yeah I have heard the wait for Kuma's can just be totally ridiculous. we are thinking about going on like, a tuesday at 2:30-3 in the afternoon to see if we can get in and out with some haste.
4/16/2010 11:04:17 AM
Man, i've always wanted to go to chicago and check out a chicago blues style bar...see any of those with live bands?
4/16/2010 11:15:17 AM
kuma's is DELICIOUS but I went on a weds night when the wait was ONLY 2 hours... I tried going with OOT friends on a saturday MORNING at 11:30 and the wait was 3.5 hours. not worth it. we got gino's instead.. I love gino's

I absolutely LOVE Chicago! Try to get tix to a Second City comedy show (well worth it), Giordano's has some daaaank pizza, the Art Institute is incredible but it takes up a LOT of time so plan accordingly. I was there for the 4th a few years ago during the Taste of Chicago festival so if there is anything like that going on during your visit check it out. The next time I go back I want to take a water tour of the architecture...dorky and lame, I know, but there is just SO much to see. Have FUN!

actually i've heard good things about the water tour of arch thing...i kinda want to go on it.also, there is kayaking on the chicago river downtown and i think that would be awesome too.

Go see a show at Second City, iO, or Annoyance.

in Chicago for a week. never stayed in The Loop before. can any of you recommend a can't-miss restaurant or bar? (someplace a little on a classy side) thanks!
9/8/2013 9:55:30 PM
What type of food/scene are you looking for?
9/8/2013 10:32:51 PM
I've done everything there is to do in Chicago, but like I said I've never spent any time around the Loop. Just looking for a good sit down place to eat near my hotelrestaurant: American food, classy-ish, not family-friendlybar: very close to the JW Marriott, must have lots of whores, good selection of scotch[Edited on September 8, 2013 at 10:39 PM. Id go to untitled. Its not super close to the JW but it is solid.Food-wise, i like quartino (lots of hot chicks there typically) which is tapas-style italian. You could go have a burger at Au Cheval in the west loop. People say they have the best burger in the city (it is a french place). A lot of the other ones id really recommend require a res > a week before. Sierra tavern in river north is fairly hot right now as it just opened a couple months ago. Tons of hot chicks there on thurs-sat. Not sure about other weekdaysThere is not a lot open in the loop after 7pm.

Untitled looks exactly what I'm looking for. thanks. walk or take the orange line?Siena Tavern?[Edited on September 8, 2013 at 10:59 PM. Reason : m]

Hit the brown line to Lincoln Park. You'll find the nightlife and scene much younger and livelier than The Loop or on North Michigan Ave (which is surprisingly quiet at night). I get off at the Diversy station, then head north up Broadway.[Edited on September 8, 2013 at 11:28 PM. Reason : .]
9/8/2013 11:27:08 PM
thanks for the suggestion. we really need to keep it between loop and river north. if we went to Lincoln Park, there's no way I'd make my 7am breakfast meetingsWe are trying to go up to Evanston on our free night (Wednesday) to catch a show at Stage
9/8/2013 11:53:10 PM
It'd be a decent walk to untitled. Just take a cab. Its like a $7 cab ride.Yea i meant Siena Tavern
9/8/2013 11:55:46 PM
Take the green line down to cottage grove, and say sup to my boy common.
9/9/2013 12:10:52 AM
I live in Chicago, you guys pretty much covered everything. Untitled is one of my favorite places. If you like jazz music definitely make a trip to the Green mill in uptown, its right by where I live (take the red line and get off at Lawrence). Also, if you're into hipster bars, do bar hop in Wicker Park. Bar hop in this order -Arcade EmporiumNick's Beer GardenBig StarViolet Hour (Only if you're with a chick)Flat Iron
9/9/2013 12:24:15 AM
And then hit up Flash Tacos at 4 am.....mostly for crappy tacos and hail marry hookup sessions.[Edited on September 9, 2013 at 12:37 AM. Reason : ]

definitely won't be doing Wicker Park, but thanks. this will be a handful of businessmen, after a long day of meetings, looking to grab a nice meal and then have a few drinks. upscale and somewhat classy is the key. of course if they want to slum it after dinner, I'll be able to tell them where to go
9/9/2013 12:34:08 AM
you will find the best food of chicago outside of the loop and river north. I doubt you've "done everything there is to do in Chicago".check out tripadvisor though, it seems up your alley
9/9/2013 2:54:52 PM
I definitely haven't eaten everywhere, that's for sure. Considering all but one of my countless trips to Chicago have been with family, our dining experiences have been limited to Uno, Due, Gino's, Hot Doug's, Harry Caray's, etc

You might like some of the restaurants on Randolph Street's Restaurant Row which you could probably walk to. It's almost as expensive and pretentious as eating downtown, but at least you're getting out of the loop which is pretty dead during weeknights.http://www.cntraveler.com/daily-traveler/chicago/2013/05/photos-randolph-street-chicago-restaurants_slideshow_item0_1
