GET TA PAVIN'
7/14/2010 8:45:38 PM
Doing the same thing in north Raleigh too, Millbrook road is all torn to shit and down to 1 or 2 lanes, they hit Glenwood around St. Marys a week or two ago.
7/14/2010 8:47:55 PM
i think it's the same crew working on 5 roads at once
7/14/2010 8:51:42 PM
Yeah, I've definitely had to find another route home. I ride a scooter and I drift like a mofo on the scraped area. Thats what I get for riding a scooter, I guess.
7/14/2010 8:54:23 PM
I've never seen so much construction going on as I have this summer. AND FUCKING DUMPTRUCKS ARE EVERYWHERE AND ONE KICKED UP A ROCK THAT BROKE MY FUCKING WINDSHIELD THE OTHER DAY
7/14/2010 9:07:57 PM
i feel youi drive a matchbox car myself, and i feel the road trying to drive me aroundi need to slow the heck down, cause the raised manholes are winging me when i bump over them
7/14/2010 9:09:31 PM
I like it because it keeps most people in one lane (away from the raised sections) meaning I can actually get somewhere on time instead of waiting behind a bunch of damn grandmothers
7/14/2010 9:16:17 PM
^^^ Hehe. My old roommate bought a motorcycle. With all of the road construction, the amount of roads he can actual drive on safely is slowly dwindling. I'm kind of happy about that, as I had to sit through him bragging about how much he spent every time he filled up his gas tank. Yet when it came down to getting groceries, who did he ask to go?

7/15/2010 8:11:39 AM
I alwyas read this as "paging avent ferry"
7/15/2010 8:17:31 AM
They finished milling Avent Ferry last night, now all 5 lanes are lousy to drive on, except there aren't any manholes in the far right lane, so its not as bad as it could be.
7/15/2010 8:23:00 AM
wat?pretty sure it's not finished... unless they aren't doing some parts. I just drove and swore I didn't see much change from yesterday...
7/15/2010 8:44:54 AM
all of it looks milled with the exception of portion of the very far right lane going towards campusit's definitely different from yesterday
7/15/2010 8:58:32 AM
Its all milled from at least Lake Dam Rd to Gorman, and I could see it milled all the way down past trailwood as I was waiting to turn. Maybe there is some area closer to campus that isn't finished, but the majority is done.
7/15/2010 9:17:37 AM
they've done work all the way down to the avent ferry/athens drive splitthe part towards lake johnson is fine anyways, cause most of the bus routs cut up towards jones franklin[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 9:27 AM. Reason : towards]
7/15/2010 9:27:41 AM
so this morning on the way to work, some lady decided that she was going to DODGE all of those raised areas and did this by swerving into wherever it was that there wasn't a problem, regardless if there were cars in the other lane or noti shat 5 bricksit was a goldurn free-for-all out there
7/16/2010 6:27:33 PM
They've milled most of the surface coarse now they're milling the base coarse and repaving it. I saw it going on last night.
7/16/2010 6:41:49 PM
i'm taking kaplan tomorrow to gorman to westerni can't stands it no more
7/18/2010 10:39:25 AM
Not a fan of avent ferry on a motorcycle. Think I'm gonna avoid that ride from now on.
7/19/2010 9:04:37 PM
I used to go Tryon to Gorman to AF to VarsityNow it's Tryon to Trailwood to Main Campus Dr. I'd do it even without the stripped road if it weren't for the 25MPH school zone.
7/19/2010 9:13:59 PM
They went in and leveled off the manholes and utility points, which tells me it may be a while before they actually get to paving, and are doing this to prevent any damage to vehicles until that happens...
7/20/2010 11:41:38 AM
^^^You don't like that side to side wiggle?^They've got the contract and broke ground. No reason to hurry now. We used to do that shit all the time...put our machinery on the ground, do a little work, then go back to our other projects already in progress. It sucks for the customer, but if you don't do it someone else will and you'll have worked yourself out of a job by the end of the month.
7/20/2010 11:59:04 AM
When they are done I think they are going to stripe it with bike lanes, at least between Athens and Gorman.
7/20/2010 3:18:50 PM
updates please
7/22/2010 3:32:51 PM
nothing to update
7/22/2010 3:40:05 PM
They had crews out last night near the Kangaroo gas station, but it looks like they only paved a small strip, nothing major is underway though.
7/23/2010 8:13:41 AM
it pisses me off when they have 4 inch man holes sticking up. shit hits my undercarriage.
7/27/2010 11:55:31 AM
http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/07/27/600147/construction-worker-hit-by-car.htmlanyone witness this?
7/27/2010 1:00:06 PM
It looks paved in short strips in random places near the Gorman intersection and a bit of the way towards campus.A little bit more drivable and comfortable but I'm still not going in the manhole lane.
7/27/2010 1:18:39 PM
wow, pretty sure i saw that guy trying to direct traffic. i was thinking he was going to get hit. there were no cones around him and he was just standing in the middle of the road pointing for people to get to the left. he had to jump out of the way for the car behind me that didnt get over in time. pretty sure from what i saw this is his/the company's fault
7/27/2010 1:32:04 PM
it's all still shit. And I highly doubt anything is sticking up FOUR inches above the rest of the road. If so you'd have a lot of cars hitting it with their bumpers, blowing out tires, etc.
7/27/2010 2:15:30 PM
7/27/2010 2:40:40 PM
WTFwhy does the city/state/whoever let them trash a road and leave it that way for weeks/months on end?i've noticed it with Glenwood, Avent Ferry and Millbrook in North Raleigh. I also know someone who busted their tire on Avent Ferry a couple weeks ago. It simply isn't safe.
7/27/2010 3:19:23 PM
7/27/2010 3:26:30 PM
^^It's some horseshit. Plus all those little asphalt pebbles cover the road and my car with its sticky tires just LOVES flinging them up all over the place (including against the car's paint )
7/27/2010 3:56:03 PM
7/27/2010 3:59:56 PM
7/27/2010 4:13:43 PM
It's in the specs to leave the road like shit, intentionally, for a few weeks? Why, so we as citizens appreciate it when it's been repaired?
7/27/2010 4:26:31 PM
this is a heaping chaotic mess of FAIL. Can we blame George W?[Edited on July 27, 2010 at 10:36 PM. Reason : .]
7/27/2010 10:36:11 PM
I sure would appreciate if they'd get to paving this damn road.
8/2/2010 10:56:11 PM
^ Yea for real... they just went and patched the entire thing and then stopped...
8/3/2010 8:11:45 AM
this jackhammer waking me up is hopefully a sign of progress. hopefully.
8/9/2010 9:53:09 AM
Yea lets hope, the thing I hate the most is people turning off Avent Ferry, who slow down to like 5mph to mount the old pavement...its like an inch up and not going to harm your car in anyway to go a little faster... It sucks when turning from Avent Ferry onto Gorman and some douche holds up the whole lane and lets like 2 cars get through before its red...
8/9/2010 9:56:15 AM
They were tearing up some bottom layer last night around varsity intersection and repaving it right away. It looks like they have done that in several places all over.
8/9/2010 10:05:21 AM
Yea looks like they are maybe patching the most damaged areas, and then will come back and pave the entire road.
8/9/2010 10:24:21 AM
this is gonna be sweeeeeeet when school starts on wednesday compounded with the university shutting down some of the commuter lots/roads to build a new parking decki'm starting to wonder about the most insane, crazy back-route ever that i've got tucked in my brain[Edited on August 14, 2010 at 11:10 PM. Reason : i've got it all figured out with the exception of how to make a specific left turn at 5pm]
8/14/2010 11:08:56 PM
I'M IN UR CITYTAKIN ALL UR ASPHALTS
8/14/2010 11:48:59 PM
took them long enough, but they've at least started paving 1 lane. far right lane is paved going from western towards gorman.
8/31/2010 2:32:36 PM
Fucking Gorman St. is even worse now traffic wise.
8/31/2010 3:16:44 PM
