Although I can imagine no useful purpose for that other than to get in the way that is actually quite cool.

^ Fancypants. I thought that was an agarose gel at first, but considering that it had a lot more bands that I'm used to dealing with (sub-cloning into plasmids, colony PCR and normal boring restriction enzyme digests) I thought not.

1000 cranesThis one is in the nontraditional fashion. I've made 2000 more and for each done them in the traditional, 50 per strand with 20 strands of unfolded cranes.[Edited on December 30, 2009 at 5:53 PM. Reason : .]

i made my mom a cheap table to put her new tv on with a shelf. it's definitely built for function instead of form, but it's sturdy and it cost me less than $20 to build.

Nifty, someone else doing papercraft and origami stuff. I'm working on a new origami project now.
1/25/2010 12:45:55 AM
Oh do share! I've started on another 1000 cranes, but it's a bit tedious to say the least and I've gotten quite bored from it, so I've taken a break for the last 6 months or so I need to get back to finishing it. After having made 4 sets so far, I'm ready to complete this and be done. I've got about 700 more cranes to fold before I start stringing them up
1/25/2010 7:52:09 AM
Nice Type R
1/25/2010 8:30:03 AM
I'm starting up the crane thing too! I'm about 500 in. I'm debating when I'm done if I should do something random...1000 origami dachshunds or something.

Not everyone looks in the garage, so...It wasn't that bad to make really. Time consuming, yes. It took just less than 1 hour to cut the templates out and about 3.5 hours to glue and fold. I used some of the basic techniques I've learned from making other paper model cars and tried applying it here. The only difference is much more time is needed, especially since the bonding surfaces are MUCH smaller. I took my time to make sure I did this properly. For my first attempt, not too bad imo. Next time, I'll be sure to use better tools/techniques to get the paper folded, especially on the curvy portions of the model.

Nice!make an old school STi coupe
1/25/2010 6:34:20 PM
Oh you mean this car? Already on it... Well, I've gotten a template, which is more complicated/detailed than the RS2.7. I don't know when I'll have time to complete it though I don't get free time like this hardly ever anymore [Edited on January 25, 2010 at 8:20 PM. Reason : .]

I found this piece at my grandma's. It was an ugly, spray painted gold with ancient hardware. I sanded it down, primed, painted, and put on new hardware. A small project to pass time during the winter.http://s362.photobucket.com/albums/oo63/memagier/?action=view¤t=Dresser2.jpg

Two recent origami bits. The first is conjoined cubes; they move freely but are entangled. The other is a dodecahedron made from 30 pairs of equilateral triangles.I just finished the design for a larger flat piece that I'm going to hang on the wall in my office. It's going to be a tiling of origami pieces that display four different representations of the golden ratio. I'm pretty happy with how the design turned out, but it's going to take a few months in my spare time to assemble; all told, it requires 104 large units that take about 20 minutes each to fold, and 187 smaller units that are used to join the larger pieces together.

I made a ramp for the shed using 2x6 treated lumber. Not bad considering all I had was a circular saw and a cordless drill. A table saw would have made life much easier, but I managed. I'm VERY happy with the outcome, even though it did take 6 hours and 2 trips to lowes. yay, now I can get my riding lawn mower out with ease! [Edited on August 9, 2010 at 7:53 PM. Reason : .a]

I made this like a month ago, but forgot to post it...Next time I do this, I'll use 100# cardstock. Regular 20# paper just isn't rigid enough for this kind of work. Everything was looking great until the bumpers had to be attached. The bumpers weren't made as well as the rest of the body, alas, it came out like it's seen a few Rally-X events in it's day [Edited on September 1, 2010 at 9:55 PM. Reason : haha]
