I'm mad I have to apply to so many schools (including some of the same ones from last year) AGAIN... Not only was it a huge hit to the wallet, it's a huge time commitment and makes me crazy stressed. I'm mad that I have to explain to these schools "Yeah, this is my second time around" because that just further instills my feelings of failure from this past May when I had to hear "Yeah we thought you were good but um just not good enough so you're on the waiting list but OH WAIT everyone accepted this year, which rarely happens, so yeah sorry about that">.>but I'm sorry kadwackle, your situation really really sucks.

^^ it is apparently toxic to cats i think. it is a schefflera. and it was 6 months ago so i guess i need to move on!^ i feel your pain. i just hate the like, bureaucracy of school. so annoying.
10/8/2009 12:37:15 PM
IM MAD Nah not really just very hungry. I think its time for lunch
10/8/2009 12:38:19 PM
scheffleras are pretty tough though
10/8/2009 12:40:36 PM
^3 Agreed... It was just a huge ego crusher to hear "Hey, you beat out over 100 people to be in the top 7 picks!""Hey guess what, all of our people accepted so we don't need you, kthx, try again next year!" what really sucks is that I get mad at myself for being mad (not really at them, but the system itself I guess) because the people in that program are really awesome and I love it and want to go there even if it is pretty expensive.I just don't understand how these programs can't get more funding to take on more students. The average program has about 5 people per class, yet the profession was in top 10 jobs of 2009 and was listed in an article about the "future top 10 2012 hot jobs" >.<[Edited on October 8, 2009 at 12:42 PM. ^2 genetic counseling master's program
10/10/2009 6:20:47 PM
a lot, if not most, graduate school programs only take 3 or 4 people per year....
10/10/2009 6:23:26 PM
^ I never tried to make it seem like that's a rarity. I was just saying it's been in multiple articles talking about how the job is growing and is one of the best to have right now and in the future, yet they can't get more funding to allow more students.
10/10/2009 6:38:13 PM
that sounds really cool (the program)
10/10/2009 6:39:01 PM
Yeah I'm really excited about it it's a great field to be in now that the human genome project has finished and they're finding out more and more about our genetic map/make-up.. Now there are genetic counselors in prenatal, cancer, adult, pediatrics, muscular dystrophy, etc..
10/10/2009 6:43:33 PM
Listen bitch, don't get uppity with me...I'll cut your goddamn left tit off, and then you'll be walking around in circles for the rest of your life because you'll be lopsidedI was saying that most, if not all, graduate programs only select a few programs per year... so that they are ABLE to be selective. If it was easy to get your MS, then everyone would do it.It's also not as simple as increasing funding to accept more students. Accepting 1 more student usually means hiring 1 or 2 more professors per student, having at least 1 student graduate, etc...please.... just think of your boobs here. I'd hate to slice up such a nice pair [Edited on October 10, 2009 at 6:44 PM. Reason : also, is this at NCSU?]
10/10/2009 6:43:46 PM
^^what kind do you wanna be? what schools are you looking at?i am thinking of going back to school after law school (oops) for nursing. i decided i wanted to be a nurse practitioner - i should have just done that at first but i wasn't 100% committed until this year. now i KNOW that is what i wanna do. plus i can still use my law degree w/ a nursing degree.[Edited on October 10, 2009 at 6:45 PM. 10/10/2009 6:45:15 PM
girl you gonna be in school FOR-EV-ERRRRR
10/10/2009 6:48:15 PM
i know i know i knowwwww. but i don't wanna be a lawyer
10/10/2009 6:48:50 PM
^4 I know it's not easy to get more funding but the program sizes haven't really grown at all in a very long time and each year there is a bigger demand for it (except for only a few, like Sarah Lawrence, which takes about 20 people I think). Also, the problem isn't with them wanting to be super duper selective, it's that they don't have the money to take as many people as they want. During interviews we were told how they really would take at least 20 people if they could but them getting extra funding is a fat chance. The program I got wait listed for takes 5 people and they had over 100 applicants last year (I think it was somewhere around 130) - and apparently most of the applicants were good, and not just people applying for the sake of applying. You're silly. ^3 I think I would be the happiest in prenatal. Right now I'm looking at UNCG, USC, UMD, Mt. Sinai, and maybe: Northwestern, Sarah Lawrence, or Boston. But Boston is $Texas... My bff is a nurse and makes bank but she said nursing school was terrible[Edited on October 10, 2009 at 6:52 PM. Reason : inorite][Edited on October 10, 2009 at 6:52 PM. Reason : oh and EMCE -- no, not at NCSU... the only program in the state is at UNCG]
10/10/2009 6:51:44 PM
i am already used to terrible school haha - at least it would be something i WANT to do. sigh. stupid jobs!
10/10/2009 6:52:56 PM
funding comes from current professors earning grants, which comes from current professors not teaching... but writing/doing research that's the reason that schools are selective. shit isn't cheap for them eitherUNCG eh?Not sure about that program. But I know for some graduate programs at NCSU, they don't like to take the same graduate students that went to that school in undergrad. Far enough to even say they don't like people from the same state.[Edited on October 10, 2009 at 6:56 PM. Reason : my testicle hurts]

^2 yeah I got straight up rejected from there last year and later found out I was right near the cut off for interviews so that sucked... I think I'll have a much better chance this year. If you don't get in the first year then do what they want you to do in order to beef up your application it will greatly help the next year because to them it shows you really want it and are serious about it. (of course) ^ I love that picture
