it has wireless sync capability, so I'd imagine if you install the Zune software on the PC with the media, you should be able to do it... now if you're talking about transferring between computers, not sure. it would be awesome to have homegroup support w/out installing the Zune software on all the PC's.Zune Apps confirmed:http://zunited.net/index.php/topic,10392.0.html
8/24/2009 11:20:18 AM
yea the goal would be that as soon as you walk in your house and get in range of your wifi you see all the devices and libraries in the local homegroup. From there you could sync libraries to your device. Plus the ability use the zune to play music/video from one device in the homegroup(including the zune) to another device(like a 360) would be cool. Like a media remote. I was talking to Shrike about it and it would make a pretty decent ad. Like dude is in his car and the zune is playing wirelessly over his car stereo. Then he gets home and he uses the zune to play some music on the speakers connected to his 360 while hes maybe getting some food or something. Then he sits down and pulls up a movie on his tv thats hosted on his comp or his home server. Then the kicker is he gets a phone call on it and the playing video/music mutes while he takes it.

i really don't give a fuck, but good luck breaking the ipod near monopoly
9/15/2009 10:59:44 AM
Then why have you posted twice?
9/15/2009 11:52:17 AM
maybe one day airline flight attendants will be telling you to switch off your zune's and other media devices before take off. lolz
9/15/2009 11:57:34 AM
they do already

WTF is with the negative comments? The Zune is a great product.Seriously, I just don't get how anybody could drink the kool-aid from a product they bought and forever-after constantly deny that any product could possibly be better than the one they own.I enjoy new technology developments that occur because of research or competition, and I'll praise something innovative and use something I like, but I'll be damned before I ignorantly brush off and shun new technology just because it's not made by a certain company. And yes, I'm looking at you: Apple Fanboys.

I guess you haven't read the other posts in this thread. Many posts from people that assume because the Zune was not a huge hit are assuming the Zune HD won't be as well. The Zune HD is nothing like what you've seen on the older Zunes.
9/15/2009 12:43:32 PM
^I have seen the videos, screenshots, and read the same articles as everyone else.
9/15/2009 1:17:05 PM
^Yep. my zune is on order already. I totally avoided the first two generations because, well, they sucked. Having a few minutes of hands on time with the Zune HD sold me.It's definitely worth a trip to BestBuy just to play with one. Side by side with an iPod touch, it's like looking at a Playstation1 next to an Xbox360. Other than the Xbox360, this is the second MS hardware device I am truly impressed by (enough to plunk down my hard earned money for). Can't wait to try out PGR on it!
9/15/2009 1:18:57 PM
Zune 4.0 software is pretty slick so far.
9/15/2009 1:23:19 PM
Guy at work said the Best Buy on Capital Blvd does not have any display for the Zune HD at all today, just the same old small pre-order card display.
9/15/2009 1:24:24 PM
one of the biggest reasons i was trying to abandon iTunes and go for Zune Marketplace was for subscription service and a good mobile device. (since all the ones that worked on rhapsody sucked). But after playing with the first gen zune i was disappointed. It was far better than everything else out there except for the iPod which I already owned.if the Zune HD is as good as you say I may have to pick one up to test it out.
9/15/2009 1:25:57 PM
dell.com sold out on pre-ordersnewegg.com sold out on pre-orders as well.already it has the #2 & #4 spot in between the Apple ipod touch on amazon.comi'd say it's faring better than the 1st & 2nd gen zunes.[Edited on September 15, 2009 at 6:23 PM. Reason : faring]
9/15/2009 6:22:49 PM
i have had completely no interest in zune products before since i'm a pretty avid iphone/ipod touch fan but I must say I am intrigued by this zune HD (mainly the slick interface).............which one of you bitches has one?
9/15/2009 8:00:43 PM
The Zune software is slick as shit.I am thinking about buying a Zune HD (after the furor dies down).
9/15/2009 8:16:34 PM
do the zune hds have bluetoof in them
9/15/2009 8:17:38 PM
well nvm...i will never be buying a zune. Didn't realize its not supported on a Mac and I don't own any PC's nor do i wish to setup my music through parallels/boot camp access
9/15/2009 8:37:02 PM
I didn't know you were a Mac guy]

^I don't see any reason why Microsoft hasn't come out with a Mac client. I can understand not supporting Mac and Windows in the first release or two, even iTunes wasn't supported for Windows in its early years...but come on...4.0 and still no mac os x support?
9/15/2009 9:36:53 PM
Probably lack of demand. The ammount of macs is still nothing compared to the ammount of windows pcs. Combine that with the fact that the mac faithful are less likely to go for a zune just because its made by microsoft. The resulting population of users are probably not cost effective. Same reason they haven't bothered updating windows media player for osx. If the overall market share for the zune increases enough they probably would release an osx client. Especially if they put out a full .net runtime for osx (assuming the zune software is built on .net)
9/15/2009 9:53:46 PM
9/15/2009 10:18:54 PM
Noen, any idea why Zune Originals is still showing just 1 color for the 16GB and no black for the 32GB versions? Any likelihood that it'll change? Seems like ordering from the Zune Originals isn't any extra cost today...don't know if that will change.

9/15/2009 10:52:15 PM
wait now. isn't parallels an INTEGRATED vm?Which would mean that you would only have to use the Zune application itself? Which would, if it were like iTunes for instance, mean that it would be exactly the same experience anyway?Dude, I have a Mac Mini with Parallels on it. If it's already installed, what's the real issue with putting the zune software on it? You never see "Windows" at all, just the application, so where's the argument?
9/15/2009 11:22:08 PM
zune software probably runs better under parallels then itunes runs natively in osx.
9/15/2009 11:28:16 PM
^this isn't a iTunes vs Zune or Windows vs. Mac OS X discussion so leave your failed attempts at trolling for another day.
9/16/2009 12:05:55 AM
i for one applaud Microsoft for trying to get the software right before porting it out. the Zune software as it stands right now is just as good if not better than the 9th iteration of iTunes.and Noen does have a point, 90% vs. 10% or whatever the marketshare difference is, it is substantial, and if you can get it right for 90% of people, they'll love it.you shouldn't be making the argument of making it cross-OS-compliant coming from the Apple camp.
9/16/2009 12:15:42 AM
^who said anything about plans to port it?Don't forget Microsoft tried this whole thing with windows media player...so really to say that they got it right with just 4 versions of Zune is inaccurate. They've also had the advantage of viewing others like iTunes and Rhapsody's successes and failures. They haven't reinvented any wheels here...they're pretty much doing what Apple always does and just take what others have tried and do it better. (nothing wrong with that) but I'd still like to see it supported on Mac OS X. thats my only complaint with it so far.
9/16/2009 12:29:35 AM
iTunes does not work well in windows
9/16/2009 7:55:24 AM
seeing as how that's the first thing i've read and im working backwardswhat is it supposd to do on windows that it does not or do you just mean memory wise?
9/16/2009 9:00:26 AM
while i like the new iTunes UI. It sometimes can be slow to respond (both windows and Mac, always has). I especially hate when I plug in my phone to my computer and then iTunes hangs for a few seconds, sometimes longer, while its trying to detect my phone.I would also like to see the ability of having your library in multiple locations (unless thats already possible) because my laptop's hard drive isn't big enough to house all of my downloaded tv shows. I've got about 500gb of just TV shows and I only have a 300gb HDD.
9/16/2009 9:39:27 AM
boring old arguments ITTsomeone go buy a zune hd and tell me about it
9/16/2009 10:31:37 AM
How about you go buy one and tell us about it.
9/16/2009 10:36:26 AM
one of the reasons itunes is super slow is that it constantly looks for any attached debuggers so it can punt them off in order to prevent reverse engineering.
9/16/2009 10:42:25 AM
Pretty cool demo of the UIhttp://www.crunchgear.com/2009/09/16/zune-hds-ui-the-full-tour/I think I may have to wait till Christmas to get my one
9/16/2009 10:52:28 AM
Yeah, mine is a christmas present from my wife, so I get to wait as well. This is the first year I've actually wanted something in a long time, so I figured I would let her get it for me for Christmas instead of the random crap that I couldnt care less about.
9/16/2009 11:17:20 AM
^ haha, exactly the same story for me and my girlfriend
9/16/2009 11:26:28 AM
^ thirded. Fucking christmas is 3 months away.
9/16/2009 11:30:31 AM
9/16/2009 11:38:13 AM
^Is this on a notebook? How does it effect disconnecting your external drive so long as you don't access the content through iTunes? (I'm assuming nothing happens since it just reads from an XML file)I'm going to try that when i get home. thanks!
