ah so i got in while the gettin was good!

Thanks for posting the links. This makes a lot more sense now. As much as I dislike this now being a requirement, so long as its stated as a requirement when I purchase a particular phone, I'm good with that. I'll take my business elsewhere if I dislike strongly enough, or, find a different phone model that doesn't have this requirement.[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 9:25 PM. Reason : .]

Or you'll pay for it, use it, and like it.

T-mobile still has the worst network to have a smart phone on hands down. The absolute worst, especially in NC.

I got my enV Touch in October, right before it became must-have-data-plan. That was the dividing line between it & the Samsung Rogue. So far I've enjoyed my smart dumbphone.
1/15/2010 9:46:08 PM
Just don't be dumb and fuck it up, or your insurance replacement will come with a data package for you to pay on every month. Congrats!
1/15/2010 11:41:57 PM
I'm guessing you could use that as a loophole and grounds for termination without cost due to adverse effects.

^Hell I was thinking about doing one for my wife. She works a block from home at a bank, so she can't be chatting on her cellphone anyways; it has to be off. She was using my VZW employee line phone, but my boss at my main job got pissed at Verizon and cut our business lines all off, and we are switching to USCellular, I believe. So until he does I was hoping to put her on a cheap ass prepaid plan with her cellphone. But not for $65 damn bucks!

ttt for the "official" release. well, I've been looking at it and I never get to choose the $29.99 unlimited data plan... only the $45 unlimited or the $30 unlimited email plans... [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 10:46 AM. Reason : .]

ooh online exclusive for a free entice or rival. "hey, here's a new phone but it's gonna cost you $240-$700 more over the term of your 2 yr contract"^ the 29.99 unlimited plan is for the "3G Multimedia Phones". They still have the 29.99 or 44.99 data plans on the blackberries and smartphones. [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 10:52 AM. Reason : ]

It should be under data package. For simple feature phones, it shows pay per use, 9.99, and 29.99. 3G multimedia show 9.99 and 29.99 and smartphones should show 29.99 or 44.99. Pick a phone, choose a plan and then it'll give you the options (messaging, data, insurance, etc) on the next page. [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 10:56 AM. Reason : ]

oh that's a bunch of bullshit. I thought it was just the $30 for unlimited data like the home page says... it's not, it's fucking $45 for unlimited data. so if I get a new phone, I have to change my plan and I'dd end up paying more for a lot less. I hate verizon.
1/18/2010 11:01:28 AM
what kind of phone are you talking about? The $45 data option is for corporate blackberries and smartphones. The 29.99 option is still "unlimited" on blackberries/smartphones on consumer plans.
1/18/2010 11:05:12 AM
ohhhh, it just has a different label. the $29.99 just says email & web which I figured meant some type of email access and limited web app access. I'm used to being on an unlimited data plan that is called an unlimited data plan...
1/18/2010 11:13:29 AM
yeah, the 44.99 plan is required for BES access and apparently corporate accounts for the other smartphones.
1/18/2010 11:17:15 AM
good enough. doesn't matter to me now though My mom and sister are on my plan and I just realized that the idiots at verizon used my last upgrade opportunity for my sister... so my contract has another 15 months or so. Her contract is done next december, but I don't want to do anything that extends any of our contracts in this family plan since my phone/plan is what makes the entire plan so expensive (I was going to get my own plan). I doubt they'll let me cancel my sister's contract, move her number to my contract, change her (and my mom's) plan and then let me be free... [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 11:24 AM. Reason : .]

Which plan do you have? If it's over 49.99 (which all of the family plans are) and you're on my verizon, the main line can upgrade annually. In other news, I had the storm on my own verizon contract and terminated it yesterday since I got the droid on a line I had on my parents alltel plan. Fucktards wouldn't let me transfer my number to that phone. [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 11:29 AM. Reason : ]
1/18/2010 11:27:53 AM
it's an old alltel family plan... $110/month. the site says my I'm not eligible for an upgrade until 5/11 (contract expires 9/11)
1/18/2010 11:33:46 AM
hmm...not sure if alltel plans are eligible. They give you the NE2 credit though so maybe they do the annual upgrade. I know if a line on an alltel plan is eligible, you can transfer all lines to a verizon plan and upgrade all previous alltel equipment to verizon phones regardless of contract dates but none of your lines are eligible and verizon plans are about $20 or more than comparable alltel plans. I suppose you could terminate a line but I don't think they'd let you port that same number to a verizon contract from talking to CS yesterday.
1/18/2010 11:47:24 AM
we're actually all on verizon phones now, just with the old alltel plan. and at the time if we were to transfer to a verizon plan, we would have paid about $30 more per month and lose quite a bit, so we didn't. looks like I'm stuck for a while
1/18/2010 12:03:15 PM
yup. Verizon costs you an arm, leg and your first born. oh well, at least the unlimited plans are cheaper. [Edited on January 18, 2010 at 12:06 PM. Reason : ]

1/18/2010 1:53:11 PM
lol verizon is stupid. $40 on top of the 29.99 data for wireless tether. Which it's fairly easy to enable it on the Sprint Pre so I doubt it'll be too hard to do it on the Pre Plus and get it for free.
1/21/2010 4:08:11 PM
So I'm on the Alltel plans as well. I called just now to see if I could keep the Alltel plans if I wanted to upgrade to smartphones (for myself and my wife) while locking in a contract. She said yes but the phones would run faster on the Verizon plans. Does anyone know, is it true that they are somehow restricting Alltel planned phones to a slower network. I haven't kept up with phone network nuances to know if this makes sense that they are somehow restricting phones that are still paying Alltel prices.Anyone?
2/28/2010 6:05:41 PM
Ha it's BS. Wont be any difference
2/28/2010 7:38:09 PM
Going to be the same speed. The only speed differentiator is whether the phone you get is Rev. A or not which has nothing to do with the plan.
2/28/2010 8:59:34 PM
What's the big deal?If you don't like it, go with another carrier next time your contract is up. It doesn't affect you until then, anyway.I mean, I don't see how this is a smart move, but whatever. It's their business.
2/28/2010 9:22:17 PM
Neither t-mobile or at&t offer 3g in this area (AT&T actually covers it on base, but not between base and where I'll be living) and Sprint doesn't offer the phone I want.Isn't the free market cool? Buy up a competitor then jack up the prices.
2/28/2010 9:50:53 PM
AT&T has their own text/data requirement for their messaging phones. It's more flexible though as you can get $20 unlimited texting, $20 unlimited data or a combination of text and data. Also the $30 family texting option covers the requirement.

im on verizon and i pay $122.34 per month and i get the following-900 minutes w/ 5 "friends & family"-unlimited texts-unlimited m2m & nights & weekends (duh)-unlimited data with email & web access-250MB aircardi think its a pretty good deal actually. i can talk and text whoever i want whenever i want. check my email & do webstuff unlimited and can get online with my netbook anytime, anywhere.
3/1/2010 12:37:10 PM
So, can you pair the 39.99 plan w/ the 29.99 data for $70?
3/1/2010 3:40:43 PM
yes
3/1/2010 3:51:28 PM
awesome, thanks
