dont you still piss yourself in your sleep?
10/21/2009 10:01:29 AM
i look forward to driving this car.
12/4/2009 10:28:41 PM
it reminds me of a VW Corrado from the back
12/5/2009 10:50:30 AM
Son of a bitch, looks like the design is changing

Rumors were false! Those damn sneaky Jap magazines Production version to be revealed at Geneva Auto Show
2/19/2010 3:51:39 PM
Still no production version... the same Concept shown at Geneva.Nice pics here: http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/toyota-ft-86-sports-concept-family-portrait/full/I am disappointed that there is not MR2 in that pic I posted (but they mentioned it in the accompanying press release). Also, they have the last Supra in that pic, but not the last Celica... they chose the ugly generation of Celica Picture is incomplete and inconsistent.
3/5/2010 5:42:00 PM
Yes, the picture is incomplete and inconsistent, however, I found that generation Celica to be more aesthetically appealing than the last gen...
3/5/2010 6:35:43 PM
^Agreed. Toyota feels the same way apparently.
3/5/2010 6:39:24 PM
^^It's not really an inconsistent photo. The MR2 is not shown b/c it's a 2 seater. The rest of those cars are 2+2's.
3/5/2010 8:18:41 PM
and the last gen celica was an abomination of a car. great pic
3/5/2010 11:02:57 PM
4/22/2010 12:58:41 PM
$3000 more? thats nothing when you are looking at an already $20k car.
4/22/2010 1:02:00 PM
its a massive engine upgrade....turbo/supercharger
4/22/2010 1:17:09 PM
if the price increase is to cover a turbo then people will pay it.
4/22/2010 1:31:34 PM
The bad news is more how they're "focusing" on an older demographic.Unless this car has close to 300hp or weighs under 2800lbs it will get blown out of the water by almost every coupe on the market. Genesis, Mustang, Camaro all have 300hp for less than $25k.
4/22/2010 2:16:20 PM
bump
7/26/2010 1:33:12 PM
^thanks man.

4/20/2011 3:44:03 PM
Thanks man!Photo of the latest version, unveiled today at the NY Auto Show. It looks like it will be sold in the US as a Scion, which does nothing but piss me off. Also the longer this car takes to come out the more I think it will be overpriced, overweight and underperforming. And then Toyota will say "see, nobody will buy these this is why we don't make coupes".
4/20/2011 3:52:55 PM
I really like it hopefully it will be sold as both. i mean the "86" in its name means dick sold under another brand label. I just hope the subaru gets a turbo...
4/20/2011 5:49:17 PM
ugh subaru motor
4/20/2011 6:29:17 PM
would you rather it be one of the new rattle box econo toyota motors on the market. P.s. the new subaru motor was designed in conjuntion with yota so hopefully more reliable.
4/21/2011 8:13:35 AM
^^^I'm pretty sure Toyota and Subaru will both have turbo versions.Motor Trend apparently did a brief article on it recently and Toyota is still claiming that their target weight is 2700lbs and that their handling target is the Porsche Cayman. If either of these facts are anywhere near the truth I'll be deeply impressed. If it's sold as I Scion I won't care too much...as long as it doesn't have a Scion shitbox low rent interior Here's a photo comparing it's size to the Miata, Genesis Coupe and Mustang.[Edited on April 21, 2011 at 8:39 AM. Reason : d]
4/21/2011 8:36:54 AM
Similar size but longer wheel base then a miata... i like it...
4/21/2011 8:57:08 AM
i really hope this car doesn't suck but i'm guessing it will.
4/21/2011 10:35:36 AM
4/21/2011 10:37:44 AM
and that pertains to this how?? I get it you like high winding motors. The EJ20 can rev pretty well its when you make it 2.5l it starts to not enjoy high RPM.The new 2.0 is rumored to have toyota's direct injection system on it too. Seriously though a low mounted Mid-rear Boxxer 4 setup will be the best balanced car i can think of off the top of my head if executed correctly.
4/21/2011 12:33:30 PM
im just saying toyota leaned on them for every other 'sporty' (ehe) engine design.
4/22/2011 7:54:52 PM
ZOMG! YAAAY A light weight Japanese small sports car again! I'd totally own one if a few years!1 I'm deeply impressed at the target weight and finally another car that's not trying to be larger than all the other cars in the market, the size is PERFECT, as is the weight. GG ToyoBaru <3

^THanks! Are these leaked legit photos? They look like the real deal to me. If so this looks pretty attractive (though I wish the hood was a bit sleeker). If this car weighs 2600 lbs there's a good chance I'll be lining up at the dealership for a test drive.

the center of gravity is rumored to be lower than that of the Cayman.
10/27/2011 10:08:17 AM
I kind of want it. Until the subaru part.
10/27/2011 10:14:14 AM
10/27/2011 11:14:54 AM
lol the new subie engine was developed with toyota... lets hope some yota engineering made it in there. However.. the n/a subies seem to last for ever.. i had a friend who had one with 220k miles on it and it ran pretty well especially for having a blown head gasket.
10/27/2011 11:15:32 AM
don't all subies come standard with at least 1 bad head gasket?lol
10/27/2011 11:28:58 AM
Mine are good.....for now
10/27/2011 11:29:57 AM
10/27/2011 11:50:32 AM
The front end of reminds me of the LFA. FT-86 - The poor man's LFA I like it...
10/27/2011 8:42:38 PM
I was thinking the same thing
10/27/2011 11:42:11 PM
Keep in mind the tacky body moldings (and chrome strips) are Modellista aftermarket items. Hence the leaked pics are from an aftermarket catalog It should look cleaner without them.
10/28/2011 9:34:57 AM
So while Toyota dragged their feet on this concept Hyundai came out with the Genesis coupe and by the time the 86 goes to production it will be tamed enough so you cant tell the difference.
10/28/2011 11:11:09 AM
Joel, what are you talking about? Maybe you're just trolling but the Toyota concept came out in Nov '09 (which is obvious from the thread title). Meanwhile the Genesis coupe went on sale in February of the same year, roughly NINE months earlier. So...you have your timeframe all screwed up. Nevermind the Genesis's weight and size are almost identical to a Ford Mustang. It would appear that the press embargo (for first drives anyway) was lifted today. The reviews say in the fun to drive category it blows the Miata out of the water. Info I've seen thus far from Autocar and CAR magazines:53/47 front rear weight distribution197hp 2.0 boxer 47500 rpm redline1280 kg curb weight (2,816lbs)215/45R17 tires front/rearrear Torsion LSDfully defeatable ESPThis tidbit has me somewhat excited:
