QoS got hampered by terrible editing and a script that wasn't completed when they went into filming. I still thought it was a fun movie, but the plot wasn't described enough and there wasn't as much dialog/character development as there should've been. I think reintroducing Q and Moneypenny is completely fine as long as they don't bring back the stupid quips and over the top gadgets with them. Watch the Connery, Dalton or Lazenby films and see how they were done well. Also I'm not sure how exactly the Craig films are much darker than anything done in Dalton's 2 films, Connery's first 2 films (Goldfinger and Thunderball were awesome, but I wouldn't call them dark) or Lazenby's film.

that link doesn't even have any direct quotes from MGM. It's basically twisted the reports last week from AICN that production is still at a standstill, but there hasn't been an official cancellation

Quote :
"What’s the difference between ’suspended indefinitely’ and officially dead? When it comes to James Bond and the planned twenty-third movie featuring the character, it can be difficult to tell. We’ve known for months that EON Productions had suspended development on the film thanks to MGM’s financial troubles, but now there’s a report circulating that the film is officially dead. But is it really?

To be honest, I’m not really certain that things are any different now with the twenty-third James Bond film than they were a couple months back when EON Productions said that development on the film had been posponed indefinitely.

Harry at AICN has a non-sourced report that the film is dead, but beyond that all we’ve got from EON is a new statement given to the UK tabloid The Mirror:

Read more: Is James Bond Finally Defeated, or Are Reports of His Death Slightly Exaggerated?

We do not know when development will resume and cannot comment further at this stage.

Which sounds to me like a statement that means exactly the same thing as what we last heard from the company, which was:

Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23? indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of ‘Bond 23.’

The Mirror bolsters its account with statements from a ‘glum insider’ who says “Members of the production crew have been told the Bond film has been canned…There is a lot of bad feeling as a lot of time, money and hard work has already gone into this.” But this is the Mirror, so that ‘insider’ could be just about anyone, including someone who happened to be inside a building when the statement was given. Not really to be trusted, the Mirror.

So what’s really different now? Besides the fact that a couple of months have passed with no improvement for MGM, not much.

Bottom line: MGM remains strapped and Bond remains on hold. Until MGM’s situation is resolved or the Bond rights are sold, nothing is going to happen. From all accounts, it sounds as if EON would like nothing more to be free of MGM so that a new Bond film can actually get made. Is Sam Mendes off the project? Like many of the people attached to The Hobbit, he can’t wait around forever, so I wouldn’t be surprised. But at this point, without more official comment, either from EON or Mendes, this news is really just a repeat of what we’ve already known.

there's no way in hell any company would give up on one of the most profitable IPs ever. its fucking stupid to even consider. if mgm can't get the cash to make the movie, they will sell or lease the rights to get themselves out of the hole.

I'm just scared its going to go into hiatus for 15 years and Craig will be too old for the role, leading to an epic battle between Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson to see who will be the next 007.

^Apparently there are only two English actors in the world that will be old enough to play James Bond in 15 yrs.

^^&^^^While I have no doubt that "Bond" will go on I'm extremely worried about Daniel Craig as Bond and the development of the storyline. To lose those IMO would be tragic.

While I care about Bond this is what worries me:

Quote :
"MGM’s woes have also caused numerous delays to Peter Jackson’s version of The Hobbit. Not only were the delays responsible for scaring off Guillermo del Toro as director but as we reported yesterday, Ian McKellan might not return as Gandalf. "

They wait much longer (eg couple more months) they are gonna lose the look of a lot more of what they want with characters and the ideas of Jackson in general.

I'm chalking that report up to just being tabloid trash, but it is kind of worrying. MGM's financial situation is taking forever to get any sort of progress. I just don't see how they can go on looking for a financial backer for the company and/or a buyer for the company and just let the production of Bond 23 and the Hobbit sit in waiting. Both of those films are their big aces in the hole if they can ever get out of this thing, they can't want these 2 films to have many more problems going forward.

They had Craig signed on with Mendes as the director. I don't want to lose that combination for the next film. If this goes on another long delay for the franchise I think Craig is lost as it looked like he would only be the right age for about 4 movies anyway. That whole Quantum organization storyline could be done too if this doesn't hurry up.

"Um, excuse me? I'm the OP...you must be confused.

All you people criticizing the new DC Bond movies, have you ever read the original books? B/c they're not "spoofs"

I'm a diehard fan and love all the Bond movies, and especially the new ones. I think I've seen Casino Royale at least 10 times, and probably 7-8 for Quantum of Solace"

my bad, meant the original poster of the comment that was quoted

Quote :
"I really don't think the last 2 Bond films have been dark at all. They've been more like the books and more like the early movies. They need to get more of the women back in them, but they cut out some of the ridiculous stuff like invisible cars that helped to kill the Brosnan era post-Goldeneye. I wouldn't mind them bringing some more cars and gadgets back into it, but they don't have to use the dumb shit that was always in Brosnan's movies."

right, I don't think they were trying to be dark, just more human and legitimate

A friend of mine had an idea for a Bond movie where James Bond goes broke and has to go to the bank to take out a loan. It would be sad, but he would be really smart alecky the whole time.

Not cancelled. Still postponed until MGM either sells it or finds a buyer for the studio.

I can understand MGM being reluctant to sell it b/c it is a moneymaking franchise, but fuck those assholes if they drag it down with them through bankrupcy!
