This is why I never stop for accidents... Let "survival of the fittest" takes it's course.ok, I'll admit that I have stopped in the past, but I don't go out of my way to cross medians/lanes of highway/climb trees/jump bridges/etc...

it is wrong to assume that intellect/education is a evolutionarily fit trait. look at birth rates among PHD holders and people with only a high school education, i'm sure you`ll find the latter is much higher. since these people with less intellect and education have contributed their genes in a more meaningful way to future generations, they are more fit- regardless if they are on welfare or not.

C'mon, don't devolve this into a Idiocracy thread.

pwntsad story though. I do not see how the DOT could possibly be held responsible for this thoughSurprised no one has brought up the age old addage look before you leap.

http://sexoffender.ncdoj.gov/details.aspx?SRN=011978S7He was 18. She could have been 15 with a pissed off dad. It's impossible to know.Although with a 15 year sentence, that's not likely, but not impossible. Just ask that guy down the street serving a 35 year sentence for stealing a TV.http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/117412/ Nevermind, he's out on parole now. Just in time to die.[Edited on December 1, 2009 at 10:42 AM. Reason : .]

evolutionary result of this death trap: less altruism
12/1/2009 9:44:12 PM
dude who died, just after turning 18, he committed "indecent liberties with a minor". NC statute 14-202.1, means the girl (or boy) was no older than 13.... convicted on two counts. spent full 10 years in prison. gets out of prison and 4 years later dies trying to help an accident victim.so... did karma "get" him? or did his tragical futile action help restore his previous negative karma?
12/2/2009 3:23:37 AM
Hi there, why dont you have a seat in Crabtree Creek...
12/2/2009 8:04:55 AM
^^ why do you prejudge this event to be tragic? Some might even call it justice.
12/2/2009 8:29:10 AM
Would you guys have been happier if all the articles and the thread title said "sex offender falls to death on 440 near crabtree"
12/2/2009 8:39:07 AM
Maybe the good samaritan saw a 10 yr old girl in the car involved in the accident and just wanted to "help out"
12/2/2009 8:41:21 AM
^ /thread
12/2/2009 8:45:05 AM
yeah, i'd say it's tragic.it just seems like a life that had gone wrong at every turn. maybe some people are cursed. and maybe he's one of them.
12/2/2009 12:03:57 PM
I can't imagine the "oh shit" face that person made. I mean really, to jump over and then realize you are falling... wow.
12/2/2009 12:09:44 PM
12/2/2009 12:51:35 PM
i'd say the landing got him
12/2/2009 3:32:34 PM
if he was on the moon, he would have fallen from teh overpass, and just got back up and brushed the dust off.so, i'm gonna have to say "gravity" is the winnar.

nothing better than a physical barrier, a couple of danger signs probably aint gonna help much in a scramble situation dudeotherwise the dude might have stopped to look and see what was on the otherside in the first place
12/3/2009 4:44:22 PM
Personally I wouldn't do dick about it. It's not their responsibility to make sure that every possible dangerous place that isn't intended for pedestrians is still safe for pedestrians.

I'm sure that they already have sleeper cells in place that will begin cutting down fences as soon as they're activated.
12/4/2009 12:47:45 AM
i wouldn't be surprised - they think of everything!
12/4/2009 1:32:19 AM
ok so he was jumping out of the way because a car was coming at him (according to the N&O article). if there was a fence wound he have not gotten hit by the car which was most likely doing highway speeds? either way dude was screwed.
12/4/2009 2:45:12 PM
^that actually makes no sense unless the car was driving on the (ample) shoulder.

^ I'd say that the guy who stopped his car on the freeway, got out, and then hopped a divider without looking is at fault here.

Why the hell didnt the city put a fence on the other side also after the 2005 death? That might be grounds for a lawsuit. It seems pretty stupid to put it up on one side only....They knew of the problem in 2005 and failed to fix it completely.[Edited on December 12, 2009 at 1:28 AM. Reason : w]
12/12/2009 1:26:07 AM
ordinary road signs along the interstate run upwards of $30k, so 50k for a fence is pretty reasonable[Edited on December 12, 2009 at 1:47 AM. Reason : in comparison]
