I'm in, bitches. You're all about to get elduderino'd.Which I think means to be given a display of piss poor soccer skills.
2/25/2010 3:29:27 PM
kiljadn says he is a forward. I'm starting at center fullback. This could be interesting if this holds up for both of us throughout the season.^So what position would you prefer to play?[Edited on February 25, 2010 at 3:58 PM. Reason : .]

2/25/2010 6:27:53 PM
Haha, bullshit.I've previously mentioned this, but I have the same height/weight stats as Rooney. 5'10", 175lbs.
2/25/2010 9:02:34 PM
most of the TASL refs are bad btw. only some are quick with the cards. we had 5 or 6 guys get carded for one call once last year simply because we tried to ask why a foul was called on a seemingly clean tackle.you just got to know who you can and can't talk to/at.
2/25/2010 9:59:10 PM
^^I am too! Maybe Bob Bradley will give me a call soon? ^When I was young and playing we always had a speaking captain that was supposed to be able to talk to the ref. Do they do that anymore?
2/25/2010 10:44:12 PM
they are supposed to, i believe. some of the refs just don't feel like they should have to say a word to you though whether you are a speaking captain or not.
2/25/2010 10:46:14 PM
^^Was there a Sporting practice today or something? There was some mention in that email you sent out.
2/25/2010 11:12:46 PM
^I think 3, or 4 guys met somewhere today. Tuesday 7 of us met up and Wednesday about 5 of us went to Brixx Pizza together. We're done with practice till the season starts Saturday.
2/25/2010 11:14:42 PM
Gotchya.
2/25/2010 11:23:14 PM
Lets all just hope CASL doesn't shut down Preston Woods. Does anyone know if Cary got a lot of snow in that area to go with yesterdays rain?
2/25/2010 11:26:07 PM
Who's ready for the 8am game tomorrow?I'm going to bring gloves and a toboggan and wear like 2 shirts underneath my uniform. I hope they allow all that .
2/26/2010 8:53:07 AM
Yeah, you can wear whatever you want as long as your jersey is on top, and your number is showing. I wear field gloves ("magic" knitted gloves from the Dollar Store) in the cold but try to minimize bulk (sweatshirts, pants, etc.) as much as possible because it could (and usually does) impact your touch on the ball. Good luck to all tomorrow!
2/26/2010 9:15:14 AM
^And if the pants or shirt get wet it will just make you colder. I guess we we all see each other at Preston tomorrow. All of the C division games are being played on the same field.
2/26/2010 11:52:41 AM
I'm probably going to go UnderArmor Heatgear under T-shirt under JerseyHopefully all the wetness will get dried off.
2/26/2010 11:57:28 AM
^So who all plays on Hibernian that posts on here? Is that your team?
2/26/2010 12:18:32 PM
If those fields have decent drainage, I think they should be close to dry by tomorrow. Plenty of Sun outside today and the grass outside here doesn't even seem too bad. My guess is that they're real field Nazis over at TASL though, eh?

2/26/2010 12:46:47 PM
^^Andy said TASL has no say so. It is CASL that chooses what to do.
2/26/2010 1:56:42 PM
Right, TASL rents all of their fields from CASL and various area Parks and Rec. Departments. TASL has been planning to build its own soccer complex for a few years, but they haven't broken ground--or even purchased any land, to my knowledge. If you don't have your player pass yet, be sure to take some ID to the field. As long as you are on the team roster, most referees will give you a free pass for the first couple weeks of the season.
2/26/2010 2:17:42 PM
^^^Great, Hibernian has God on their side.
2/26/2010 2:42:15 PM
Are you guys sponsored by the pub or do you just have a thing for shitty Scottish teams?
2/26/2010 3:29:51 PM
I try to channel the spirit of Andoni Goikoetxea whenever I can.
2/26/2010 4:04:02 PM
LOL, do you have the shoes you kicked that chick in the stomach with in a trophy case at home? What's the substitution rules for this league?
2/26/2010 4:36:55 PM
All games cancelled tomorrow
2/26/2010 5:48:53 PM
^^ subs on and off at ref's discretion for play stoppages.a lot of the refs enforce different rules, some wont let you on for other teams free kicks / throws, some will. They shouldn't, but hell if anyone won't exploit a ref that doesn't know the rules.[Edited on February 26, 2010 at 6:08 PM. Reason : pretty pissed the games are cancelled. they really need to get the $ to build that TASL facility]
2/26/2010 6:04:34 PM
Lame. I was just on a field with poor drainage (non-casl) kicking the ball around and it was 90% dry. Looks like I can go snowboarding now...I'd rather drive 10 minutes to play soccer than drive 3.5 hrs to the mountains though. Are there make-up games? I remember reading somewhere that Sunday was a make up day, but I also remember reading that half the fee of canceled games will go towards next season or some B.S.
2/26/2010 6:11:36 PM
2/26/2010 10:56:12 PM
Ah, that sucks! ^^You are guaranteed 10 games, so this weekend's games will be rescheduled. More time to practice / prepare, I guess? My team kicks off on Thursday at the WRAL stadium, which, thankfully, is generally always open.
2/26/2010 11:39:20 PM
^So does week 1 get moved to week 11? I hope so because I work on Sunday and need over a week to let the schedule maker know I won't be at work.
2/26/2010 11:42:52 PM
Not necessarily, unfortunately. A lot of the fields will probably be needed for CASL-related activities after May 8th, so the reschedule will be more of a hodge podge than a "neat" insertion of an 11th week. Some games may be played at the end of the season, and some will probably just be stuck somewhere mid-season. In general, TASL has been fairly good over the years about rescheduling far enough in advance to give folks time to get off work, etc. So, I hope they continue to do that in this instance.
2/26/2010 11:50:48 PM
2/27/2010 12:26:18 PM
It would, actually. I neglected to mention that the fields will be artificial turf (field turf) like the Centex fields and Durham Bulls stadium at the WRAL complex. Games on these fields are pretty much never canceled (unless it is lightning).
2/27/2010 2:20:55 PM
Actually I though the plans for the TASL complex had some real pitches as well as artificial ones?
2/27/2010 5:00:48 PM
Oh yeah, that's right. I think I remember hearing that now as part of the original plan.
2/27/2010 5:11:45 PM
yeah, i'm pretty sure they were going to build a couple of each.
2/27/2010 5:23:52 PM
So TASL will have an Estadio Saprissa?
2/27/2010 6:25:07 PM
Games rescheduled. Looks like they were able to just add a week onto the end of the season.
3/2/2010 11:57:01 AM
Cool! Anyway, I am about to go get my shirt and pass at the CASL office. elduderino, if you read this I would call if I was you. It took over 2 weeks for the rest of us to get everything and you have been signed up for less than a week.Hopefully this week they don't shut down Preston again because of teh rain and snow that is coming.[Edited on March 2, 2010 at 12:03 PM. 3/2/2010 12:01:54 PM
Seriously. And if "April showers bring May flowers" holds true, we won't be playing at all.
3/2/2010 5:26:39 PM
^Today Andy said they will probably let us play this weekend. They just wanted us to wait before we tear up the field. They can't delay it forever since this is the rainy season.
3/2/2010 5:33:56 PM
Hey, guys. I think I solved the problem you brought up on the last page.
3/2/2010 9:23:40 PM
B4C, what do our jerseys look like? Pic?
3/2/2010 10:54:47 PM
^^ lol
3/2/2010 11:02:52 PM
^^Solid royal blue t-shirts. He gave me #17. btw, Andy said that Sheperds House of War is an all African team that should be playing +30. He said they are technically pretty good, but they are older. It also sounds like we have 2 actual GKs playing and we won't have to rely on the guy who has never played in the goal, so that is good.
3/3/2010 12:45:42 AM
LOL, wat? Interesting team name too.You did say we were black shorts and socks though, eh? What a combo.

Nah, I knew they were in our league, I just thought it was an interesting story. What do you think about a message board/website for our team? I might be able to throw something together with a calendar, bulletin board, etc. Might be easier than e-mail wars.
3/3/2010 1:12:04 AM
^Lets stick to the e-mail. I told everyone I had a myspace and facebook, but no one seems to want to start a facebook group, or myspace page. It isn't hard to read e-mails. People just need to answer them and they will. I need to know who the GK's are though, so I can make the starting line up. Everything is set once I figure out who the starting GK is. We have all of the other positions filled except GK and LB. The LB spot will probably be taken by the wanna be GK (also DM), if one of the others shows up since he went to the bar and made it to practice. I have only met half the team so far.
