I've been able to play a few games, but it is pretty frustrating...

Pretty fun once you figure out how the controls work.

apparently
a) half of the people can't connect
b) the half that can don't really like MP the way it is in the demo

Yeah, the demo uses matchmaking instead of a server list. It's kind of annoying when the host quits because the migration doesn't seem to work.

They really got the feel right for the Marines and Predators. The sounds and visuals are perfect, from the pinging of the motion sensor to the heat vision wipe.

Music to my ears. I couldn't care any less about the aliens.

I also couldn't connect to a game last night, but I only tried for about 5 minutes before stopping for the night. Hopefully I'll get a chance today.

Don't let the connectivity/matchmaking dissuade you from the full version.

Rebellion says that the full version will have dedicated servers, server lists, and hosting enabled.

And in a completely unrelated note, I can't wait to sneak past your motion sensors and feast on the warm goo within your skull.

Demo maps are horrible to show this off on, I mean really.

Dunno, though controls were kind of wonky, and the aliens are underpowered.

^^What? I think the aliens are the most useful.

If anything, the Predators are piles of crap. You don't spawn with any distance weapons, and your melee usually loses to the alien.
Marines at least have the ability to shoot you from a distance at spawn.

That said, I still can't get the hang of the wall-walking button. It just seems too inconsistent.

The fans on my 8800gt sound like they're going to take off when I play this game. Just ordered a GTS 250 to replace it so I can play this game without worrying about melting my computer.

Once I got a hang of the controls, this game just absolutely blew my socks off.

The Predator seems a little clunky at times, but jesus christ, Aliens are

aliens are fuckin beast right now. predator is really good if you can play it really well and have the long range razor blades. marines need a little speed boost and a little less health though.

Throwing spear destroys everything with predator!

Completely dislike the awkwardness of jumping with an alien. You end up on walls an ceilings you had no intension of going on.

And the fact you cant just load a single player map to figure out the controls is blah.....shwatever

Everything involving melee damage completely disorients you. So you cant tell where the enemy is. So, essentially it boils down to whoever gets the first hit off between two melee classes. And if you can get a melee hit on a marine before he shoots you.

Block against other melee classes, spam melee Marines.

I love the Predator, only because I've gotten really used to him. Marine is fun but easy to get overwhelmed.

Not a huge fan of alien right now.

How do you trophy kill someone? I haven't played alien yet, but I have been amused that in several situations an alien player has managed to get a melee hit (or even two) on me, and I turn around and gun him down before he can finish me off. Do Marines or Predators suffer splash damage from killing an alien at close range?

Usually you gotta sneak up on someone from behind and it'll give you the option to "Grab" them by pushing X. I'm not sure the exact specifications on getting the option to do it but that's when it usually comes up.

I freakin love the Aliens. Sprinting all over everything is a blast.

I noticed that the reticule for the alien will change depending on what it is targeting. If you are looking at a wall and the reticule gets the extra tips on it (looks almost like the batman signal) you can push A to jump to that surface. I think pushing RT and A together makes to transition to the ceiling automatically.

IGN UK gives it an 8.5, sounds better than the 5.8 given above. Kinda short write up though.

All pre-release reviews are shit. Try the demo. Turn off the lights.

When I cloaked and a marine ran past me and I ripped his spine out, that's when I said "sold".

All 3 species are a blast to play. You need about an hour with the alien to get really good at maneuvering. Wall crawling is great, and being able to leap from wall to wall makes it easy to get around and in position to fuck people up with your tail.

If there are a shit ton of marines, I'll play predator. If there are a shit ton of predators I'll play alien. If there are a shit ton of aliens, I'll play marine (or alien when there's team DM).

Predators are great against marines and pretty decent against aliens. It's just tough to fight both at the same time. Aliens can see you even when you're cloaked and stationary, but you can fuck them up from far away, but that gives your position away to the humans who can also fuck you up from far away.

Aliens are great against everything if they can find a good out of the way spot to lurk and leap out when someone runs by, then speed off to another safe spot. Focus + Light Attack ftmfw. Wall tail also ftmfw.

Marines fucking rock. The motion detector is both awesome and suck at the same time. Just shoot anything that moves or looks like it moves and you'll be fine.

The demo is "trial by fire" since it is ONLY multiplayer. If you get the game you at least can play single player and learn the ropes a bit.

I'll have to try auto transition with the alien. I got good getting around before if its not already on.

Playing a Marine is so god damn awesome when you know that blip on your motion detector closing in will fuck your world if you're not on a hair trigger reaction

I can't wait for the release so we can play actual species-DM. When we had the honor system going in a few matches it was nuts. I would find a marine, get on the level below him and fuck with his motion tracker while the real attacker snuck up on his level and wrecked him. then we both hissed over his corpse and ran off to find the next meat sack.

I watched smoothcrim play last night, and I'm pretty interested in it now. I imagine the Alien perspective makes a bit more sense when you're in control, but watching him transition from floor to wall to ceiling was mind-boggling. I hardly ever play multiplayer games, so I'm curious about how the single player campaigns will measure up.

It takes about an hour of doing it to get acclimated to turn the ceiling and walls into the "floor". Aliens should never run on the floor.

I can't wait to see some maps that have vents and crap for us to run into.

Question: can the smartgun "see" stationary cloaked predators? I keep getting shot at when I'm standing still and I'm just wondering if they spotted my distortion or that smartgun locked in..

I think it can. I'm really debating on getting an adapter box to have keyboard and mouse for xbox/ps3. I've been getting into fps's on console a lot lately but the lack of precision is extremely frustrating

Hmm... I can't decide. I want the box and whatever it comes with, so I want to buy it on amazon or in a store. But if I buy it on steam I don't need to worry about losing or forgetting the DVD, since I can just log into steam anywhere and the game downloads. What is everyone else doing?

getting this for console most likely. I might buy it again on pc for the multiplayer if the community develops but pc gaming outside of rts's and mmo's is in a pretty sad state.

Does not compute. Options -> Controls -> Configure Keyboard Controls. They are as clunky as you make them. Unless you're talking about mechanics, which still doesn't compute.

I want the facehugger to put in my cube, so I'm going to go see if I can pick up the Hunter edition tomorrow.
