they're hardly the little guy
10/30/2009 12:40:39 PM
In terms of personal computing (OS) they are.
10/30/2009 12:43:16 PM
Everyone is tired of people hyping the shit out of their products especially when they're really awful (like their mice).
10/30/2009 12:51:31 PM
except they aren't really awful.
10/30/2009 1:02:42 PM
yea they are. The mighty mouse is absolutely terrible. The magic mouse isnt as bad, but its still crap compared to a decent mouse from logitech or microsoft.
10/30/2009 1:08:13 PM
Okay, but that's just an opinion. Can we unwad the panties, please?
10/30/2009 1:42:21 PM
haha...i love shaggy posts. They're always so amusing and bitter about everything.
10/30/2009 1:48:19 PM

who makes mice without right buttons?
11/1/2009 10:49:30 AM
^^i have that mouse. works like a champ. i have Expose on the thumb button. although something with horizontal scrolling would be nice
11/1/2009 11:07:06 AM
^^ and ^^^ are we talking about the same mouse? Apple's mice have had right clicks for years now. I guess they're just too complicated for some people to use since you can't see a physical outline around a right click button and a left click button so you don't get the two confused. Sounds like a personal problem to me.
11/1/2009 2:30:45 PM
^^^^ thats the exact mouse i got for my new iMacright click is fucking horrible on mac mice. you have to click in the FAR top right corner of the mouse to get it to work; not just on the right side of the mouse where a button would be.Its a joke[Edited on November 1, 2009 at 2:48 PM. Reason : *]
11/1/2009 2:46:47 PM
they dont have 2 mouse buttons. They have one button that works differently based on how many fingers you have on the mouse. If you want to right click you have to lift up your index finger to click. Not only is this unnatural, but it means you cant ever click both buttons at once.
11/1/2009 2:48:37 PM
ok i used to hate macs but then i started getting pissy with windows because well.... it didn't work well i kept having little errors that i had to get over and live with. So i switched to linux for a while then my pc died. I've been tossing around the idea of developing iphone aps so i reluctantly got a mac. in the 48 hours i've had this thing i like it better than any pc i've ever owned. i was going cheap so i got a 13.3" macbook pro for cheap cause i got it from a campus store here at unc charlotte ( cheaper than i could get the new macbook anywhere else ) i love this thing... the only think i miss from a regular pc based laptop is the "value" for the same price i could have got a quad core hp with a bitchen graphics card. But i have no doubt that other than raw processor intensive stuff this thing boots faster comes out of sleep mode instantly.I just wish it had an hdmi port which i know i can get an adapter from monoprice. And i can't find a way to rig up my old hd dvd player to it and to the tv since my xbox died.the multitouch touchpad rocks too.[Edited on November 1, 2009 at 3:13 PM. Reason : god i feel like the mac guy on tv :-\]
11/1/2009 3:11:25 PM
^ yeah, the most important thing to remember for new Mac users is that lots of things are "different", but that doesn't mean they're necessarily better or worse..... just different. You'll probably start running into certain tasks that were easy for you to do on the PC because you are so used to them, and you may get frustrated on the Mac because you can't figure it out. More often than not, though, when you do figure it out you'll say "oh wow, that was easy", and realize that the way you did it on the PC was actually more complicated
11/1/2009 3:22:02 PM
exactly... like a moron i couldn't figure out how to install something on this thing and all i had to do was drag it into the applications folder ... awesome.... Iphoto is way better than the windows version cause my 12megapixel images always locked it up.our wireless printer driver always fed up with vista. and works smooth as silk with the maci love the dashboard in comparison to the gadget bar.expose' is awesome... multiple desktops are awesome... Its like the perfect edition of linux... without all the hastle of shitty drivers written by hand and shitty wireless n capabilities. i love it.

razzle dazzle!

i have the same microsoft BT mouse displayed above...absolutely love it for use on my laptopat home, i have the MS 8000 laser BT mouse (with the 7000 BT keyboard) and love it, too
11/1/2009 4:54:18 PM
^^^ before you get too jazzed about how great installing apps is on Mac, give this a read, 1) so you can see some of the pitfalls, and 2) you might learn something for the future when you run into installation problems or questions http://joelion.com/2009/07/mac-app-installation/
11/1/2009 6:52:51 PM
yeah the un install thing had pissed me off... i know its not perfect but honestly.... my favorite feature is the fact that by the time i finish opening my notebook it is ready for me to do something.
11/1/2009 9:13:16 PM
btw, for uninstall, use AppCleaner - http://www.freemacsoft.net/AppCleaner/It will search your HDD and delete preferences and Library files and any other junk when you delete an app. You can use AppCleaner to delete the app, or it can run as a service so when you just trash an app normally, AppCleaner will pop up with all the other stuff to delete. And yes, the instant-on waking is awesome. I'm still surprised when I use a PC and open the lid and have to wait 5-10 seconds before I can use the screen, then another 10-15 seconds to reconnect to wireless. I've had several PC-user friends watch me open up my MBP and the screen is on by the time the lid is open, and the wireless is connected in about 3 seconds, and they always ask about it.

any idea if they gonna update the macbook pro 13" soon??? i heard something on macrumors and am willing to wait to buy the updated one!
11/2/2009 10:13:12 AM
i'd say macrumor's estimate of late 2009/early 2010 sounds about right.
11/2/2009 10:17:38 AM
I thought they just updated it with all the macbook pro's?
11/2/2009 11:15:35 AM
macbook pro's what?
11/2/2009 11:25:26 AM

11/2/2009 11:31:34 AM

11/2/2009 5:12:39 PM
^dude...windows moviemaker isn't free either because I had to buy a PC to get it.^^he's talking to me because I said iMovie was a free solution to editing videos if you have a Mac and movie maker is a free solution if you have a PC. But apparently that hurt noen's feelings.[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 5:28 PM. Reason : .]

^^You can get a PC for free.^service packs != unlocking functionality. And adding functionality to an OS is different from adding functionality to a hardware device. The iPod/iPhone have always put new functionality on the next hardware generation when things could have easily been added to the existing platform with software updates. The iPhone is the first to start adding real functionality with updates, but it's also a subsidized, subscription based revenue model. The Magic Mouse isn't.
11/2/2009 9:42:28 PM
^ based on what apple's doing with their accounting rules and the ipod touch, that isn't necessarily true going forward.
11/2/2009 10:09:17 PM
^^ The distinction between software functionality and hardware functionality is much more blurred than it used to be. Or if a new driver for the magic mouse (which BTW is such a shitty name) added new gestures would you say that doesn't count? Realistically, the only way to unlock new functionality in old hardware is to change the software that runs the hardware. But you also missed 3 points of new hardware functionality given to non subscription revenue items. The 802.11n enabler turned on hardware capabilities in devices that were not advertised or sold as having said capabilities. The software updates for the iPhone have also applied to the iPod touch which is not accounted for in a subscription model. And the new OS (and I could swear a firmware update for the old OS, but can not find a link) added newer gestures from newer hardware to older hardware.Your contention was Apple doesn't provide new features to old hardware via software updates. Your contention was disproved.

^^ yeah, i used to use AppZapper - it works fine too, almost identical to AppCleaner. But... AppCleaner is free. so, that solves that one
11/3/2009 12:46:04 AM
new gripe.... hd content playback is a bitch cause "hd downloads are the future" according to steveo.....yeah but in the here and now you only gave me 160 gigs and no one makes hd dvd player or blu-ray player software for a mac.
11/3/2009 8:24:44 AM
^I don't even know wtf you are trying to say?
11/3/2009 10:37:46 AM
What i'm saying is 160 gigs isn't shit to download and save hd content from the internet ( Which steve jobs beleives is the future of hd media and i agree ) and there is no blueray/hd-dvd player software for the Leopard that i can find.
11/3/2009 10:50:02 AM
^well I guess thats your fault? My laptops got 300gb and that isn't shit either for hd content, this is why I have a external drive with all my HD content.and before you try and say this is an apple vs. microsoft thing...its not. Doesn't matter what laptop you buy or from who...its your job to configure it with a big enough hard drive for your needs. And I would hope that apple wouldn't waste time on HD-DVD support...and as for blu-ray..get me a Mac that ships with blu-ray and i'm sure they'll add playback support.[Edited on November 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM.
