speaking of the op, there are a few sounds dubstep cannot save IMO, almost every drake song is in that category. Nero managed to save forever, that's it. I think Owl City also falls in unsaveable IMO.

I've praised Jawkob in a few threads. He's a good dj with a few amazing songs. What he did with those two Ellie whatever her last name is songs was AMAZING.

I'd say right now the best DJ's I've heard are
1) Nero
2) Skream
3) Flux Pavilion
4) Rusko/Caspa (grouping them because they're very similar, have combined, etc.)
5) Bassnectar

I'd be tempted to put Chase & Stratus in there, but they haven't done enough dubstep.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/154704/Seal-hopes-Kanye-West-can-offer-an-alternative-to-dubstep

gonna quote the intro
Quote :
"SEAL is hoping his pal Kanye West can offer a hot new alternative to dubstep, the British garage music sweeping the nation.

The husky-piped singer is no fan of the grimy genre, dominated by the likes of Katy B, Skream and Magnetic Man, and is pinning his hopes on ’Ye."

Two thoughts:
1)Katy B and Magnetic Man are nice mainstream additions to the genre, but they do NOT dominate it by any means.
2)Imagine a track by Skream or Nero or someone that samples Kanye's "imma let you finish"

Yeah I wouldn't even consider Katy B or Magnetic Man dubstep. They sometimes incorporate dubstep elements into their stuff but they definitely aren't what I'd consider real dubstep. I don't get why Seal even cares if people like dubstep.

And because I don't like posting in here without adding a track here:

Yeah that's a good description of it. I like it, it's just not dubstep.

I'd probably call that dubstep.

I just recently learned that Magnetic Man is comprised of Skream, Benga and Artwork. 3 guys who basically defined dubstep as a genre come together and somehow the stuff they produce isn't really dubstep...

Even Rusko's new album (which is really good) isn't even mostly what I'd consider real dubstep.

In an interview (or maybe it was a twitter post) Rusko said that he didn't give a fuck how people defined dubstep he was going to produce music that he liked and thought people would listen to. So maybe the genre is broader than I consider it or maybe it's just going more mainstream.

http://core.thomaslaupstad.com/bbc-radio-1-essential-mix-2010-07-24-magnetic-man/

Their essential mix is still pretty good though. It doesn't really get very dubby until about 30 minutes in but it's still a good mix. Has nearly every track from their upcoming album.

That Pendulum essential mix posted above has some really good dubstep and is a really good mix in general if anyone hasn't gotten it yet.

^Heard about 20 minutes of that when they played it on radio 1 one night when i was coming back from a friends house. Can confirm its epicness.

no wonder everything magnetic man puts out is so enjoyable. also, if you didn't know Nero has an epic electrohouse alias.

Magnetic Man feat Katy B - "Perfect Stranger" has been stuck in my head for the past week.

^I love that song, but of course it's one of those things you can't really call dubstep which is why I said above that most of what Magnetic Man has put out is very good, but not "dubstep"

Yea, the magnetic man essential mix and the glastonbury 2010 mix (4hr comprised of annie mac, chase & status, skream filling in for rusko, and toddla t, each 1hr back to back) have been in my rotation constantly lately.
