I like how Campbell isn't an NFL caliber QB, but 3 guys who have never taken a snap in the NFL in their lives apparently are NFL caliber QBs
1/8/2010 4:43:15 PM
They could be troll. Campbell didn't even play that well at Auburn, he was just a game manager. That's all he is. Matt Moore>>>>Campbell could ever be. Why don't some of you ask a Redskins fan what they think of Campbell?[Edited on January 9, 2010 at 3:07 AM. Reason : Campbell is a bottom 10 QB][Edited on January 9, 2010 at 3:09 AM. Reason : I guess you guys are so used to Delhomme sucking dick that any QB looks good][Edited on January 9, 2010 at 3:12 AM. Reason : late ]

You're just a Campbell haterI'm not saying he's guaranteed success, but he is the best quarterback on the free agent market in the Panther's price range if he isn't retained in Washington.
1/9/2010 10:59:01 AM
^agreed. Campbell, Moore, Jake, and other QBs of their relative caliber won't be THE answer. The panthers have never needed much more than a game managing QB and that wont change this year.If our D, O-line, and RBs perform like they did those last 4 games - we don't need a top caliber QB. But having two legitimate game managing QBs on the team could be seen as a strength if/when the initial starter gets hurt/pulls a Delhomme. Campbell and Moore should suffice unless the Panthers think Jake is still a legit game manager backup....I'm more worried about shoring up the D-line than QB....

i hear that jon beason got a pro bowl invite, according to darin gantt (rock hill herald)
1/29/2010 2:19:24 PM
i think that John Beason got robbed a Pro Bowl invite this year. there's no way Patrick Willis had a better year. Also, any news on who we're hiring for assistant coaches?
1/29/2010 3:33:53 PM
umm?? patrick willis is damn good. he led the league in tackles this year (I think he did last year too) so he's definitely worthy of the pro bowl. hired a new special teams coach and receivers coach. those are the only moves so far i think[Edited on January 29, 2010 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]

I thought that this was a dead period anyways and you couldn't negotiate with players that are going into free agency. I could be wrong though. I think this is another ploy by Julius and his agent to try and get him out Charlotte. I think the Panthers may call his bluff again.
2/1/2010 12:06:04 AM
there's no way any team will pay him $15 million/year for anything longer than 3 years. He's 31 for god's sake.
2/1/2010 1:29:38 AM
^Allow me to introduce you to Dan Snyder
2/1/2010 1:33:56 AM
he's not even stressing about the want to play for another team/ 3-4 defense stuff anymore so we could definetly sign him, it just depends if we can afford him or not, I'm not sure what we could gain right now with the money if we don't sign him anyway
2/1/2010 3:11:12 AM
he wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. The problem is for every Minnesota or Arizona game there are 5 games where he is a non factor.
2/1/2010 9:15:52 AM
I wish there was no such thing as sports agentsJulius himself is dumb enough to accept 10 million dollars and a Playstation 3[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 9:18 AM. Reason : x]
2/1/2010 9:18:03 AM
Umm, he went to Carolina. He is not dumb!OK, I digress. He is dumb. I still think the Panthers are better with him.
2/1/2010 11:00:53 AM
but you cant sink ~15% into a player who has stability of performance issues.i mean, if he was a jerry rice type player, where every week you knew you were going to get the full effort and great performance, it's one thing, but that is not what peppers is.
2/1/2010 11:02:25 AM
The problem here is, Jerry can't go spending TONS of money next season bc of his position in the CBA. He could if he weren't where he is. However, you spend that much on Jules and he plays up to his potential next year it's still not a loss. His value will diminish due to his age, and he will be a cheaper option come 2011.I could be way off, but it seems the only things we can do are let him walk or pay him cheddar.
2/1/2010 11:11:43 AM
let him walk and hopefully delhomme gets his panties in a bunch about it and we can see him out too
2/1/2010 11:22:54 AM
You don't get a great performance every week from any defensive end, at least in terms of numbers. There are some games when they have the o-lineman completely outmatched, and they get 3-4 sacks. The most you can hope for is to get good push every week and pressure on the QB. I think Peppers did that pretty reliably after the terrible start to the season. He still isn't worth $22 million.
2/1/2010 12:11:36 PM
2/1/2010 1:27:01 PM
Maybe the Panthers are letting him survey the market to see what his real "value" is.
2/1/2010 1:33:54 PM
2/1/2010 2:03:55 PM
^^ that's the smartest thing to do at this pointHe might not attract the kind of money his agent thinks he will

2/9/2010 10:43:30 AM
Franchise him again and work a trade for whatever they can get...even if its only a 4th or 5th round pick in the draft.
2/9/2010 10:56:24 AM
I just can't see that happeningIt basically equates to playing with fire because you slap the tag on the guy and all of a sudden you can't make any moves until you get him off the books. But, if for some reason you can't work out a deal with another team and you are stuck paying him 20+ you are completely and totally fucked as franchise. They just need to let him walk and leave their offseason options open
2/9/2010 11:10:22 AM
You're not screwed if there isn't a cap next year...Which also makes it more likely a team like Oakland or Washington will overspend to bring him in.
2/9/2010 11:32:37 AM
Here's the thing about that though. It's not a "free for all" on spending money because franchises will have to get back under the cap as soon as the new CBA is ratified. So, you aren't going to sign a guy to a ridiculous deal for 4-5 years and fuck yourself over an unmanageable contract where one player is eating 20% or more of your cap. They'll just more than likely continue down the same path and try to stay near the new projected cap number. Which would mean no crazy deal for Peppers or any other player.
2/9/2010 11:57:59 AM
http://www.wfnz.com/pages/139668.phpThe Peppers interview from this morning is under "recent audio"
2/9/2010 12:28:21 PM
^^Just frontload the contract then.
2/9/2010 12:48:51 PM
Franchising him for one year won't hurt you in the long run regardless of the new collective bargaining agreementIt just comes down to whether or not Jerry Richardson wants to pay him $20 million for a year
2/9/2010 12:50:07 PM
Peppers seems to forgot a few things when asking for all this money.1. He's not the league's biggest impact player on defense -- not even in the top 10 as far as I'm concerned2. He has a reputation for taking plays off, being hard to motivate, being nullified by lesser talent3. He's what, 31? That's over the hill by NFL standards4. He's not as versatile as he thinks. Can he drop back into pass coverage? Sure. Is he a LB? I sure as hell don't see it.The panthers will be better off letting him walk and spending the cap money on DT, OL, and WR depth

they just replayed the interviewfuck Peptoo bad Mac is so spineless an interviewer to ever disagree with any of Pep's selfish and vague answers]
2/9/2010 1:30:13 PM
^^My point is, they could have traded him last year after he was franchised...From what I heard, plenty of teams were interested, but none wanted to give up what they were asking for him (2 first day draft picks). I doubt they'd have a hard time finding a trade partner willing to give him a long term deal...and if they lower the asking price to whatever they can get in terms of a draft pick, they actually get something out of it instead of just letting him walk.Even if it backfires and they can't trade him, chances are it will be an uncapped year, so there won't be any long term ramifications, since it's a one year deal.
2/9/2010 1:37:32 PM
Sounds to me like the only way he plays here next season is if we tag him again
2/9/2010 1:58:47 PM
^^ Peppers didn't sign his franchise tender until right before training camp so the Panthers couldn't do anything with his rights. They were absolutely powerless in that situation. Then, he came out with that three team list of Saints, Bucs, and Pats to which the Panthers told his agent they could part with him for two first rounders. At that point, his agent tried to work out a deal and but no team was willing to give up that kind of compensation in addition to signing him to a lucrative deal. I think the Pats had the best offer at two 6th rounders. That is exactly what would happen this year too. He won't sign his tender so he has a say in where he could possibly be traded to and in the process tie up every single spending dollar the Panthers have this offseason. As long as he doesn't sign, his agent is the only person that can negotiate with other teams. If he signs, then the Panthers can negotiate a deal with any team and get max compensation with no regard to what team they are actually trading him too. We literally just went through this exact same situation last offseason. What makes you think it will be any different this time around?Do you really want to go through all that grief to get two 6th rounders and potentially fuck ourselves, or let the man walk and leave all our doors open to spending in FA and the draft? He isn't worth it. It isn't about saving face anymore. He just said he will not be signing a long term deal with Panthers so no matter what happens he walks after raping us financially for another year. He can completely tank it next year, be a cancer, and talk the shit he wants and still hit the free agent market in Spring '11.[Edited on February 9, 2010 at 2:02 PM. Reason : .]
2/9/2010 2:00:22 PM
fuck him, let him walk.
2/9/2010 2:08:32 PM
^^again, we have a month to see how the cap situation will shake out before we have to submit our franchise player. If the 2010 season is uncapped (which it looks almost certain it will be), there will be absolutely no adverse effects on their ability to spend $ on other players even if they have to pay peppers 20 mil.
