page 2 says:Get a 4Runner!

Just saw the news that Toyota has placed a Hold on pretty much ever car they make.... Highlander included, so you can't buy one anyways... That said I bet you can find some deals on like new yotas now... Of course you may value your life. Love the ford flex, not pretty but man is it comfy.[Edited on January 26, 2010 at 8:16 PM. no one says he has to buy new, and from what i've read, the 4runner isn't in that lineuphttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35086922/ns/business-autos/[
1/26/2010 8:42:46 PM
Well i felt biased because i own one so i didnt saything before, but fuck it now - get a 4runner.btw can anyone summarize any recent safety issues w toyota OTHER THAN the poor floormat/pedal design? all this news of poor toyota quality seems overblown on the death-inducing loose floormats.[Edited on January 26, 2010 at 9:41 PM. 1/26/2010 9:37:36 PM
They lied, floormats are not THE problem. There is evidently a major electrical or mechanical problem with nearly every car they've made in the last 2 years (5 for the avalon).[Edited on January 26, 2010 at 9:46 PM. Reason : K]
1/26/2010 9:45:14 PM
^^ they found wrecked toyotas w/stuck gas pedals when the floor mats were in the trunk. and toyota was like, oh shit.
1/27/2010 7:35:37 AM
looks like it's a US made part that's to blame. Go USA!
1/27/2010 9:32:41 AM
An SUV is based on a truck platform and has RWD or 4WD.Everything else is a "crossover" or a tall wagon or minivan.
1/27/2010 10:53:12 AM
Every time I see a Ford Escape or CRV with a big empty spot under the rear of the car where a differential would be (given AWD) I just chuckle.
1/27/2010 10:58:53 AM
the gas pedal being stuck is a good excuse. another reason why im getting the LF-A.
1/27/2010 11:07:00 AM
^It probably explains the fast lap time on Top Gear.

The Land Cruiser is right up there as well man...
1/28/2010 7:53:23 PM
Yes. But the Jeep was first.Oh, and http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sport-utility+vehicle
1/28/2010 10:13:45 PM
you're missing our point. Neither the jeep nor the landcruiser is built on a truck platform, they are uni-body vehicles.
1/29/2010 10:24:20 AM
But they are RWD or 4WD. That's my point. Truck platform or unibody doesn't matter in those cases. Those vehicles were built for off-roading from the beginning.

I have an 06 4runner XSP ( Pics in my gallery) that I love.I was considering trading it in for a new Tahoe because I love the way they look but worry about the reliability.Lastly, I really like the look of the new 2011 jeep grand Cherokee.
1/31/2010 2:39:48 PM
i beg to differ, the scout was the original suv. Jeep may have upgraded their creatures comforts for civy use, but IH came out with the first suv.
1/31/2010 6:30:34 PM
when IH came out with the Scout there was no "SUV"nothing at all sporty about a scout, its just a utility vehicle

Damn I forgot about this thread. Anyway my wife and I did finally pick a vehicle - a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L.Why? Well her car, an 02 Camry, started showing signs of a major engine failure and after doing some research we decided to go ahead and trade her car in instead of my old truck. She drives ~70 total miles/day and our daughter is with her so it was important that we replace her Camry with something that got good gas mileage (~30 mpg highway) and was very safe. We are going to wait a couple of more years before we get an SUV. Also after researching it for a while, I had narrowed my choices down to:1. Honda Pilot2. Mazda CX-93. Mitsubishi Outlander4. Chevy TraverseThe Pilot was most likely going to win. I just could not get a Toyota considering that the engine in my wife's Camry started having trouble and of course with all of the current shit going on with the recalls.

In the process of shopping for new mid-size SUVs. We've test driven Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Jeep Grand Cherokee. They were all 2016 models, except for the Jeep (apparently the 2016 model of the JGC hasn't been released).Anyone owning the new models of these (or other similarly sized SUVs) have advice or pro/con input?
1/11/2016 11:46:28 AM
Own a Ford Explorer, its okay but nothing exciting, its a taller Taurus. Asking me to describe the pro/cons is like trying to do the same thing for white bread. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has one of the worst time in the shop ratings, you should not buy one of these.

highlander > pilotall depends on what you're looking for. The pilot is a 4 door honda odyssey. The highlander is a step or two closer to a utility vehicle, but still ultimately a mall crawler. But a reliable one that drives fairly well and extremely comfortable. I'm a 4runner zealot, and when i needed to get something with a 3rd row for the kids, it came down to a highlander or another 4runner w/3rd row option. of course i got the 4runner, but the highlander was a close second choice. I drove the pilot as well but was completely underwhelmed.

I have a 2013 Pilot 4WD Touring. It is a good car in every aspect but isn't exceptional in any that I can think of. I'm guessing they took care of this and made it "nicer" with the 2016 updates but I haven't driven it. I've been pleased overall with it. Good ride, fair fuel economy, pretty good space inside, reliable so far. Have had it in snow and ice with no problems.Alternatives I considered were CX-9, Highlander, and Traverse/Acadia. Ruled out the CX-9 because I couldn't get the options I wanted for the price of the Pilot. Liked the Highlander but the cargo area was too small for me (I have two big dogs). Knew someone with a Acadia and liked it but was nervous about GM reliability long-term. Also, for the options I wanted the price was too high. The Pilot hit the sweet-spot for me.Like most Hondas it is good to very good, although not innovative, with few if any major problem spots.
1/12/2016 3:14:12 PM
Can't go wrong with a Highlander IMO. Was just looking up some SUVs specs...the Pilot can only tow 2000 lb?! Lol, wtf.
1/12/2016 4:46:38 PM
4wd version is 5,000 lbs for 2016. 4,500 for previous. If you're in the market for a mid sized SUV there's a pretty slim chance you'll need to tow more than that.
1/12/2016 9:31:16 PM
Test drive a Mazda CX-9. You'll love it.
1/13/2016 3:34:21 PM
With my van troubles (see other threads), my wife and I were considering a new vehicle. She recommended I take a look at the CX-9. We have friends (husband is a prof. in the College of Textiles) who bought theirs last year and they love it.FWIW.

^^^^that and the 4wd model has a top speed of 18mph if 4wd is engaged. WTF?
1/14/2016 9:44:52 AM
Is that just AWD above 18 and locked 4WD below 18 or above 18 is it FWD only? If it is AWD still above 18 that doesn't seem like a limitation for anything someone would be doing in a Honda Pilot
1/14/2016 9:54:13 AM
yeah that sounds about right, it's been a while since i was in the market, but i remember that being a head scratcher... but to your point, it's more than enough for the target audience.
1/14/2016 9:58:24 AM
our 2010 rav4 lets us lock 4wd below 25mph and then it kicks in as needed above 25mph but won't let you lock it in
1/14/2016 11:14:40 AM
by locked i mean that the front and rear are locked together (4WD), not that it is "locked on" and torque is being sent to the front and rear as needed in AWD
1/14/2016 11:42:46 AM
Yeah, that much just be for running with locked differentials. Otherwise it is full time 4WD.
1/15/2016 5:01:08 PM
probably not full time 4wd and it probably doesn't have lockers, probably full time awd and it can lock the center diff at low speed for 4wd

My sister has one of the 2009 pilots and has driven it all over the damned country. She loves it, works well with her dog and it holds an obscene amount of stuff. Only bad thing i can recall is that the interior seems a little bit cheap, but other than that its been a solid reliable car.
