no, not this years team. I'm talking about next year. Having a full offseason to prepare with a true PG coming in will make them better.
4/7/2010 4:15:34 PM
The Ewing TheoryWe'll see next yearI say they regress
4/7/2010 4:15:53 PM
here's katz's top 25 for next year.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=50607521. Purdue2. Duke3. Butler (says no way Stevens leaves this year)...19. UNCVirginia Tech and Miami are consideration teams. ACC needs to step it up.
4/7/2010 4:36:58 PM
Kentucky losing 5 players.
4/7/2010 7:02:29 PM
orton could have been THAT DUDE at Kentucky next season
4/7/2010 7:29:47 PM
The ACC is going to have another down year. Luckily, their last down year brought the conference a national title.
4/7/2010 7:57:29 PM
man, looks like another mediocre year for the ncaa. the 2008-09 season was stacked with great teams, this past year there were a bunch of good teams but no great teams. Looks like next year will have the same problem.I hope this trend doesnt continue with all of these players leaving early
4/7/2010 8:34:23 PM
Katz is such a douche:
4/8/2010 10:16:04 AM
peace out Ed Davis
4/12/2010 3:44:02 PM
^^ Does Dayton have an incoming class similar in talent to Barnes/Bullock/Marshall?^ No real surprise and smart. With the labor issues coming in the NBA any potential lottery pick needs to go now if he can.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 3:47 PM. Reason : x]
4/12/2010 3:45:53 PM
Sports writers around here are UNC nutriders. You can bet that anybody and everybody is going to try and make UNC out to sound better than they are.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 3:56 PM. Reason : .]
4/12/2010 3:47:53 PM
That might make sense if Andy Katz wasn't a Wisconsin grad who lives and works in Connecticut.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 3:51 PM. Reason : typo]
4/12/2010 3:50:31 PM
Yeeeeah, I definitely wasn't talking about him
4/12/2010 3:52:10 PM
4/12/2010 3:53:48 PM
Interesting.Anyway, my contribution to the thread that may or may not have been talked about:Brandon Knight is announcing Wednesday and Leslie after the Jordan Brand Classic. This should start the dominoes falling pretty quickly in terms of the four big-time guards left. My best guess is that Knight and Lamb go UK, Selby goes KU and Joseph goes Texas (if Avery Bradley does indeed go).Note: UConn REALLY, REALLY needs Joseph. They can be Top 10 next year with him, Roscoe Smith and Kemba in the backcourt...
4/12/2010 3:55:39 PM
Ray McCallum is going to be an interesting situation as well. He's shown he can play with the best in his two all-star games and might end up at Detroit Mercy because his father is the coach. A McDonald's All-American choosing to play at Detroit rather than Arizona, Florida, or UCLA? Pretty cool, imo.
4/12/2010 4:24:08 PM
God I hope he picks Zona, they could be pretty sick with him running the point.
4/12/2010 4:33:48 PM
4/13/2010 7:57:37 AM
That may be true, but more talent will invariably get more respect than less talent. And there is no doubt at all that UNC has the far, far better incoming class.
4/13/2010 9:14:00 AM
^^unfortunately, we can't really bank on them underperforming again like they did last year. Like him or hate him, one bad year does not make douchebag Roy a bad coach. They may not win a national title next year, but they'll probably still sweep us. Ed davis leaving probably helps them with chemistry issues based on how he broke his wrist.
4/13/2010 9:31:23 AM
So you guys both think that the NIT runner up deserves a top 25 ranking because they have a good class coming in next year? They had a failure of a season with one of the most talented rosters in the NCAA so more talent might not fix it. They are also losing their only legitimate perimeter defender.
4/13/2010 11:07:39 AM
Yes. I think looking objectively at their roster and their talent they should be a Top 25 team compared to what other programs are bringing back and have coming in. There. You can't just assume this class, as talented as it is, is going to perform the same way that last years class is. All three of their incoming freshman are higher rated than their second best player from last years class.Objectively, no one should have expected the Wear's or McDonald to contribute much as freshman given their rankings. Henson obviously underperformed but his body wasn't ACC ready and he did improve a lot towards the end of last year given playing time.^ Henson is a legitimate post defender with some weight added on. Bodies change most dramatically between freshman and sophomore year for most kids given they get a full offseason of weight training overseen by the coaching staff.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:14 AM. Reason : x]
4/13/2010 11:13:43 AM
henson is a great help defender but he's terrible if you go at him[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:46 AM. Reason : \/ the "ginyard is a GREAT defender" myth is widespread]

a starting lineup of Drew (maybe Marshall?)BullockBarnesHensonZellerdoes not scare me at all. i do think Barnes and Bullock will be good but those two post guys maybe weigh a combined 400 poundsEd Davis was by far their best player, losing him really hurts
4/13/2010 12:48:15 PM
^^I hope you are kidding.
4/13/2010 12:51:41 PM
Bullock will probably have a very Wayne Ellington-esque career. His first couple years will be alright, but nothing too special. Didn't Leslie shut him down at one of the camps he played at with Harrow?^I know goaltending when I see it]
4/13/2010 12:52:29 PM
I'm talking about the two or three blocks where Tracy tried to post Henson up and Henson's length and athleticism allowed him to cleanly block Tracy.Tracy is the fucking man...but he gives up a lot in height, length, and athleticism to Henson. He quit trying to go straight up against Henson after that.
4/13/2010 1:01:23 PM
^^ Bullock is quite a bit bigger than Ellington (2"). And he is lights out from three, something that UNC desperately lacked last year. I've heard nothing but people raving about him (which I can't say the same about Marshall). And to the person who said Henson was better on help D... of course I agree with that. But the reason he wasn't as good on his man is strength. As I said, with the weight/conditioning program under the programs supervision he will no doubt get stronger. Probably never be a physical guy, but I expect that to improve a lot.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 1:06 PM. Reason : and ellington scored nearly 17 a game as a soph]
4/13/2010 1:06:20 PM
i am still a little skeptical on Bullock just because he did all his damage in a pretty weak high school divisionhe definitely has the size and the stroke to make an impact right away, but there will definitely be a transition for him getting used to playing against ACC level talent
4/13/2010 1:22:27 PM
I think he'll be solid, but nothing too special for a year or two. Last I was told he has a lot of areas to improve before he can set the world on fire
4/13/2010 3:28:44 PM
Read a few places that Kentucky is about to get the #1 player in this class and the #1 player in next years class (Gilchrist) today... joy.
4/14/2010 9:07:51 AM
No surprises. Gilchrist has long been considered a Calipari lean (he's related to WWW)
4/14/2010 11:01:41 AM
bracketology for next year's 96-team tournament:http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/bracket?id=5071629I'm pretty sure all 12 ACC teams are in there. What a joke. *sigh*
4/14/2010 10:37:44 PM
#17 SEED!!!!!! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
4/14/2010 10:49:24 PM
UNC 12 seed, lolAlso Cornell with a higher seed than us seems like a stretch, considering they had like 8 seniors this year including the entire starting 5.

may as well think about what would happen if Kobe, LBJ, and Deron Williams all wanted to play 4 years at NC State and the NCAA cleared them to do so. Because that's just as likely to happen as either of those players suiting up for the pack. Just as likelyin conclusion, stfu alias]
4/16/2010 5:56:34 PM
Lyndon Johnson is dead anyways
4/16/2010 6:17:02 PM

4/16/2010 6:55:49 PM
^ Not that you know of.
4/16/2010 6:58:08 PM
its stupid to say it sthe same because theres no way nba players could come back to college. sanders however, likely will be in college again.
