so I guess he's gonna do like what he did last year and play baseball in a summer league and then come back for camp in August.
6/8/2010 9:06:01 PM
Honestly I think he stays next year to play football. I know the 4th round is high (and ridiculously high considering the type of season Russell Wilson had on the diamond), but if he is still saying he's playing football then I believe him. It was pointed out on 99.9 today that if he were to make an NFL roster for 3 years at league minimum at some position then he'd still make more than if he were to toil around the minors for 10 years. If I were Russell I'd see how FB season goes and maybe even give the CFL a look, he has just been that much better at FB than baseball. He's got to sign by sometime in August though so he's got to determine if he:1) Wants to go now.2) Wants to sign, but play football.3) Not sign and either decide to try and play professional football.4) Play football and then hope to get a starting spot on the baseball team and improve his draft stock. Congrats Russell and I hope you choose whatever will ultimately benefit you in the long run.

^ jeff samardzija did it

^^ I think he'd have to get the Rockies to agree to it and maybe structure his contract around it some kind of way. The Washington QB is also doing it this year if I remember correctly.

^^ Everyone has probably seen that, but until I see him at practice I'm not going to my hopes too high. NC State shit has happened before. It also depends on how much the Rockies offer and if they're cool with him playing.[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 11:22 PM. Reason : tbdv]

in case people scan through the thread hastily and just want to know whats up:

I think Wilson is a man of his word so if he says he's coming back to the squad in the fall, then he'll be back.
6/8/2010 11:38:26 PM
that's dedication

crap what will we do if he doesn't come back??
6/9/2010 8:43:56 AM
^ i'm on the practice squad. no worries
6/9/2010 8:46:50 AM
So he's not leaving... and Archer is still around (or our defense wouldn't be good under any DC). Still screwed come fall.[Edited on June 9, 2010 at 1:21 PM. Reason : -]

the shootouts should at least be entertaining
6/9/2010 1:25:53 PM
Yeah, that Duke shootout sure was interesting. Just buckets of fun right there...Man, I hope our defense performs at least a little better for crying out loud.
6/9/2010 1:49:25 PM
Well, iirc from his defense two seasons ago what worked best was "try to get Nate Irving as close to the ball carrier as possible and see what happens"So as long as Nate Irving stays healthy we might have an average defense. No pressure on Mr. Irving though, none at all. /I still can't believe Archer has a job after that Duke game
6/9/2010 1:52:38 PM
archer = FAIL!
6/9/2010 1:58:11 PM
"Timswar" I couldnt agree with you more man, that Duke game was fucking atrocious! That was the game where I was given front row seats in the away section with douchebag duke fans, b/c my reg. seat was mistakenly given to the wrong person. Worst game ever and having to hear about every blown call, every Pack mistake, by the Dook fans was the worst! Who the hell knew they'd play there game of the year against us?? grrrrr
6/9/2010 2:32:47 PM
Who didn't have their game of the year against our defense?
6/9/2010 2:48:08 PM
USC
6/9/2010 2:52:16 PM
Yes, I suppose there was a brief moment there before our D was completely exposed. Once exposed all a team had to do was watch 10 minutes of video to learn how to take us apart. Luckily for us our coaching staff adjusted instead of just following the same plan game after game.

that sucks...hopefully he'll decide to dedicate this football season to his dad and go off...let's hope he doesn't pull a Jordan and quit the sport he dominates to play baseball.
