Muse, the Radiohead cover band?

311 fits because all of their songs are equally shitty

I was glad to see The Strokes in the OP. They do suck because of it though.

what the fuck does Muse do that is musically diverse?

i suppose i might've backpedaled on the eagles a bitbut i was just clarifying the ac/dc thingif a dude says he likes rock music but doesn't like ac/dc and then you ask him what rock bands he likes and he says staind and drowning pool, who's the one who's mislabeling thingshowever, i reserve the right to backpedal all i want if it comes down to it, citing emerson as precedent ]
2/27/2010 7:40:55 PM
i agree wholeheartedly re: ac/dc and their status as a rock prerequisitebut we still gonna brawl over ccr[Edited on February 27, 2010 at 7:54 PM. Reason : over ccr]

here's the thing about ccri love ccrbut when a ccr song comes on, even one that's not very popular, everyone immediately knows it's ccrmaybe it's just fogerty's voice, and maybe it's the guitar sound and productionin which case, maybe it's just that all ccr records sound the same

But if I say that I like the Replacements, the Fall, the Rolling Stones, the Clash, and the Kinks, but I don't like AC/DC, do I still like "real" rock and roll? As far as the backpedalling, I thought the more egregious example was going from "likes AC/DC" to "likes an AC/DC riff every now and then." There's a pretty big difference between liking a band every now and then (this would, to some extent, imply a "guilty pleasure") and flat-out liking a band ALL THE TIME. But, the backpedalling is now beside the point.Speaking of which, I'll bite. Why do you cite Ralph Waldo Emerson as an inspiration for the right to backpedal? His Transcendentalism? Religion? Abolitionism? I've read some Emerson (admittedly not a lot), but I don't know what you mean by this.[Edited on February 27, 2010 at 8:41 PM. Reason : .]

Interesting that noone has named a rap group, rap arguably being one of the most homogenous genres in music (although I, of course, recognize the difference between A Tribe Called Quest and 50 Cent).I'll start...Eric B and Rakim.

interesting that none of you consider albums to be collections of work done during the same periodso of course they're going to fucking sound similar, they'tr carrying a theme from song to songthat's like complaining that pieces from Picasso's Blue period are all bluebut somehow it doesn't surprise me that this point about music, from artists, is lost on the guy who spends all of his time on TWW trying to look down his nose at people for not being cool when he really doesn't have a fucking clue[Edited on February 27, 2010 at 8:53 PM. Have you actually read the thread? He called these bands' songs 'great'That doesn't strike me as "trying to look down his nose at people."And "carrying a theme from song to song" does not necessarily mean sounding the same. Plenty of bands make songs on a single album that all sound relatively different.
2/27/2010 10:32:16 PM
OMG, Fogerty's voice sounds the same whenever he sings....thus, all CCR songs sound the samelogical

I love rock n roll, and absolutely fucking hate AC/DC. A lot.

I thought vinylbandit was talking about Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Now I'm just sad that we're not talking about ELP.
2/28/2010 5:41:29 PM
And yes, muse probably has the most static music in the industry. Aside from nickelback, et al, but I figured we're just bypassing the obvious. My contribution: chili peppers. And my god, I hate the fucking chili peppers.

I disagree with muse, bellamy's voice sounds the same on every song but the music does not
2/28/2010 6:41:02 PM
^^I agree with you stylistically, but the the I-V-VIIb-IV gets tiring. The album Rift is an good example of what I mean. Each song sounds different, but the same. (I realize the same thing can be said for general I-IV-V blues/country/rock too) and I'm sorry, but with a few exceptions, all of Anastasio's solos sound the same. (but so do mine, so who am I to criticize? )
2/28/2010 7:09:49 PM
i can see that on rift, but thats kind of what they were going for, its a "concept album", but even going from album to album their styles differ vastly....but you could say the same thing about story of the ghost, a lot of it sounds the same due to the funk influence of the time but nothing on ghost sounds anything like riftand ya, he does a have a style and a sound thats his that is unique but pretty much every guitarist has. you can pick out players like jimi and page and garcia just by hearing about 5 seconds of their work. treys tension release style has remained consistent throughout his career and poeple who enjoy his playing enjoy it because of his style. but once you get out of the type 1 bits and delve into the type 2 improv from the late 90's you begin to see just one song travelling through all sorts of musical teritory.. but i understand where you're coming from, a lot of improv bands tend to fall into the "every song sounds the same" category. wsp especially

another thread where someone states their opinion, only to have everyone completely trash itgotta love threads like this, I guess they are made just to make people feel better about themselves and try to prove that their opinion is somehow better than yours.

As far as CCR goes, I'd say that there's a very distinctive CCR sound, even aside from John Fogerty's very distinctive vocals. I wouldn't say that all of their songs sound very similar, in the way that AC/DC or the Ramones do.^^ the same could be said for BostonRegarding the Eagles, they're not my favorite or anything, but they're decent. I like Joe Walsh, but I actually prefer the pre-Walsh Eagles. On the Border is a pretty solid album (I have a vinyl copy of it, you'll be glad to know, vinylbandit).

eagles was before my time. i hear so many people saying that they hate the eagles. (even in the big lebowski). was it because they were just a one hit wonder with the hotel california song? i can imagine they they got big because of that one song, but the rest of their shit sucks.
3/1/2010 12:25:38 PM
one hit wonder? you realize they had 4 multi-platinum albums before Hotel California came outwas that a troll attempt?[Edited on March 1, 2010 at 12:29 PM. Reason : 1]
3/1/2010 12:27:53 PM
calling them a one hit wonder is certainly silly. However, with that said, I can't stand them.
3/1/2010 12:43:42 PM
they controlled the rock-country market throughout the 70sreleased a new album in '72, '73, '74, '75, '76, and '79. that's almost unheard of
