i just saw one from lee fieldthey will still be going tomorrow night/wednesday morning too, right? that's when my group is driving outside raleigh, tonight just wasn't going to work
11/17/2009 1:08:47 AM
That's making me thing I should choose Falls lake over Jordan. Not having Raleigh directly to the east will probably make for a better view.
11/17/2009 1:09:34 AM
^ when and from where are you leaving? mind a tag along (no homo) ?
11/17/2009 1:20:49 AM

11/17/2009 1:24:38 AM

do you have a destination in mind?
11/17/2009 1:29:56 AM
^
11/17/2009 1:30:11 AM
None whatsoever. As long as you can get me out of these damn lights I won't be picky.
11/17/2009 1:30:37 AM

11/17/2009 1:31:32 AM
i cant find the leo constellation
11/17/2009 2:00:03 AM
I've got a friend out in Clayton who says she's been out for a while and hasn't seen anything yet. I may wait until 3 or 3:30 to head out.
11/17/2009 2:02:55 AM
so when are we really supposed to start seeing shit, I keep hearing different stories, 4am, 330, etc.
11/17/2009 2:46:16 AM
I saw a few
11/17/2009 2:46:25 AM
ok jk. i cannot stay up until 4am. maybe i will set my alarm but i dunno - i live in a pretty bright spot[Edited on November 17, 2009 at 2:53 AM. Reason : .]
11/17/2009 2:47:38 AM
since i live in charlotte i drove out to lake wiley from about 1:45-2:30am. i saw ONE the whole time and i don't think my camera caught it. i ended up leaving because the clouds were coming in. bummer dude.
11/17/2009 3:09:55 AM
bedtime. walked out a few time but saw nothing.
11/17/2009 3:20:27 AM
didn't see shit
11/17/2009 4:14:05 AM
I laid out behind an apartment complex in Cary trying to put buildings between me and the god damned street lights. There was way too much light pollution for me to see anything so I gave up after an hour and a half. It was cool being the only thing moving around at 4 am, but the leaves falling off trees kept making me think someone was sneaking up on me.
11/17/2009 4:21:30 AM
went down to the Ag fields off Tryon... stayed about 2 hours and I think I saw about 15 or 16
11/17/2009 4:32:09 AM
A friend texted me to let me know they were out at Lake Johnson, so I went out there instead of driving to Falls Lake or Jordan Lake. Saw a few good ones, and several smaller, dimmer ones. It was better than I was expecting being in the middle of the Raleigh/Cary city lights.
11/17/2009 4:36:10 AM
I was up at Blue Jay Point Park, got there around 3:15, stayed for about 45 minutes, and saw around a dozen. 3 or 4 were really bright blue-green. Unfortunately I didn't get any on camera
11/17/2009 4:36:29 AM
anyone get any good pictures?
11/17/2009 4:36:36 AM
Quinn was good enough to give me a ride out to near abouts Angier. Pretty fucking good show, if I do say so myself. The combination of big meteors, howling dogs, and crowing roosters was borderline psychedelic. If I'd been on drugs, I probably would have shit myself.
11/17/2009 4:54:54 AM
I'm still a little curious as to how only the one dog was creating an echo.....Next time we bring more beer .
11/17/2009 5:04:36 AM
And dog muzzles, and my chicken-killin' knife.
11/17/2009 5:05:42 AM
I went out to Clayton and I saw around 12-18 between 2am-4am. Honestly, I was expecting a lot more, but in retrospect, it was easily the best shower I've ever seen. Past showers I only saw 1 or 2 maybe.[Edited on November 17, 2009 at 8:38 AM. Reason : -]
11/17/2009 8:37:49 AM
Went down near Trailwood in the Ag test fields. Only saw a few from like 2-3am, then we packed it in.
11/17/2009 8:48:10 AM
in my front yard on st mary's i stayed from 1:30 to 2:30 and saw about 5.
11/17/2009 8:57:25 AM
we had completely clear skies in westfield (stokes county, west near va border) and saw a few strays and then 4am hit and the clouds came rolling in, saw a few that were bright enough to shine through the clouds, maybe 10 total all night
11/17/2009 9:01:19 AM
woke up at 0500, saw 3 then went back to bed until sun up
11/17/2009 9:49:26 AM
woke up around 3:45, went outside and it was too cloudy where I was...so I went back inside to bed. ha
11/17/2009 9:50:47 AM
So I'm going to plan ahead for the Geminids in December instead of half-assing it at the last second.
11/17/2009 10:57:18 AM
^remind me!
11/17/2009 11:00:31 AM
I will be going to that as well. Hopefully, I will see more than a dozen at that shower, otherwise the Leonid shower will still be the best I've seen ever.
11/17/2009 11:19:05 AM
yeah...fuck trying another meteor shower
11/17/2009 11:36:44 AM
lol, I think it's just cool. It's interesting to know that the meteors aren't running into us; we're plowing through them. The spot in the sky where the meteors are "coming from" is actually the direction that we're rocketing through the universe. It's neat to just lay on the ground and realize that everything is flying that way.
11/17/2009 12:03:50 PM
last night's Big Bang incorporated the Leonid shower into the show And ^that point, too.
11/17/2009 12:18:24 PM
got to my dads just after midnightso little light pollution out there the stars were spectacularit was a great showquite a few of them had some impressive glowing trails that lingered a bit.
11/17/2009 12:20:11 PM
^where was that?and does anyone know if tonight will provide good viewing?
11/17/2009 1:10:04 PM
Had a great viewing last night! Went out to falls lake for a bit but got creeped so we left. Ended up spending half the night watching from the hot-tub and the rest in a kick ass bed-fort I built on the deck. Saw quite a few little meteors and a couple of excellent ones. One in particular looked like it probably made landfall somewhere. It seemed like it would come in spurts though. We we see 5 and then nothing for 20 minutes, see 3 then nothing for half hour, ect.
11/17/2009 1:59:21 PM
these are caused by the earth moving through comet debris trails, (inclination and declinations increase and/or decrease rate and density of the meteors seen, age also has something to do with it as well...i wonder if there is a map that would show the historical trails of all the comets, or at least the ones that come near earth... so as to predict future big shows?there has to be... but i can't really find much information on it...

11/17/2009 3:51:14 PM
What time were you people out watching?
11/17/2009 4:06:17 PM
We got out there around 2, stayed until a little after four. Didn't see a great number of them, but the quality of the ones we saw were generally excellent.
11/17/2009 5:19:12 PM
would we still be able to see some tonight or did i miss it?
11/17/2009 6:01:30 PM
as long as its not cloudy in your area you should still see some
11/17/2009 6:37:24 PM
set em up
