Yeah cause Florida International is on the same level as a couple ACC tobacco road teams, right?I bet you kids respected that Zeke put in the work at Indiana and for Detroit though, moreso than some guy who has never played organized athletics in his lifeBut you'll probably deny that fact too with a witty irrelevant analogyYou're right about the David Thompson thing...kids nowadays wouldn't even know how to type his name in a youtube search box]
4/7/2010 5:36:53 PM
The entire reason he's at such a shit school is that no one takes him seriously enough as a coach to give him a decent gig in the first place
4/7/2010 5:38:53 PM
4/7/2010 5:42:22 PM
Well Gaudio was hired off the bench because Prosser diedLowe was hired because Herb quit and we couldn't get anybody super-eliteI still think most kids would say State is a better job/school/bball program than WakeJust because kids nowadays know Lebron and Kobe better than Jordan and Magic doesn't mean UNC and Michigan State don't still get good talent. But it also doesn't mean they're completely ignorant to anything that happened before they were born.Hey come play for UCLA, we had Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton lead us to titles. Who the fuck are they? Come on now, Lew Alcindor? Kareem Abdul Jabaar? oh yeah, he was in Airplane
4/7/2010 5:44:17 PM
I think a lot of people agree that they don't think Gaudio is a good coach, but this is pretty shocking news to me.If we got shit for "running off" Sendek, Wake better get a whole bunch of shit for firing a guy who was 61-31 (I think) in his first three years.
4/7/2010 5:45:20 PM
The NC State job is much better than Wake. I don't care how old the history is, we're a better job. Better fanbase, history, facilities, and financial backing. And Gaudio was given the head coaching job becuase it was a "softer" move when you're coach suddenly dies. You don't want to tell the rest of his staff...'welp, sucks for you guys! See ya!'. That, and Prosser/Gaudio had the #3 recruiting class in the country already signed.
4/7/2010 5:49:18 PM
^^ My thoughts exactly. Additionally, given Clemson's basketball pedigree in comparison with our's, I would say Purnell was to them what Herb was to us. So, they'll get shit for "firing" their Herb too, right?... Fuck the media.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 5:50 PM. Reason : extra ^]
4/7/2010 5:50:41 PM
Purnell never won a single NCAA tourney game. Sendek was > .500 for us and won 80% of his first round games... totally different. And he left for a HUGE raise... Clemson didn't want him to.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 5:52 PM. Reason : x]
4/7/2010 5:52:10 PM
This is why I love TWW...thread is about Gaudio's firing...I ask an innocent question a few posts inEntire thread changes direction

big time down year inc. for wake next year..losing alot of players.
4/7/2010 6:03:28 PM
who would have thought wake fired their coach before nc state, but hey sidney lowe can maybe make one ncaa in five years (possibly as a greater than 16 seed) and probably get a three year extension[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 6:10 PM. Reason : k]
4/7/2010 6:07:16 PM
How does this affect Wake's recruiting class?...IIRC they had a top-10 class coming in...

wow, surprised at this.wonder who they're looking at...

^^The only person you could even argue is Durant, and he couldn't lead Texas past what, the Sweet 16?
4/7/2010 7:17:18 PM
Pretty sure Texas lost in the second round that year.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 7:32 PM. Reason : .]

looks like neither of us was right, they lost in the 2nd roundhttp://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney07/bracket[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 7:33 PM. Reason : ^haha you post editing bastard]
4/7/2010 7:33:05 PM
I knew it was either the first or second round because I had them going to the Elite Eight that year and they totally fucked my bracket...that's when I learned to never bet on Rick Barnes.

TEAMS!!!PLAYERS!!!Beasley was the best player in basketball his one year at KSU.BUT BUT BUT HE DIDN'T WIN IT ALL!!!!Melo is good, but how many basketball gods are there? Kobe, LBJ, KG, and Shaq are more god like. How many NCAA crowns do they share between them?]
4/8/2010 8:30:44 AM
the funny thing is that out of the Rose-Beasley draft, Russell Westbrook will probably turn out to be the best player

The State and Wake jobs are on a pretty even level. The Wake job might be a little bit better because of Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, and they've had significantly more national exposure over the past 5-10 years than we have (ranked in the top 5...and I believe elite 8 or sweet 16 one year when they lost to jameer nelson/delonte west led st. joes).Wake has had their lapses, but we've been in the ACC cellar for the past three years. Those are the relevant facts. Anything else is just you trying to make a baseless argument for your team because you're a homer.
4/8/2010 11:20:03 AM
bringing up national championships makes you a homerwinning multiple national titles is baseless]
4/8/2010 11:21:09 AM
Hardly. Lots of us are arguing for Wake Forest, and we're surely not homers for them.
4/8/2010 11:21:18 AM
the funniest thing was when I was called a Michigan State homer because I posted that the Big-10 was good this year
4/8/2010 11:22:49 AM
Tom Izzo, Bo Ryan, Evan Turner and Robbie Hummel are goodThe rest of the Big Ten is garbage
4/8/2010 11:24:41 AM
5^ Such a fucking troll when it comes to State. Are you even a fan? Our pedigree is something that makes our coaching position more attractive than WF. Yeah Wake has been better recently, but they've yet to accomplish anything monumental in basketball. Plus the other arguments regarding facilities and money put State even further ahead.[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 11:26 AM. Reason : dgf]
4/8/2010 11:25:47 AM
Purdue is No. 1 preseason next year according to KatzI'll have to reserve judgement on that[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 11:28 AM. Reason : x]
4/8/2010 11:26:11 AM
^ yeah I think the Big Ten was better than it got credit for this year. The style of play in the Big Ten is just so boring that it gives the impression that the teams are unathletic and sorry (just like in football except in football the Big Ten IS overrated and sucks in big games).
4/8/2010 11:39:54 AM
Agreed about Wake's national exposure >>> State's recently. After all, they were the #1 team in the country last year for a week or so. Even it is was shortlived, that's pretty darn impressive.
4/8/2010 11:41:29 AM
Is there any chance Lowe will take the Wake's job?
4/8/2010 11:41:50 AM
Sure. And then Roy Williams will take the State job.
4/8/2010 11:45:58 AM
Cincinatti, Oklahoma State, San Francisco, and Louisville have all won multiple national championships. Save Louisville, none of those teams are big on the national scene anymore nobody gives a fuck about what those teams accomplished in the past. I don't see those other teams pulling in nationally ranked recruits and bad-ass coaches because of their multiple championships in the past. Maybe ours have been a little more recent?? It's still been over 25 years since the last one that still get mentioned only because we were a Cinderella team.Oh wait...we had David Thompson, the best college basketball player ever. San Francisco had Bill FUCKING Russel. It might have been 50 years ago, but I'd put money on more kids these days knowing Bill Russel than David Thompson...and that hasn't helped them a bit.The bottom line is that nobody gives a fuck how many championships you won 30 years ago or amazing players on your team 40 years ago. It matters how much you've won recently and who you've put in the NBA recently. If you play in a big conference and have good facilities, that helps as well. I'm not going to claim to be some fucking superfan...because that's just stupid. Anybody on here who says they are a better fan than someone else is just sad. I've been a fan since I could remember being old enough to watch the games. My grandfather was a wrestler and graduate of NC State and was in person to watch both our championships. I'm just realistic. There are maybe 5% of State fans who are truly realistic. That's not saying 95% are ridiculous homers...but there are ones that are definitely worse than others (and most of those populate the message boards).Take your rose colored glasses off and realize that most of the people outside of NC State don't give a shit about NC State. That can all change if we actually win something significant in the near future...but until then, those are the facts.
4/8/2010 11:50:09 AM
The real basketball god doesn't go to college if he doesn't have to. Lololol at the notion that wake is a better job than ours. There's a reason that you talk about paul, duncan, and howard instead of 1974 or 1983 when you talk the wake job. They've never won anything and a couple nba superstars are all they have.
