or maybe he thinks the top joint is oriented wrong?

lots of people think that is the wrong way, but it is loaded correctly.

If that's it, i will explain tonight, i have a field trip I'm about to leave for.

Started bending tube

fucked up, got both sliders bent, and one welded on before realizing it was WAYY into the front tires when turned...... had to go back and re-do that.

Thanks dude. I have to say we are trying a lot harder on this one. When fabbing shit I used to say, well, that is the total opposite of what I was going for, but fuck it, I've invested 2 hours in it, so I'm going to make it work.

Trying to get away from that kinda stuff and do things right, even if it means redoing the work. I am happy with how it is turning out. Should have the bulk of the cage dome tomorrow, unless Hurley decides not to show.

The only thing that differentiates it from a MJ and a XJ now is the "Comanche" badge, lol.

I might shed a tear when a rock rips those badges off. I thought about leaving the cab so preserve a little of the MJ heritage, but I'm just too tall. I was tired of hitting my head on the cage.

Finally worked on it again. I now might own the world's tallest buggy

I made sure the cage would have ~3 inches of clearance over my head while wearing a helmet. My old interior cage hit my head even with no helmet. I am planning to TRY to run the entire ECORS series next year.

Worked on it again today. Looking less like a clown car already. Will be even better when the spare is mounted flat on the back above the "bed rails" to raise the profile of the rear. The spare tire mount will be quickly removable for when I don't want it back there.

i may have missed this part, but did you keep the wheel base the same for the ease of drivetrain parts?

No, we shortened it around 5 inches. This thing has always climbed like a motherfucker, so I didn't wanna make it too short.

I will pretend like that wasn't just padding and you actually wanted to know. there will be some sort of sheetmetal work, but how much is undecided at this time. I have a clean set of doors I might use to skin the sides or i might do lexan or plain sheet metal. not sure though.

Thanks though! Like I said, 95% of them I am happy with. Even that other 5% I'm not worried about failing, just wish they looked better.

I will take a picture of our flap wheel stack. Quite possibly worth more than that vw buggy of yours!

Flap wheels are this dude's friend.

I think I have had some welds get contaminated but bad air inside the tube. At work our welders flood the insides of pipes with nitrogen while welding..... Not too possible to shield the inside of these welds.

Hurley and I got some more cage work done on saturday. Got the roof bars in, and seat tubes. Still need to add in the X behind the seats and some stuff in the rocker area, and around the bed.

And one pic of my newest addition:

Joey working on getting the front 60 cleaned up

Ballistic brackets. these were a lifesaver on the front end.

This is as far as we got with the frontend.

After a few hours of cleaning off the mess the previous owner tried to weld onto this housing, we started on the truss. This one should look a little better than the one i had on the old 44.

The sad state of the Jeep, currently.
