Maryland-Big 10 rumors are picking up steam.
6/10/2010 10:08:46 AM
This shit is ridiculous. I don't know how I feel about it.Why couldn't the Big-10/11 just pick up someone like Utah or Boise State?? And the Pac-10 do something similar??I just can't get over the fact that the Big-10 might cease to exist.
6/10/2010 10:12:26 AM
Colorado to Pac-XX officially. Announcement from school at noon (I assume Mountain time).
6/10/2010 11:39:39 AM
i was thinking the 6 defectors would all have a joint announcement ... guess they will do it individually
6/10/2010 11:42:20 AM
I dont see the Maryland to Big 10.Or rather, I hope to god it doesnt happen. the last thing the ACC needs is to be viewed as weak. But how does an original member of the ACC leave. The ACC is nothing like the Big 12 because we share money evenly and we dont have the rifts the Big 12 has.
6/10/2010 11:56:44 AM
6/10/2010 11:59:07 AM
I just thought how great it is that Lee Fowler won't be making any of the decisions if this somehow turns into the SEC plundering the ACC.
6/10/2010 11:59:09 AM
^^ there were rifts between USC and the ACC.....
6/10/2010 11:59:52 AM
When you make a new organizaton, you need to go to maximize the profit and promotion factor. Put together teams based on good marketing straetegy. This is what ive decided i would do.-the ELITES (big time teams) will be Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, Florida Staet, LSU, Alabama, Tennnisee, USC, Olahoma, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech -the CITY (big city teams) will be Boston College, Miami, UCLA, Chicago, Washington, all New York teams, any team that plays in a big time pro city-TRADITIONALS (big time rivalry and tradition) will be UNC, Duke, Wake, Syracuse, UCon, Georgetown, Penn State, Pittsburg, Philly, Virginia, more old school teams-the HEAT SEEKERS (everyone else) will be the teams looking to make a move and move up to one of those 3 leagues by either getting really good, getting a bigger city, or better rivalries. sorry, but nc staet is lacking and has to go here.to encourage competition and more reason to promote and grow and move up and expand, the league you make it into determines your shoe contract. ELITES get Nike, THE CITY gets Reebok, and TRADITIONALS get Adidas. HEATSEEKERS have to move up to get the big time contracts.
6/10/2010 12:14:16 PM
I like how you don't hesitate to have teams on opposite coasts in the same conference...those are gonna be some long bus-rides though
6/10/2010 12:17:52 PM
^^ quality post
6/10/2010 12:21:20 PM
never heard of Philadelphia Univ.
6/10/2010 12:24:26 PM
I like how Wake Forest gets in the TRADITIONALS but nc staet doesn't
6/10/2010 12:26:47 PM
HEAT SEEKERS lololololololololol
6/10/2010 12:28:06 PM
this could turnout to be an epic fail for college athletics
6/10/2010 12:33:44 PM
Let's speculate on who the ACC addsi dont see any way it gets torn apart BigXII styleCuse, UConn, Pitt, ECU (ha no srsly...not rly), WVU?[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 12:36 PM. Reason : ]
6/10/2010 12:34:51 PM
memphis
6/10/2010 12:38:06 PM
I would like to see South Carolina come to the ACC.
6/10/2010 12:41:27 PM
WVU would fit nicely location-wise and they have really nice football and bball programsIt would never happen in a million years, but I wish we could pick up UT, Vandy, and Kentucky from the SEC and then take Kansas to make 16.[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 12:45 PM. Reason : .]
6/10/2010 12:44:48 PM
i dont think anything will happen to existing SEC teams except for the rumors about Maryland, the SEC and ACC will retain its teams and probably add the remnants of Big East/BigXIIV
6/10/2010 12:44:59 PM
I don't want remnants. They can keep Missouri and whoever the hell else they have
6/10/2010 12:46:48 PM
i doubt any formerly BigXII teams go to the ACC ... geographically ridiculousi term the Big East teams as remnants, but a lot think the Big East and ACC may fuse to make a 16 team leaguethat's why i listed the 4 teams i did some posts back (those aren't remnants)
6/10/2010 12:48:50 PM
dont act like the ACC is some football powerhouse. The ACC and Big Ten will divide up the Big East
6/10/2010 12:48:55 PM
the only exception to the acc footprint that makes sense is WVa. can't really see us adding anyone like kansas, UT, etc. i would bet we add uconn, cuse, rutgers, and wva, assuming none of the acc schools defect anywhere
6/10/2010 12:49:07 PM
And texas goin to the pac-25 isnt ridiculous
6/10/2010 12:49:51 PM
ACC needs to just try to pick up the pieces of what will be left of the Big East football schools once the other conferences are done gathering who they want.
6/10/2010 12:50:00 PM
i'd think they would try to add Pitt over Rutgers, ACC does still value its basketball quality
6/10/2010 12:50:15 PM
6/10/2010 12:58:59 PM
I agree Dweedle in fact thats prolly the ACC's first priority
6/10/2010 1:00:48 PM
If it gets us closer to a playoff.4 conferences with 16 teams each; 2 divisions made up of 8 teams in each conferenceRound 1: The two teams with the best records in each division play for a conference championship appearanceRound 2: Conference championship game, winner goes to national semi-finalRound 3: One team representing each mega-conference play for an appearance in the national championship game. East vs. west.Round 4: A real championship game.[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 1:09 PM. Reason : -]
6/10/2010 1:09:01 PM
Saw this on PP"We need to offer UCONN, PITT, WVU and SU today and be done with it.Southern DivisionSTATEUNCDUKEWFCLEMSONGTFSUUVA Northern DivisionVTMiamiBCMarylandUCONNPITTWVUSU This is really pretty much the old ACC and the old Big East minus some basketball schools. You could really run it like two subconferences and I think everyone would be happy because if done right, the old ACC could have home and home conference games in basketball."I like it, I would switch UVA and Miami though[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 3:09 PM. Reason : damn formatting]
6/10/2010 3:05:52 PM
That is an interesting concept.Absorb enough big east schools where you can divide them by conference in divisions or at least play on the old rivalries in the big east.I like it[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 3:10 PM. Reason : dsa]
6/10/2010 3:08:46 PM
yeah, why do they have miami in the northern division
6/10/2010 3:20:14 PM
UVA's been around in the ACC longer I guess
6/10/2010 3:23:03 PM
^^you ever been to Miami?it's okay, but it's like you died and woke up in Jew heaven[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 3:26 PM. Reason : goodfellas]
6/10/2010 3:23:21 PM
how bout pick up university of oxford and put it in the dixie division
6/10/2010 3:33:47 PM
Colorado just joined the PAC-10.
6/10/2010 3:44:41 PM
And so it begins.
6/10/2010 3:58:33 PM
I think the ACC might not take WVU for academic reasons. I mean I think WVU would be a great addition but I don't think it will happen.
6/10/2010 4:21:53 PM
look, i know you people are stuck in the OLD SCHOOL of sports but I am from the new cutting edge of sports. theres so many UNTAPPED POTENTIAL DEALS AND IDEAS for things out there. ill ask you this: what would be more profitable: themed leagues formed around common brand identities or just putting together people who live close by? who cares? Give THE FANS a fight for something real. COMPETITION. not just unimagenative garbage like playing only your neigbors.it only works to play a near team if you have a RIVAL. my plan allows for that and then some.we need to exploit competitive potential identities and branding. i guess noone here is a busnessman.
6/10/2010 4:32:16 PM
dude shut the fuck upseriously
6/10/2010 4:35:33 PM
NC State to the SEC. We start a new rivalry with Kentucky.
6/10/2010 4:38:56 PM
6/10/2010 4:40:14 PM
this shit is so crazy. It just feels like they are totally changing the face of college athletics without completely thinking about the ramifications.and HOOPS MALONE I normally like your posts because of their inherent stupidity, but this idea you have this time is terrible, stop bringing it up
6/10/2010 4:42:58 PM
^ agreed. Now that it's been put in motion, it's like everyone is scrambling around making fast decisions trying to find a chair before the music stops.
6/10/2010 4:55:57 PM
^thats exactly whats happening....nobody wants to be left off the dance floor so there is going to be an extreme panic! The acc may be forced to do a lot of things it doesnt want to do if the shit goes down. I don't think any conference is going to be able to stay true to its traditionalist values during this clusterfuck!
6/10/2010 5:01:42 PM
ATH just said that TxA&M might go to SECbah
6/10/2010 5:22:29 PM
Dunno why anyone would want to go to the SEC and get their shit pushed in every season in football
6/10/2010 5:27:19 PM
EVERYONE JUST CALM DOWN!
6/10/2010 5:29:14 PM
