well no shit.

Yeah, magsafe is cool until the battery in your MPB stops working. Now it's too damn easy to accidentally unplug my laptop which results in instant shut off. On top of that, my cat has developed an affinity for unplugging it with her teeth. It used to just be a cute/minor annoyance before my battery stopped working, now it's a goddamn nightmare.

the only thing about mac laptops that i want on my pc laptop is the magsafe connector...after a year of gentle use, i can almost always feel my power port begin to get loose in a scary wayi could stand for every laptop to no longer include a VGA port, and displayport is pretty useless in with HDMI being as prevalent as it is...you can change HDMI to pretty much anything, so why is anything BUT HDMI even necessary?
4/21/2010 10:08:31 AM
^ the idea is that DisplayPort is replacing VGA and DVI for computers. Dell already widely supports it, too, so seems like it's gaining traction. Besides, more people are going to plug their laptops into projectors and monitors, and DP suits that need well.

Looks like Apple is closing the gap on replacing Microsoft as the number 2 most valuable company in the US. Record increase in their stock today after Jobs hinted at new products this year.

Rumor is that Apple is interested in acquiring ARM holdings, probably a controlling interest allowing them to control what competitors can use ARM.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 2:18 PM. Reason : .]
4/22/2010 2:16:44 PM
^Voice of reason disputes the claim:http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/04/whos-buying-arm-not-apple-not-intel-nobody.ars
4/23/2010 2:18:43 AM
Certainly didn't stop ARM stocks from benifiting. The difference between this rumor and all the other buyout rumors is that this would make sense and benefit Apple greatly not to mention they throw ARM a good chunk of business already.

Although this isn't Apple, the tech/idea is patented by Apple therefore a lawsuit may ensue http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/23/cypress-touchscreens-track-hovering-fingers-make-devices-even-m/

I was hoping for an 'App Store' for Mac OS X but not as the only means to get software.
4/23/2010 4:53:03 PM
Rixstep looks like a company trying to peddle software. That article isn't worth the electrons transmitting it until we hear corroboration from other realistic sources.

how do we feel about the magic mouse? is it basically like having a mouse with the macbook pad on the top?i havent used one yet, but if it works like i think it does, ill be buying one soon. just wondered how people who had it liked it
5/11/2010 12:03:34 PM
Not exactly no. The touch scroll works really well. But that's all it's used for.It actually takes away features because you no longer have a way to use expose or show desktop unless you set hot corners. Right click works as before. [Edited on May 11, 2010 at 12:17 PM. Reason : .]

thinking about getting an i7 imac...is there going to be a refresh at WWDC, or is now as good a time as any to buy it
6/2/2010 9:28:13 AM
The MBP was the last to get refreshed I believe and iMacs getting the iX processors. I believe the WWDC will be more focused on the iPhone. I believe they're even holding off on the new Apple TV as to not steal any spotlight from the iPhone.
6/2/2010 10:38:45 AM
yeah, i figured the top of the line 27" i7 should be OK, if anything they might phase out core 2 duos in some of the lower end imacs. only thing i'm worried about is the possibility of apple switching out the 4850 for a 55xx GPU, giving the option of SSD, and/or adopting blu-ray (lol). but either way i bet they wouldn't ship until later in the fall and i need a system now.
6/2/2010 3:17:46 PM
The nice thing about Apple Computers is that you can still sell it for a significant amount down the road even when newer better models are out. I would not be too concerned, I would wait until June 7th at the very latest just in case.

Apple's newest innovation:The outright lie.http://www.apple.com/html5/Apparently, only Safari can display HTML5.
6/6/2010 8:04:30 PM
^ From their page:
6/6/2010 8:09:08 PM
Where does it say safari is the only browser capable of html5?
6/6/2010 8:11:58 PM
it implies that at this time it is the only browser compatible
6/6/2010 8:29:45 PM
Safari is the only browser currently capable of correctly displaying all of those demos.
6/6/2010 8:38:00 PM
Yeah I clicked on one of those examples and i LOL'd at how it required Safari to view. "let's push HTML5 because it's open" my ass. Really helping your cause against flash there, apple.
6/6/2010 8:39:01 PM
What do you mean HTML5 is "open"
6/6/2010 8:52:08 PM
^^^ That doesn't make it HTML5 compatible, it makes it proprietary.I use Google Chrome, which has much greater support for HTML5 that any other browser out there, and surprise surprise, I can't open those demos. Not because my browser isn't HTML5 compliant, oh no. But because my browser's user-agent is not Safari.I don't see how you can misinterpret that at all. Apple is patently lying to people about HTML5 support to push their own browser. The problem is, the people smart enough to look for a new browser are smart enough to see through that sort of horseshit.[Edited on June 6, 2010 at 8:58 PM. Reason : .]It might not be a big deal to you, but there's a possibility that this sort of behavior pushes web development into a totally stupid direction way too quickly for a immature platform and brings back the days of IE6 level idiocy.[Edited on June 6, 2010 at 9:00 PM. They're pushing Safari, not HTML5I don't see why this is a big dealAnyway, the vast majority of users don't know wtf HTML5 is, and those who do are smart enough to see what's going on here[Edited on June 6, 2010 at 9:03 PM. Reason : man shit your edit is my post]
