I am thinking about running the half marathon in Raleigh Nov 1. I have basically been running anywhere from around Lake Johnson (on really hot days) to running around the lake to Trailwood back to Avent Ferry and back to my house. I run everywhere. But the training stuff I have done research on says not to run the whole 13.1 miles until the end. I am sure I can run 13.1 miles right now... I dunno.. I may throw in some cross training or something... But I run between 5 and 7 every day during the week except Friday...

Someone said earlier that the Raleigh marathon is not that great.I've heard excellent things about the OBX marathon though. That's in November.

the middle part of the full marathon goes through Umstead and is hilly, which won't help your times at all. OBX is going to be flat. Times from what I read somewhere are like 10mins slower for Raleigh on average. Not a good Boston quali, but at least its right HERE for once.

Stop having a boring life...Man... I ran about 6 miles today... The bottom of my feet start to hurt. Hell I could run all day if I didn't feel like I was running on tacks :-( Basically, when I run/walk and I put weight on a very localized position on my metatarsal, I feel like I just stepped on a one inch long pin that penetrated through the bone. I went to the doctor for this and got an xray... no breaks but she said that fractures are hard to see. Anyone know why the bottom of my feet would hurt?I just bought new shoes and got fitted specifically so my feet wouldn't hurt so bad. Anyone have suggestions or is this something I am going to have to suck up and build tolerance to?

What's the best way to get 3 mile times down? Right now I'm jogging terribly slow for the distance, just a little faster than 12min./mile. Should I try running faster short runs or longer runs for endurance? Or would just running 3 miles over and over again be best? What are some things that you all have (heh, y'all've) tried?

The usual way to increase speed is to put some interval training in your regular running schedule. For starters, get yourself to a track and try a series of 400m repeats at a pace significantly faster than your usual run, with a rest interval between each lap roughly equal to the time it took you to knock out the lap. Most coaches recommend that you keep hydrated and moving as you recover (i.e., don't just stand there and suck in the air, walk around and drink some water if you need it). How many repeats? As many as you can handle.The theory, more or less, is that you get fast by running fast -- the body adapts to the workload, you're forced to get more efficient in your mechanics, etc.There are a lot of different interval workouts you can find online, so check out teh google for some plans on the intertoobz.

I like to alternate distance and speedwork days when I'm training for 5k's.On my distance days, I'd do at least 4-5 miles...sometimes as much as 8-10 miles.Speedwork days would include some mixture of 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m repeats.

Bumping this thread so I'm not flooding the Beachbody thread with running stuff.
