man i thought you guys were nitpicking about leona lewis, but that trailer would awesome on mute. that music annoyed the crap out of me. sounded like a mariah carey song in the background.

Advertisement on Comedy Central just now.Might actually have to finally get a 360 just for this.
3/3/2010 12:28:37 AM
nuked release leaked. I wonder if I could still play it on my banned xbox -- or is this pretty much MMO type shit by now? I haven't played FF since VII and VIII.
3/3/2010 12:43:50 AM
Na its RPG. XIV however is going back to being MMO.
3/3/2010 1:21:24 AM
i don't like what i've heard about it being extremely linear with no towns
3/3/2010 2:50:31 AM
Why would you get it for xbox360 instead of ps3? I haven't seen any cross-platform reviews yet, but I would expect the graphics at least to be better on ps3 with less compression, and FFXIII Versus will be on PS3 only.
3/3/2010 12:07:07 PM
Maybe he doesn't have a PS3
3/3/2010 12:11:14 PM
Right, but he's saying he might finally get a 360, so he doesn't have a 360 either. I'm wondering why, if you're going to get a console to play this, you would choose the 360 instead of a ps3.
3/3/2010 2:37:50 PM
I still don't know who you're talking about

A few days ago +70% of the PS3s worldwide quit working for 24 hours. I think that's reason enough on its own. I actually thought the timing of that ordeal in relation to the release of FFXIII made it even worse for Sony.Having said that, I intend to buy the PS3 version so my brother can borrow it when I'm done.

really? still with the ps3 vs xbox smack talk?

To be fair, anyone throwing the ApocalyPS3 in PS3 owners' faces after years of the Red Ring of Death needs to get knocked down to size.[Edited on March 3, 2010 at 4:32 PM. Reason : Post #45,000.]

3/3/2010 4:34:33 PM
And to be clear, I wasn't trying to stir the pot at all. I haven't read anything indicating FFXIII would be better on either platform, so I was asking a genuine question in case he had some info I hadn't seen about it yet.
3/3/2010 5:36:30 PM
For the record I have neither. I do have a PS2. While traditionally I am a PS guy, with PS3, this is the only game Id care to play on it. With 360, there are a few other games Id get/play if I had one, but none to make me get the console just to play it, other than this one. That and they are pushing the 360 more with this. Its long been said the PS3 needs a FF game just for it to really sell it. Its one of the big reasons the PS1 and 2 were so successful, as FF was only on them. Its good that its successful now on its own, but it really needed one to open it up and I personally think it would be beating even the Wii then. </ PSfanboyrant>

Ive never been called a troll. Since when are facts trolling?
3/4/2010 1:19:47 PM
because 8 is the worst. the story is ok, but the battle system sucks, and the character development is weak as hell.
3/4/2010 1:57:28 PM
I've been re-playing X for the last few weeks. I like that one for the story, along with it's an easy game to pick back up and I like the non-time based system so I can casually play and not stress out.I remember back in the day when I logged 88 hrs on that game and still hadn't done "everything". Currently about 30hrs in and still somewhat entertaining.I'm definetely looking forward to this game!
3/4/2010 2:25:32 PM
im getting this for ps3have a 360 but since it was developed for the ps3 primarily i think it's the best choicethat and playing a FF game on the 360 would be weird
3/4/2010 2:27:40 PM
^^ X is the only final fantasy where random battles didn't become an absolute chore for me late in the game because i liked doing shit on the sphere grid
3/4/2010 2:39:38 PM
old snes fan boys used to think playing it on playstation was weirdthose bastards never gave FFVII the gushing it deserved because all they could think about was jerking off on their FFIII (American) cartridges
3/4/2010 2:57:06 PM
3/4/2010 3:14:36 PM
i still think III (VI) had the best character development of any final fantasy thus far
3/4/2010 3:37:10 PM
i played VI after VIIi wish they would remake both and forget making new ones cuz they've all sucked since X

it looks like the reponse to this game should be very interesting, i just read the gamespot review and they said it's very linear, it looks like they are putting the entire focus on battle to do something new

I don't ding games for linearity. Sandbox is the big buzzword for any game now, but there a lot of ways to get a sandbox game all wrong. If a game tells a linear story but it's a damn good one, I don't care. I'm sure it will play out in actuality similar to most other FF games: less restrictive than FFX-2, but more restrictive than FFXII. Sidequests only became a big deal from FFVII and beyond, but most of them have always been towards the end of a story anyway (with the major exceptions being stuff like the card games and blitzball that are less sidequest and more mini-game).
3/5/2010 4:52:49 PM
3/5/2010 5:03:17 PM
I just don't get the linearity complaints. FF games have always been linear. When it comes to completing the main quest, there is only one path to take. You have this giant world map, but most of the time, there is only one place for you to go. The side quests give you something else to do, but it's really just a form of grinding. Some of the reviews have nailed it in saying all they've done is remove the illusion of non-linearity.
3/5/2010 5:18:58 PM
I don't care much for sidequests anyway. Most of the time they're more tedious than anything. I usually want to get to the next plot point and only resort to sidequests when the game is over and I'm like MOAR.^True, in FF VI you can do just about anything once you get the airship in the World of Ruin.
3/5/2010 5:28:58 PM
True about VI, now that I think of it. I guess having playable characters that are optional and unlockable as a side quest qualifies as major. Still mostly the focus towards the end of the game though, which sounds like it's still the case. I think the griping by reviewers is solely based on expectations from previous iterations of the franchise, though, and not based on judging the game on its own merits. I liked how the gamespot review acknowledged this and still said the linear quality of the game was what made the storyline so engaging. Wired has a much more scathing review on their site, but it sounded like their reviewer was simply turned off by the changes and was viewing everything through a more negative angle from the get-go because of it.[Edited on March 5, 2010 at 5:42 PM. 3/5/2010 5:35:04 PM
sheesh didn't you i don't care about sidequests people play ff7? the golden saucer alone was freaking awesome, and the gamespot review said everything was streamlined, ie even the leveling and customization, plus they aren't even doing towns anymore
3/5/2010 8:22:53 PM
i'm not going to lie, i really like linear games. will be picking this up for ps3.
