I'd much rather have Florida's program where winning is not only desired but expected in all three major sports (football, basketball, baseball).

What does this even mean? He's 44 and arguably one of the best coaches in the game with 11 straight 20-win seasons. His last two years ended with his teams being one of the "best ones out" and made the NIT final fours. He's made 3 NC championship games. They will be in the dance this year. If 25-11 and 9-7 in conference is a down year, then sign me up, because your homeboy Sidney Lowe hasn't even touched that.

We also lost to New Orleans. What's your point? It's not like we've been worth a shit the past 3 years. Go ahead and celebrate your awesome win over a terrible ACC team.

nah guys, it was def the ecu game

remember, duke is a good football team this year and richmond would be top 25 if they played d1a

duke loss is worse because you only play 12 football games in a season.

Stop trolling me because you were wrong fuckstick. Thad Lewis was 2nd-team ACC QB last year and is arguably the best this year and you didn't even have him in your top 5.

As for Richmond, I have no doubts they could beat us as well even though that's not saying much. I mean we are talking about a team that is better than App State. How about get some perspective dude?

yes, but it will take a few years of consecutive good performances in the NCAA tourny and rival wins to really get us back in it.

go >= .500 vs UNC and Duke
get to elite 8/sweet16 regularly and at least a final 4

do this for a few years (3-4) and we will start to get the really quality recruits to keep us there

until then too much is up in the air

wrong poster

i never made any lists though if I did he would've been 3rd or 4th. my claim was that being the 3rd best ACC QB didnt mean shit.

and im sure richmond could beat us a couple times if we played them 10 times. im pissed because they shouldnt, no matter how good they are for their division

it doesn't matter that they were our best 3 players if all they gave a shit about was filling up their stat sheets, and that is exactly what Mays said in that interview.

losing the "big 3" doesnt mean shit. turnover happens in college. the problem is we're replacing them with a bunch of freshmen who arent nba prospects and a smattering of guys we've already seen to be mediocre at best

right, because McCauley, Fells, and Costner are all playing in the NBA right now.

I think Painter, Howell and Vandenberg all could play professionally at some point anyway so that's a moot point as far as I'm concerned.

Tracy Smith is much better than mediocre, and CJ Williams and Mays have played very well at times they just need to be more consistent. I'm not saying we're going to be really good this year, but being relentlessly negative about the season at this point seems ridiculous.

McCauley, Fells and Costner's best ACC record was 6-10. Replacing them shouldn't be hard, which is what I was saying. The problem is that most of the guys who have the ability to do that are freshmen who aren't projected to go in the lottery next year (if we had John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins I might be singing a different tune, though you'd still have to expect some growing pains). Tracy Smith is a solid player, flawed because he's a poor defender, but solid. I think Williams has some upside and I like Mays, though he's flawed as well, but the point is you add up the whole team and if everything breaks the right way (and it already hasn't - Howell is injured and probably won't play until November) they maybe get 22 wins are on the NCAA bubble. When that's your ceiling, there isn't a whole lot to get optimistic about.

[Edited on October 20, 2009 at 2:44 PM. Reason : also if we're putting a mega tweener like Howell in the NBA i think Wood has a shot also]

Eh, I would put our ceiling a little higher just because the ACC is down this year, but you aren't that far off. Howell being injured right now isn't a big concern for me since, we don't play a legitimate opponent until the end of November (and it's Auburn). Plus I'm not saying you should be very optimistic, just that being so negative when we haven't played a game yet seems like a waste of your energy. Also I think our team chemistry will be significantly better now that the malcontents are finally gone.

Reasons for optimism

-The ACC will be weaker this year
-Tracy Smith was our best scoring threat last year and he's back
-The overall athleticism of the team is the highest it's been in years
-The team chemistry should be significantly improved
-I think Scott Wood is going to be a baller
-Guys like Javi, Mays, CJ, and JT are all high-effort, high-character guys. With another offseason to work out together, there should be some improvement
-There's no Costner or Fells to disappoint us (Ben never disappointed me because he never had their potential).

Reasons for pessimism

-On paper, we're a very average team. Smith is solid, but he's no star.
-PG should be a weak point again (though I have faith in Javi)
-We've got depth down low, but not much experience
-We're NC State ... shit is bound to happen

Does anyone hope Wood is a cocky asshole in the mold of Redick and Vasquez ?

Someone that we love but everyone else in the conference can't stand

We haven't had an asshole in a while

Guys, I've studied the tape. I got to say I honestly don't see us losing more than 4 games this year.

Slave Famous, from all accounts, Scott Wood is supposedly a great guy. The kind of guy that a father wants his daughter to date. While watching his highlight vids he never seemed to give off that cocky asshole vibe that Redick and Vasquez did. I think he'll be the kind of guy that the announcers like to say has "ice in his vein" or some other cliche saying.

Well to be fair, in the past all you have to do is be a white guy in the ACC and the opposing fans will hate you.

So, these guys don't have the talent they did or our new guys are giving more effort?

Also I would say Ben didn't disappoint because he always gave 100%. But I do disagree on your take on Fells. He played half the season with an injury most would not have. Fells problem was never effort, just a lack of aggression and desire. I don't know. I really think he had more talent than anyone that Sendek ever recruited. It was frustrating to watch him not take over games.
