-half-squats with shit tons of weight

-half bench presses with shit tons of weight

-screaming like someone has your testicles in a vise on every single rep (making some noise is fine--I'm talking about that stupid asshole who yells on every damned rep. Counting your reps out loud at a bellowing volume also counts. Fuck you.)

-when there are a fucking ton of exercise bikes and elliptical machines, but not a single rowing machine

-when there are all kinds of modern-art looking, crooked pull-up bars, but not a single plain-jane, straight pull-up bar to be found.

-when the staff tries to close the place down or run patrons out a second before closing time

-watching people work out with not enough weight to even tax their muscles. Sit at home and watch TV instead.

Is there a point to that? Lately I've seen a number of guys lower it to several inches above their chest and then push it back up.

lol. Half push-ups too. If your chest doesn't graze the floor or your arms don't lock out it doesn't count. I watched two guys face off in a pushup contest where I doubt either one of them dropped their chest 4" the whole time. Sure you can knock out sets of 50 when you're not really doing them. If you're going to get on the floor and do the exercise you might as well do it right. (Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are plenty of people here who can knock out 50 consecutive real push ups.)

So true. I really wish my gym had a few Concept 2s. I'm keeping my eyes open on Craigslist for one.

I was about to add to my post that "You're not actually working out if you're reading a magazine", but I figured that some of those people might do real workouts on some days and choose lazy workouts over times when they might be plopped on the couch watching tv. In that case I guess it's better than being on the couch.

Yes.

In all seriousness though, is she a stripper? It's really the only way those heels she wears make any sense.

The fact that there are barely any squat racks in most gyms, yet a ton of places to curl. On top of that, if you're not doing like 100+ lbs, there are probably straight bars you can use instead.

sidenote: i think my legs are weird or i just have awful coordination because running on the elliptical seems so awkward to me. i don't like it. i dunno what my deal is but whenever i've gotten on one my motions seem really rigid and everyone else looks so fluid.

in my gym we have 1 squat rack and 4 power racks along with 2 dead lift stations. most people squat in the power racks leaving the squat rack wide open.

i typically dont mind people that do curls in the power racks or squat racks because these are guys that are curling 115 lbs + (with good form)

i see most people doing their curls out in the open, because we have two sets of pre-weighted barbels ranging from 20 lbs to 100 lbs. (a set of ez curl bars and a set of straight bars)

what bothers me more than curls in the squat rack is when someone rocks their whole body through the curling motion starting with their hips.

At least at Lifestyle, the fountain's water pressure are tied to one another, so if I start drinking, there's a dip in the pressure of yours, which is no big deal.

If one person stops drinking though, the other person gets blasted in the face by the returning water pressure.

People who fill up their water bottles on the normal-height water fountain.... Seriously it should be a gym rule to fill up your water bottles using the midget water fountain.

Middle age women who spend an hour on the treadmill or stairclimber but lock out their arms on the side rails so that hardly any of their body weight is in play.

Saw this again today. Putting 80 minutes on the stairclimber and then doing the minimal work to run up the calorie counter with minimal amount of your body weight.

when I go to get a drink from the fountain, and they hijack my machine, then don't want to let me work in

also, people who don't want to let you work in, and then proceed to spend 3-5 minutes between each set sitting there doing nothing (or worse: texting)

old people who walk side by side by side on the indoor track when im running (I guess its my karma for being an asshole in the left lane while driving)

girls who wear the tight tight stuff, then look pissed when you glance over, stare, walk into a wall, etc

something that doesn't annoy me: the really hot girl on the sit-up machine with baggy shorts and no underwear, none of the guys have the heart to tell her

Yes to this... I approached a machine one day and was told that it was in use. I used a similar machine instead and did all three of my sets before I saw him do any.

Also, there is a guy at my gym that cannot keep his mouth shut during his workout. Between the loud grunts and straining noises, begonias and I hear stuff like "I'm a boss!" quite frequently.

This guy at my gym always tries to workout while I'm working out and he'll randomly spot me and gets awkwardly close. Or he'll take the squat rack while I'm benching and then I have to wait to finish my workout. I told him it's rude to not put stuff back how he found it, but he obviously doesn't agree as he leaves stuff laying around. But I really hate it when he constantly smacks me on the ass because I have on yoga shorts. Also, my dogs and cats like to stand in the squat rack with me, so I can't leave the garage door open.

I found a new gym right on the way home for work.

I went in at 6 o'clock, and it was just like 8 really huge dudes who are evidently obsessed with bodybuilding. They definitely smelled bad. I'm pumped to join next month.

As for my current gym, I'm excited about tonight. Nobody goes on Friday nights.

Was doing cardio on the elliptical this morning when some dude set up right next to me and started cutting silent farts the entire time. And the worst part was he picked the machine that's right next to the wall mounted fan, so every time he let loose it would carry that stench across the entire row.

I know I should be more patient, but it's tough when a dude takes 25 minutes on the only squat/bench rack to rep less than 100 pounds during peak hours at the gym.

So what's up with that cat who, while using an entirely different machine or bench, thinks its ok for his towel/water bottle/key ring/phone to take up another bench? Motherfucker, pick your shit up and move it with you. There are other people that need to use the equipment.

And another thing... I almost murdered this bitch the other week who was going sans headphones, and playing her music through her phones speakerphone throughout her workout.

Some woman stopped me while I was rowing to let me know that she couldn't use the rower because it was too easy for her. I was like, "Cool. That's awesome!"

Later, she followed me into the stretching room and started showing me ab exercises while I was tryna stretch. I wanted to be nice so I followed along with her. Then she claimed my form was all wrong and started putting her hands on me. She even had me do squats while she rubbed and smacked my rear.

I haven't wanted to murder someone so bad in a very long time, but instead I thanked her for all her help. As I was leaving, she told me I was lazy and said that she was going to be in the gym for another couple hours. I sat in the car and played on the phone for a minute until she left so I could go back in.

I want to do a violent crime on her.

I have been going to the gym after work lately, so I've met some new people. Mainly these super-jacked guys who take over the entire weight lifting section. There's about six of them, and only one lifts at a time while the others talk about shit and tell the guy lifting to put on more weight. But with so many people in a small section, it's really hard to get stuff done without feeling like I have to dance around them my whole workout. #awkward
