"Didn't the ACC "suck" last year when we got a record 10 teams into bowl games?"

Sad to say, but the # of bowl teams is becoming more and more useless for gauging strength, it's just a simple fact. We love watching that extra game for bragging rights but come on, putting teams in the PapaJohns.com or EagleBank.com or homepages.tripod.com/bowl Bowl isn't something to brag about for anyone.

1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. Big 10
4. Pac 10
5. Big East
6. ACC
7. Mountain West
8. WAC
9. Notre Dame

I think the real strength of the big 10 this year will be Penn State and Michigan State with tOSU and UM tied for 3rd. tOSU defense looked slow.....against Navy.....USC is going to win by 3 TDs

"I love the panicking in this thread, its week 1, lots of bad losses our two bottom feeders both posted embarassing losses. The season is far from over. It will be a long week but people will forget about this week after next weekend.

The Big Ten has Penn State and Ohio State that may be good, at least the sports media will hype those 2 all season. If the Luckeyes beat USC this week they will be gift wrapped another national title game appearance.

The Big 12 has Texas, Oklahoma(maybe) that can be good. Oklahoma State will be this season's Texas Tech.

The Pac-10 is all USC.

The Big East who the hell knows, that conference is worse than ours, but since they are up north they don't get the constant comparisons to the SEC like the ACC does."

Exactly...

^I don't know how you can say the ACC is worst, as a whole, than the Pac 10 and Big East. I would say us and the Big 10 are pretty even this year. With them having a small advantage. After watching O H I O on Saturday I would love to see a GT vs Ohio St match up.

I mean top to bottom. I think the 2 best teams in the ACC are probably GT and VT.

The big 10's only cupcakes this year are Indiana and maybe Illinois, but Illinois could still make a bowl.

Typo on putting the ACC below the Big East. But the Pac 10 is much improved this year. Stanford and Arizona will be good not great teams. Washington is better, oregon state is still decent. Washington State is horrible as usual, but with Cal, UCLA, and the pay as you go USC Trojans make the Pac 10 pretty decent this year.

This dude obviously doesnt do much football research outside of the south. I'll take Michigan and Michigan State over every ACC team besides VT and maybe GT.

As for the big 12, Missouri is going to be good and so is Kansas. Baylor is much much improved and they still have Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State being locks for bowl games.

top 2 are a lock but i think MWC is 3rd. No other top 3 could compete with their top 3 and its not like the bottom of the conference wouldn't put up a fight against the Dukes and Virginias.

We should recruit Yale and Army to the ACC. They are going to be beasts, what with their 31 combined national titles.

I think we need the rest of the conference to stop sucking dick.

Well, so far there doesn't seem to be anyone looking especially good this season. The Big Ten is having it's issues, same with the Big East. The Big 12 doesn't feel like their usual overpowering self in the regular season, and nobody cares about the PAC 10 outside of USC (which hasn't looked fantastic yet either).

Even the SEC's kinda gotten off to a rambling start, although without any embarrassment for themselves like the rest of us.

So it's either just a slow start to the season, or this is the year that CFB parity finally starts killing the bigger conferences and we wind up with 3 or 4 legitimate BCS contenders from the mid-majors.

HA!

We're number 3!
Maybe games against Div 1aafcs opponents don't count? So therefor neither do the losses?

NC State is rated as last in the ACC?

how is our SOS #153 if UNC's SOS is #82??

and how would we be behind UVA?

I just caught this:

Quote :
"top 2 are a lock but i think MWC is 3rd. No other top 3 could compete with their top 3 and its not like the bottom of the conference wouldn't put up a fight against the Dukes and Virginias."

Yeah, I mean, BYU, Utah, and TCU are good, but come the fuck on. We'd slaughter any other MWC team by embarrassing scores, unless there's a dynasty brewing up in Wyoming I don't know about. Duke would prob. beat whoever their #4 is (and I have no idea who that is, just saying).

I might put the Big East up there based on the fact that the distance between 1 and 7 is pretty tight this year. Cincy is BCS worthy again, Pitt is good, Rutgers is good, UConn is pretty solid, WVU is WVU, and USF def. has a shot at the title, but the SEC, Big XII, Big Ten, go ahead of them. Then Big East, Pac 10, and ACC.

In any sort of statistical or objective rating the ACC always seems to be in the top 3.

[Edited on September 17, 2009 at 5:34 PM. Reason : Except 07 when the ACC was terrible, only better than the big 10]

Duke lost to a 1-AA team and had to come back from behind against one of the worst 1-A teams in history (army).

MWC has Colorado State (who already beat a Big 12 team) and Air Force (who nearly beat a Big 10 team). UNLV also BARELY lost to a decent Oregon State team.

they didn't lose to just any 1-AA team they lost to the reigning FCS champion, it's not something to be proud of but it's not THAT embarrassing considering it's Duke and not Michigan

I forgot you get a half a win for barely losing.

The MWC is a damn good conference, easily the best non-automatic qualifier conference but they aren't better than the ACC or the Big East.

All I responded to was the statement that duke would kill the mwc's #4... which I don't think is true... Duke is hideously bad again and those mwc teams aren't terrible... With the scholarship differences there is NO excuse for a bcs conference team to lose to a 1-aa team. Period.

Here is the TRUE strength of conferences thus far for the '09 season:

1. SEC (I hated typing this one)
2. Big 12
3. Pac 10 (California and UCLA are slowly bringing some balance to the conference)
4. ACC
5. Big 10 (Penn State and Ohio State may go toe to toe with Miami/VT, but our conference is wayyyy
deeper this year from top to bottom then the big 10
6. Mountain West
7. Conference USA (Houston and Southern Miss would run circles around ANY Big East squad!)
8. Big East

This weekend was more good news for the ACC...

The great news
FSU - huge freakin' win against BYU
V-Tech - survived against Nebraska, and hey... a win is a win
UNC - hate to say it, but yes the damn tarholes manhandled an ECU team that was supposed to give them trouble
Miami - looking good for the 1st time in, what, 5 years or so?

Decent news
NC State - did what needed to be done... making it two straight blow-outs against FCS teams
Wake - plenty of ?'s, but they've rebounded after the Baylor loss.
Clemson - actually looks pretty good despite having a 1st-time, 1st-year head coach
G-tech - looks good, aside from getting crushed by Miami, and is still a good pick to win the Coastal division

Teams with BAD coaches that are about to be shown the door)
Maryland - The Fridge... dude you can't lose 2 consectutive games to MIDDLE Tennessee... STATE...
Virginia - Alright, seriously, who didn't see the Southern Miss loss coming?

Who knows...
Duke - not like they were expected to compete against KU
BC - Thanks again for your coach. How's your new guy working out? Oh he got fired? Really? So how's the NEW new guy working out? TOB says hi btw

AHAHAHAHAHAH, Southern Miss barely beat UVa and you think they'd run circles around Pitt or WVU or USF? You're so deluded, you must be an ECU fan (likely still trying to convince yourself that ECU will ever leave C-USA).

Not gonna be cocky like that until we actually beat BC again...and it's not like Jag got fired for having a terrible team.
