what are the server settings to connect NCSU Gmail with thunderbird?
4/3/2010 12:47:08 PM
Enable either IMAP or POP:https://mail.google.com/a/ncsu.edu/?AuthEventSource=SSO#settings/fwdandpopIMAP Instructions:http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75726POP Instructions:http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=12103Also before you can do any of this I think you have to change your unity password once. Sort of like an initialization thing for security purposes.[Edited on April 3, 2010 at 1:43 PM. Reason : -]

Topeka mail!
4/3/2010 1:45:01 PM
so the address is imap.google.com, not something involving NCSU?
4/3/2010 2:43:26 PM
^ Yes. it all goes through the gmail servers now.One thing I hate, correct me if you can fix it. Labels != folders. I set my "folders" back up in gmail with filters to them, but they are really just labels, and dont copy over to outlook

4/4/2010 7:45:09 PM
^ A lot of times that means their account hasnt finished copying over. I got it until it did. merbig what theme is that? Looks nice!

4/4/2010 10:56:06 PM
^ https://mail.google.com/a/ncsu.edu/#settings/webclipsGo there and uncheck the "Show my web clips above the Inbox" box. I also removed everything in the list for good measure.

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but has anybody had any luck setting up the new email account on the iphone? I feel like an old person for being unable to figure this out. Setting it up as a Gmail account doesn't work, but neither does setting it up as "Other". WTF?

As long as you have reset your password, this should workemail address: unityid@ncsu.edupassword: yourpasswordusername: unityid@ncsu.eduIMAPimap.gmail.comport: 993-sslsmtp.gmail.comport: 465*-ssl*The last 2 starred settings I am not sure on, try tls if ssl doesn't work first. if neither work, try changing port to 587Hope this helps.

i'm using firefox with no problems.

i realize that not everybody is having this problem, hence the reason i'm asking for help here.
4/7/2010 2:08:42 PM
I've made sure cookies are active, I deleted all of my old cookies, I opened the profile folder for firefox and deleted the cookies files, and it has done nothing to help.

Hey guys, I work for OIT and if you're looking to get it to work with Thunderbird, here's your answer:1. Go to http://www.ncsu.edu/password and change your password. This is required, because this is the only way that the google IMAP/SMTP servers will sync up properly. Don't ask why; it's really weird.2. Go to Thunderbird and create a new account.3. IMAP server is: imap.gmail.com, port 9934. Username for IMAP is: unityIDgoeshere@ncsu.edu5. Password for IMAP is: Your unity ID password6. Connection security for IMAP is: SSL/TLS. Do not check "Secure Authentication."7. SMTP server is: smtp.gmail.com, port 4658. Username for SMTP is: unityIDgoeshere@ncsu.edu9. Connection security for SMTP is: SSL/TLS. Do not check "Secure Authentication."You should be good to go after that.I don't work in the same IT department as the mail guys work at, but this is how I was able to get it to work with Thunderbird.
4/7/2010 7:43:54 PM
^ A++ would follow steps again.
4/7/2010 8:05:22 PM
I figured out my problem. Apparently, you cannot link directly to the login page... you have to link to the actual gmail.ncsu.edu page.

still gettin the same error on my phone. i tried changing my password. gonna try it again in the morning

UNC has just chosen Microsoft Live@EDU. 25 gigs of storage space per student, and it is going to integrate well with faculty/staff campus wide exchange that is being built.[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 9:20 AM. Reason : .]
