i really wish the little boy would have died a horrible death during the "bust a move" crash scene
4/22/2010 2:50:13 PM
Because it's true, it's not racist?I guess the church bombing in Birmingham wasn't racist, either.
4/22/2010 2:52:15 PM
^x4 I agree with what he said. I saw this movie a few months ago when my girlfriend got to pick the movie (she usually likes good movies, but I guess sometimes she gets in the mood for a corny chick flick) and both of us thought it was awful and so subliminally racist it wasn't funny. You kids need to watch The Wire; it will change the way you look at these things.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 2:54 PM. Reason : .]
4/22/2010 2:53:52 PM
^^OK that's not what I meant. I mean, the movie is not a racist piece of fiction. It's an accurate depiction of something racist that happened.]
4/22/2010 2:54:46 PM
It's a romanticized version of a magical negro movie in reverse.Fuck this piece of shit flick.
4/22/2010 2:56:39 PM
^^It's a racist depiction of something racist that happened.
4/22/2010 2:57:43 PM
you can only be nice to black folk the way we like, otherwise you're a racist
4/22/2010 3:00:19 PM
The relationship between the little white kid and the main character reminds me of Huck and Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. A white kid who is much younger than the black character and the black character are portrayed as equals. There's something racist in the roots of that, no matter what else happens. People still debate over whether Twain's depiction was intentional or whether he was a little bit racist himself and I guess that argument could take place for this movie as well. But I tend to think Mark Twain had a better sense of the subconscioius actions of his work then whoever wrote this piece-of-garbage movie.^That's not it. You have to accept minorities as equals, without it initially being conditional. Otherwise, there is some racism in what you're doing. Judging people by their actions, however, is another debate.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 3:03 PM. Reason : .]

^Worst argument ever.
4/22/2010 3:04:31 PM
.....i'm sorry, did that make it look like i was trying to argue with you people? i liked the movie. i'm sorry if some of you didn't. i don't feel any reason to justify why i liked it. have fun bickering.
4/22/2010 3:05:34 PM
You don't have to justify liking it. I like Faulkner and he's tremendously racist. That doesn't excuse not recognizing it for what it is.
4/22/2010 3:10:00 PM
4/22/2010 3:14:11 PM
^^I recognized it as racist in my post at the top of this page. What more do I need to say?
4/22/2010 3:15:25 PM
People keep making this argument about it being racist because it took a white family to make a black guy successful. Here is the chain of events:1) White family takes in black guy who has no home. Due to this "upbringing" he is able to avoid falling into the same fate of the vast majority of poor, black people from the area where he is from (True Story)2) Michael Lewis, an author who has made a name for himself by being as honest as possible, writes a book about this true story.3) Hollywood then makes a movie, based on the book (pretty accurately), which is based on a true story.WHAT IS RACIST?
4/22/2010 3:18:56 PM
4/22/2010 3:23:14 PM
^^So, essentially, your argument boils down to this:1) The Blind Side is based on a true story.2) Michael Lewis is an honest writer.3) The movie followed the book pretty accurately. Therefore, the movie is not racist. Did I miss something? Is there not racism in real life?
4/22/2010 3:29:02 PM
I didn't say there is no racism in life, I'm simply asking someone to point out what is racist about the actions that occurred
4/22/2010 3:30:04 PM
4/22/2010 3:43:35 PM
oh right...I forgot that the family probably risked bringing a big homeless black kid into their home so that one day a movie would be made and everyone would see how savage black people still are
4/22/2010 3:46:13 PM
I'm pretty sure they "risked" bringing him into their home because they were huge Ole Miss boosters and they thought he could help bring the Ole Miss football program back to prominence. Also, I haven't seen the movie but in the previews it definitely seemed like the white characters talked down to the Michael Oher character, like he was a retard incapable of understanding complex thoughts.
4/22/2010 3:48:37 PM
This is such a retarded argument...they have a 15 year old daughter, younger son, and all kinds of valuable shit in their house. And people think they would bring in a giant homeless kid into their house on the slight offchance that he might become an incredible football player? Wow

I stand corrected on the football argument. I still don't believe they would risk what they risked simply based on that...but that isn't what I'm arguing here anyways. As for him being talked down to by other people..
4/22/2010 4:07:21 PM
I don't know anything beyond what I saw in the movie. That's what I'm going by. I'm not going to read up on this guy's history so I can debate with you clowns. I've banged my head against a wall enough as it is. This isn't Soap Box. It's Entertainment.A++ movie. Will buy when it's on DVD.Peace out.
4/22/2010 4:08:04 PM
Already been on DVD for a month already stupidass
4/22/2010 4:15:21 PM

i'm about to watch this shitand i don't give a fuck if its racist or not, i heard it was good
12/27/2010 8:01:16 PM
Sandra Bullock hasn't been in a good movie in like 6 years
12/27/2010 8:30:51 PM
this is not a good movie.I mean, just poorly acted, predictable.the story can't even save it.
12/27/2010 9:18:48 PM
i'm about an hour in, and i am enjoying it
12/27/2010 9:36:11 PM
I watched it, and enjoyed it. I thought the movie was a little condescending, bordering on racist. BUT anyone who thinks the Touhy's were anything less than great people are fools. The fact is they brought a stranger who needed help into their home, and treated him like a son.
12/27/2010 9:53:46 PM
was the movie racist, or just were there people in the movie who were racist? for example, in his first high school game, #66 and his dad were clearly racist...Bullock's lunch friends were racist...but I'm just enjoying the movie because its a good movie and a good storytakin a quick break to watch the 'NC State Spotlight' on FSN right now...on until 11![Edited on December 27, 2010 at 10:12 PM. 12/27/2010 10:06:31 PM
Yea, I dont think the movie is racist because it shows people being racist....
12/27/2010 10:13:32 PM
i'm saying:are the directors and producers personally racists, who are projecting racism when they make the film?or is the movie trying to be factual, and part of that is by showing people who are racists?cause in the former, i'd consider the movie 'racist', in the latter i'd say they were just keeping it realis the movie Roots racist? or is it a movie that shows how racist people were? cause i think there is a huge difference]
12/27/2010 10:19:41 PM
nobody was arguing the movie was racist because there were racist characters in it
12/27/2010 10:22:50 PM
^from reading through the thread, i think there actually were people who thought that...ie vinyl and spookyunless they were just familiar enough with the situation first hand to think the producers embellished for the purpose of racismmy main thing is, racism exists, its shown in the movie, but the movie is really good so far imo]

This movie details a serious topic in the South - should we be more scared of black people or our alma mater sucking at football?
12/27/2010 10:46:26 PM
just finished it...i enjoyed the movie...haters gonna hate though
