat?
10/5/2010 6:26:20 PM
I have got to see this movie.
10/6/2010 1:14:49 AM
^^yes
10/6/2010 6:41:32 AM
looks lame and apparently its "fiction" according to zuckerberg
10/6/2010 7:59:57 AM
Yeah if you saw any of the trailers you knew immediately this movie was going to be about 80% fiction. Definitely dramatizing an otherwise boring story to make it more interesting to audiences. But from what I've heard it's a great movie, just sad that I'm sure over half the people who saw it think it's entirely true, haha.Much like they adjusted the true story from "The Blind Side" and made it more Hollywood friendly.[Edited on October 6, 2010 at 8:08 AM. this movie just frustrates me because I realize it could've been me!!! I could be worth 6 billion right now if only I thought of this idea
10/6/2010 8:21:38 AM
^or if you had been a Harvard douche bag and sued him.
10/6/2010 9:58:15 AM
I think I will go see this.
10/6/2010 10:41:30 AM
i don't care if it stretches factual information as long as it is a good movie and according to people who have seen it, it is one of the best of the year
10/6/2010 11:02:50 AM
What would be Zuckerbergs motivation to say anything in this movie was fact?
10/6/2010 5:59:17 PM
i'd know that he has an awesome sense of humor and it didn't come from aaron sorkin
10/6/2010 8:02:11 PM
I was also skeptical but this was highly entertaining

As a history major, one thing about this movie that I think is fiction is that it portrays Zuckerberg as having this "grand vision" so early in the game. The oldschool TheFacebook (I joined January 2005) was intended to be somewhat tight-knit, and from what I remember firsthand there was significant debate as to whether it should expand beyond colleges. Remember the old "how do you know John Smith?" box that would pop up? And if you clicked "I don't know him" then it wouldn't add him as a friend iirc. Remember when groups were only for your own school? In the movie Zuckerberg starts talking about his vision for photo albums and tagging people in late 2004. But that feature didn't come until late 2005 from what I remember. And in the beginning, people at Harvard are like "Facebook me" and I never heard anyone use the term as a verb until at least 2006.I think Zuckerberg was feeling his way along like any normal person would. The movie shows him as a decisive visionary, a "man with a plan."

just saw this.Liked it a lot.
10/8/2010 11:20:07 PM
Enjoyed it. One question: A couple of different times I heard them mention people called "VCs". What are those?
10/8/2010 11:47:10 PM
Venture Capitalists?
10/9/2010 7:55:35 AM
finally saw it...great moviei really liked the rowing race scenei feel like that scene put the way our society is moving with the advances in technology into a visual metaphoralso the chicken parts were hilarious
10/11/2010 12:20:16 AM
See this movie.
10/11/2010 12:30:25 AM
also kudos for using accurate programming lingo and not having the computers make crazy futuristic sounds while people were programming
10/11/2010 12:50:27 AM
it was a good movie, i dont think its great, but very enjoyable
10/11/2010 1:20:06 AM
^^Dude, I thought the same thing.I expected the hacking scenes to be like something out of Firewall.
10/11/2010 3:04:33 AM
I liked this movie, definitely didn't feel like 2 hours.I've read varying opinions on the score, but I thought it was pretty damn good
10/11/2010 9:55:01 AM
Awesome movie! Good script, good score, good acting. Inspired me to pursue an idea of my own I've had for a while.
10/13/2010 4:30:39 PM
LOVEEED the movie. felt sorry for eduardo, though. good guy, zuck screwed him over.
10/17/2010 12:45:40 PM
saw it the other night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. the "plugged in" reference is pretty true for myself when i code. It seems to you really get into it and if you get pulled out of the zone you lose it.
10/18/2010 12:46:43 PM
^I'm the same way as an engineer. Especially when I am creating calculators using excel/VB (which I guess is coding, just in a much more elementary manner to what you are talking about...). I just need to have my earbuds in and focus, focus, focus on what I'm doing. If someone stops by my desk and has questions, it totally kills the productivity for awhile; it really takes awhile to get back to the same level too. You just build this momentum that keeps you performing at a really high rate I guess.[Edited on October 18, 2010 at 1:13 PM. Reason : .]

You really thought they were going to bang? You had a better chance of seeing James Franco deep throat Sean Penn in Milk
11/11/2010 12:20:45 PM
Just trying to justify why they gave Rashida such a small role, that's all.
11/11/2010 12:31:30 PM
wow, movie was much better than i expected. They did their homework on the computer jargon.is there anything though that shows how much of it was true? did he buckle the network by hosting a webapp on it, etc.?
12/20/2010 1:15:13 AM
There's a couple major discrepancies between the real story and the fictionalized one, and they're all pretty open and you can look around for them (wikipedia will tell you the major differences--his best friend in the movie wasn't the case in real life). As far as Zuckerberg's personality, most people that know him say that it was exaggerated and fictionalized for the movie (the jury is still out--still, it was made pretty obvious that some things were changed to make it a better paced film).
