I would love you forever if we could regularly get them together to romp. She needs the exercise and I'm so jealous of your fenced in yard.

I mean it. I'd want to observe them together at first, but if they get along, you can just drop her off whenever you need to.

for training tips, there's nothing better than watching The Dog Whisperer on Natl. Geographic. I wouldn't try some of the stuff (aggressive dogs etc) but the advice for walking and training is spot on.

Rule number one, above all else!!! A tired dog is a well-behaved dog. Walk it every day for at least 30 min, better yet an hour. If he doesn't get out his energy on a walk, he'll get it out by destroying your stuff.

PS he is a CUTIE!!!

He got the snip yesterday. He's got to stay inside for the next 7-10 days...and we don't know if/how well he's house-trained, so he spent last night in a bathroom so small that my husband has fainted while on the toilet and not had room to fall off.

He is so not a happy camper and is disrupting our sleep, but watching him klutz around with that e-collar is so funny it's almost worth losing sleep.

He looks like a puppy!

The one on the left is humandrive and Lutra's malamute, Tanuk; Glacier in the middle, and our neighbor's husky/malamute mix

Playing with Tanuk, in case you couldn't tell

I put peanut butter on him

I <3 him soooooo much. It is still surprising how damn sweet he is, ALL THE TIME.
He's warmed up to car rides in my car, too. Now I open the door, he hops in, and settles either on the floor behind my seat, or curled up in the rear passenger seat.

It's so cool to have a dog that's young, can hear, and does stuff. (As opposed to my husband's decrepit, ailing fogey dog)

i fucking hate old dogs

they never do anything, all they do is love you and reinforce the emotional connection you have with them that defines why you would have a dog in the first place

stupid old dogs

^^ Kevin (old doc) doesn't live outside; Glacier does now. Hopefully once the house is big dog proofed, he can live inside too though

^ While I still love Kevin, it is sooo nice to have a dog that can hear, isn't covered in age spots/moles that bleed constantly/wants to play. Kevin is a great lap dog though, he'll cuddle with the best of them.

does he live outside or inside or both?

how does kitty like him?

or maybe the better question, is how does he like kitty?

both

he's curious about the cat, and she tolerates him for very, very brief periods of time, when she's up on a perch that gives her more than an inch or two on him; otherwise, she gets violent - she's chased him from the bedroom, snarling, hissing, and all claws out. She's terrified of him.

They seem to have more or less come to an agreement: she'll stay up on her perch in the kitchen, he'll sniff her for a quick second, and then he's onto other things. She just watches him very carefully.

Maybe Mudpup would have been a better name. Or Piggy. He loves all this rain, and the mud. Holy shit

It's a very good thing we aren't lawn enthusiasts.

He is baffled by the snow.

He keeps trying to back away from it, but also to attack/investigate it.

Does. Not. Want.

You should pronounce his name like the british do, short 'a', 's' sound instead of 'sh', and three syllables instead of two:
"GLAssiER"

you should probably get rid of the husky or the cat

huskies have a very strong prey drive and even if you socialize it with the cat at a very young age, you never know when or if you'll come home to find the cat eviscerated

Oh, his point is that with huskies being very predatory, 'getting along fine' is no guarantee of safety.

Which is very true - even though all Glacier wants to do with Mindy is play (which she is having NONE of lol), we know better than to leave those two unsupervised alone. But, apparently, he doesn't know how to crate a dog or that dogs can go outside, and so thinks that no one else does, either.

without knowing your and zorthage's schedule or how you feel about crating an adult dog for close to 8 hours while both of you go to work or that you'd just leave him in the back yard i made a judgment call on advice

you yourself said you haven't had many dogs so i figured you might not know about the strong prey drive, I know someone who got a husky as a pup and raised it around her cats, it always seemed to be fine, then one day she came back to find one of them dead so i figured i'd let you know about that

maybe my advice shouldn't have just been to get rid of him, but huskies are very high energy dogs, hell they're bred as working dogs, are you two going to be able to take him on long walks/runs every day or will he just stay in the back yard

and for the record I do know how to crate a dog and how to just let one outside, and if you're just going to leave a high energy dog in the crate all day, expect some behavioral problems from the cooped up energy

awwww

i'm scared to take mine to the dog park. not because she's mean or anything - she loves other dogs. but that is part of the problem. she thinks EVERYONE wants to play with her. she learned her lesson recently though when she tried to play with a bitchy pomeranian that almost bit her face off. she ran all the way back to the door with her tail between her legs!

and as much as i'd LIKE to assume that everyone who takes their dogs to the dog part can follow the rules (control their dog) and don't have vicious dogs, it totally isn't true. SIGH. but i'm going to try it tomorrow hopefully and see how it goes. i will let you know. OR you should bring glacier
