While these rules don't apply to all hospitals (more reason to repeal DOMA) & doesn't cover all situations, say, if a spouse was unconscious when taken to the hospital & didn't designate someone in advance (more reason to repeal DOMA), its nice that its finally about to go into effect.The new rules, which allow anyone, not just gay couples, to designate non-family members as their allowed visitor, were just officially published. So this long awaited measure will kick-in 60 days from this publication of the new rules (early 2011). (as a side note, one of the 3 main anti-DOMA court cases going right now,the prop 8 case in Cali, gets underway in 2 & a half weeks, & it was just announced that it'll be televised on that most exciting of networks, c-span)[Edited on November 18, 2010 at 3:38 AM.
