That's a link to a candidate's website. Please return your obtuse antics to your containment area, The Garage.

Burr's website says we still need "several more years" of war, Elaine opposed President Obama's surge and called on others to do so as well. It's a pretty clear choice.

And for page 2:

Quote :
"Obstructionist - Even with the military. In addition to participating in filibuster threats, he held up Duckworth's nomination to a key position in the office of veteran affairs despite her strong qualifications. He specifically also let generals travel from Korea and Hawaii to Washington DC for a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee and then canceled the meeting as a part of a larger party wide effort of obstructionism to not even let meetings happen.

Economy - When he was first learning of the severity of the recession he told his wife to go to the ATM day after day taking out all the money it would allow b/c he was convinced that in a few days "the last thing that would come out of the ATM is money" (I can't recall his exact quote, but that isn't far off) which earned him the nickname Bank Run Burr. And, after his meeting with representatives from Goldman Sachs, who then gave the max allowed contribution to his campaign, he took a strong stand against Wall Street Reform.

Washington Incumbent - This one might not be a big deal to everyone, but I know for some people they don't like politicians who have been in Washington forever, and Burr has been in Washington for nearly 2 decades. But after nearly 2 decades its hard to name any big Burr accomplishments.

Women's issues - He voted against Frank's anti-rape amendment which passed with many Dem & GOP votes. He also voted for domestic violence to continue as a pre-existing condition.

Gay Rights - He's against repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell and favors an amendment to the US constitution to write in a ban of gay marriage.

Environment - He tends to rate horribly here. According to Wikipedia: "Burr has generally received low ratings from environmental-protection organizations. In 2007-2008, for example, he received a rating of 0% from Environment America[17], 12% from the League of Conservation Voters, and 29% from Republicans for Environmental Protection." And he's taken plenty of cash from big oil like Haliburton, BP, and others."

Wait, is he a military obstructionist or a war-happy military supporter? I'm confused.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TELL ME MORE SPECIFICALLY WHAT TO THINK!

Burr is basically a rank-and-file dullard. "I'll vote against anything the other party suggests, even if it's a good idea."

I dunno why anyone would vote for Burr after his vote against Franken's slam-dunk bill to end business with corporations that openly condone rape.

a vote for Burr is basically just a generic "I hate Obama and all Democrats" vote. no real thought, just pullin' that straight-ticket lever.

Yeah, I agree.

But I think Burr is sleazier than your average "rank-and-file dullard."

He's a bad dude.

Do you really want to allow Obama to continue his agenda?

Here's a link to a full video of their forum from the other day:

And I agree: Burr needs to answer for his vote on the Franken amendment, regarding KBR's settlement with Jamie Leigh Jones.

In fact, anyone who plans to vote for Burr in this thread, I would be curious to know why you support his vote on that.

Earthdogg & d357r0y3r seemed to be pushing the idea that the war is the most important issue of the 2010 election in another thread.

If you really believe that, you should be voting for Elaine who opposed the President's expanded war efforts rather than Burr who says we still need to stay in Aphganistan at least several more years.

You should be voting for Republican BJ Lawson for Congress and Democrat Elaine Marshall for Senate with respect to their stances on the issue most important to you, rather than party affiliation, and I hope you will consider doing so.

I don't support Burr on that vote. And I do not agree that the war is the most important issue in the election. The most important goal is stopping pres. Obama from doing any more damage to our stalled economy.

In everything I see, Elaine Marshall blames only Bush and business for our woes. Never any scorn for Freddie/Fannie, Barney Frank, or Franklin Raines. She is clearly a big gov't candidate who will support Single-payer health care and cap-n-trade.

My Burr vote is only to help take away Obama's power.

Quote :
"The North Carolina Senate race is far from decided. Currently, Senator Richard Burr
leads Elaine Marshall 38 to 33. But with 20% of voters currently undecided the
candidates have a long way to go win this election.

Many voters have yet to form an opinion on either of the candidates. 28% of North
Carolina voters are unsure of their opinion of Senator Burr and 58% of Marshall.

While more voters know Senator Burr, more disapprove. 39% of North Carolinians give
the Senator low marks and only 34% approve of his work in Washington. The North
Carolinians who do know Marshall have a more favorable opinion than they do of the
sitting Senator: 22 to 20%."

The last few polls I mentioned had the race at 1% apart, 7% apart, 1% apart, and now this one is 5% apart. So the the incumbent definitely has the lead, and the big money backing, but this race is still close. And his pro-war and pro-bush tax cuts for the wealthy hardly make him a balanced budget kind of guy. And his big backers like Wall Street (Goldman Sachs who maxed out their contribution to him) & Big Oil (including Haliburton & BP) hardly work in his favor as we get closer to election day.

The "Bush Tax Cuts" cut taxes for everyone who paid taxes..not just the rich. The rich got a bigger tax break because they pay MOST of the taxes. A lot of jobs were created from those tax cuts.

And speaking of BP and political donations. Guess which 2008 presidential candidate received a huge contribution from BP?

All BUrr needs to do is keep tying Marshall to Obama. She is a cap n trade, Single-payer, big gov't liberal who will rubber-stamp the Obama agenda.

Burr is the one who will rubber-stamp the President's war agenda & then some, Elaine is the one who opposes it.

I had to stop watching.

...shit is painfully stupid -- the whole thing.

Politicians are just clowns pandering to a mostly uneducated and/or irrational electorate.

Say what they want to hear, and magically, you become worthy of office.

It makes me sick.

I would like to read more details about your thoughts, but you turned the debate off.

I thought whereas Elaine Marshall stumbled a lot during the first "debate," she appeared much more knowledgeable during this debate.

Richard Burr again resembled a typical career politician.

Elaine Marshall seemed more real and sincere.

Funny how "career politician" gets thrown around and/or defended by both sides whenever it is convenient.

adhere to the principles set forth by the Constitution the Declaration of Independence their religion.

Yay for 2-party democracymockery.

Could be worse

Plus, Burr has had about 20 years in Washington, and could easily pull another 20+ years. With Marshall, we aren't looking at someone looking for a lifetime career in Washington. I think that trade off helps more than whether or not someone looks like Palin.
